I have the same problem with the username

zieglerk

I recreated the account, but my worksheets did not show up again.
Still, when looking at the list of published worksheets I recognize
several of them, now filed as

Owner: pub
Last edited: *** days ago by zieglerk

If there is any way, I can help to recover the worksheets -- actually
the links between worksheets and accounts -- I would be happy to try.

Cheers,

But as long as one is planning now, maybe it would be worth decoupling
'Publish' in this way and then having a separate 'Live Published'
category. Or something. I agree that it's silly that one can't view
published worksheets just because someone is hogging a server.

cool thing is to publish @interacts. This means, there are cells that are
read only, but have an active Sage instance behind them. Then, your approach
wouldn't work that way.

Re: [sage-support] Re: sagenb.org server(s)

2011-02-08 Thread Thomas Scofield

I appreciate the efforts that are under way to make sagenb.org more usable en
masse. I'll patiently wait for the improvements to take effect. In my
ignorance, let me pose a related question. It seems to me the published
notebooks are far different entities than those that are "active". Am I
correct in this? Are they not essentially static content? Yet, I have no
easier time browsing through the published ones, even though I need not be
logged in to view them, than I have accessing and running my own. Could these
two areas be decoupled? If it were easy to do, I think it would be worth it.

Not yet (though I suppose someone with root access might be able to
move your login credentials with a lot of effort...), but you should
be able to just download all Sage worksheets you care about at once,
and then upload them at once. At least with the newest few versions
of Sage, use "Download all Active". Of course, that will download ALL
in the 'active' list! You should be able to upload this file in the
dialog for uploading, even though it won't be a .sws file.

Is this not a problem for others, just me doing something wrong? If
so, can someone help me diagnose the problem? If it's a consistent
problem that everyone else has become so accustomed to that we just
don't speak of it anymore, then how can it be addressed? I'd suggest

I too have noticed sagenb.org being slow or down quite a bit recently.
My personal work-around has been to use demo.sagenb.org or our school
Sage server for my classes. We have a Dell PowerEdge 2900 server (i.e.,
probably 5-6 years old) with 16 gig of RAM, and I have noticed no
problems serving my classes (3 classes, probably 80 students total). We
probably don't need that much RAM to serve just these students, but we
also use the server for research work. You can see instructions from
our setup here: http://wiki.sagemath.org/SageServer.

My guess is that about 50-60 simultaneous users (not accounts, but
simultaneous users) is enough to cause a severe slowdown to sagenb.org.
That's a guess, though; I'm not sure what the actual number is.

As for the future:

In January, we held a Sage conference in which many people worked on
designing a much more scalable notebook. I am working with a group of
students on the first steps of this rewrite.

There are other people also working on this rewrite or other projects
which restructure the notebook and make it more scalable. There is
funding from an NSF grant to work on making the notebook more scalable,
so it will get done (i.e., there's funding and committed developer
time). One project (the rewrite to use flask) is at the testing stage,
so hopefully we will see it go into Sage soon.

Thanks,

Jason

Here's a followup question, which might be considered a firefox

At work I used firefox. The form filling for the log in page for

erase it and put in victorsmiller (all lower case), as soon as I hit
the log in button, it reverts back to VictorSMiller, so I can't log
into the other account. Any suggestions as to how to deal with this?

Thanks William, I input demo.sagenb.org into my google search box and

I just logged in and computed 2+3. However, I did get two indicators
that it was slow today (I have a monitor script). Also, sage is
getting some discussion on slashdot right now.

I also just logged in and found that the number of sagenb.org accounts
went up from about 4000 (last time I checked 1-2 weeks go) to 7381
right now.

It looks like 249 accounts were created today, maybe.

So it's getting hammered. It's just a dual core virtual machine.

Here's a hint -- I made some extra "secret" notebook servers you can
use: demo.sagenb.org, demo2.sagenb.org. That might be helpful.

Also, I'm actively working on a major rewrite to improve robustness
and scalability a *lot*.
