Free Agent's okay for newsgroups (still haven't found a windows newsreader I
actually like greatly, but it'll do). Pegasus is very nice for email, though,
and free. (http://www.pmail.gen.nz/)

Yes it doesn't receive emails. Its slightly restricted being the free
version. Its a full featured newsgroup package and you can send emails
from it but not receive. Of course cough up for the full package and
you'll get that too plus killfile options. I know your probably thinking
'can't receive emails, what a pile of rubbish' but check it out anyway
if you deal with newsgroups you won't regret it.

I'm not totaly sure that I get your drift.

Are you saying that Forte's is good at sending but not at receiving.

Well for newsgroups and sending emails I recommend Forte's Free Agent. A
brilliant bit of software and free!!

However it doesn't receive emails but netscape is fine for that anyway
its just newsgroups its not so good at. Its what I use anyway.

Thanks Martin.

I found Navigator on a CD. Tried it.
Also downloaded Acorn E-mail.

Have now reapraised my views on Outlook Express.

Thanks for the reply James.

I tried a couple of different programs.

Netscape Navigator and Acorn E-mail.

Both Lack features that Im using in Outlook Express. Ditched Navigator via
the control panel. Guess what... Outlook wouldn't start. Curses.!!

Re-installed Outlook Express so all is well.

Acorn E-mail is OK for what it is but Outlook is better. It would be I
suppose.

Acorn comes as a zip file of 1.44 Mb,

I got Netscape to read the mail using this. I used settings like:
Mail Server: server.company.com
User Name: domain/fml/FirstL
(where f, m & l mean first, middle and last initials)

I had a little trouble finding the user name. When I looked up the
setting in Outlook mail, it said "First Last" (with a space between),
but when I used that in Netscape:
User Name: domain/fml/First Last
it didn't like it. I discovered that if I typed "FirstL" into the
Outlook mail settings, it expanded it to "First Last", and also "FirstL"
worked in Netscape. I assume that "FirstL" is the actual username, and
"First Last" is a description. This might require a bit of
experimentation.

This worked fine for a while, but then the administrator changed
something on the server. Now I have to enter a username and password to
send mail. Also I have recently discovered that attachments do not seem
to work.

I would be interested to hear how you do with this.

Well, *any* ISP that can use Outlook Express will be able to use *any*
other email program The only reason you've probably got Outlook
Express is that thats what they give you If you want help setting
anything up lemme know & I'll lend a hand..

Does anyone know of a better interface than Outlook Express and if so how do
I interface it to my current ISP.

Or does anyone know of a free ISP that uses something different from Outlook
Express.
