RE: [RollTideFan] Last play of UGA/Au Game...

2001-11-11 Thread Rick McMahan

Hey Bill, serious question, and no I'm trying to start anything by asking
this.
What did you think of Tub's going for it on 4th down inside his OWN 20 in
the 2nd quarter trailing by 7 at the time. I couldn't believe he did it. It
worked out for him, but man, the game could have turned to UGA's favor big
time if AU had not of converted.

Tuberville goes for it ALL the time. A lot of those times he fails.

He does give opposing coaches something to think about, that is for sure.
How many teams run the sweep as a standard play out of their punt
formation? Opposing teams have to prepare for that stuff.

Long.story.short: I hate it when it fails, but I understand why he does
it so often. The specific time you were thinking about I was saying
'GO!'. It was only three inches AU needed, and Duval had just shanked
two punts in a row.

Second guessing those kind of decisions is a big part of the fun.

A lot of Bama folks have second guessed Bama's fake FG try in yesterday's
first half too. Bottom line, if Thomas had caught the pitch cleanly, it was
a TD. It looked like he sorta short armed it by taking his eye off the ball
for a split second and just fumbled off his finger tips. I thought it was a
good call, just hated to see it botched.

That's one thing that I've noticed this year - gutsy calls that have been
botched. The difference is that this coaching staff does have the guts to
make the calls, whereas DuBose's staff claimed that everything was too
complicated, and tried to simplify it to the point of it being predictable.
Now, we've got to get to where we can execute these kind of plays.
