They were usually bloated with Gatorade (aka 'puke juice') when they puked; hence the color. The best pukers are the guys who can puke across the LOS when they are in a stance awaiting the snap. We had a nose guard who would do that two-three times a game in HS. Don't waste it on the sideline.
