[Samba] Connection Problems from Windows 2000 Server to a SAMBA Share
Dear All, I am experiencing a problem accessing a SAMBA share from a Windows 2000 SP4 server. We have a Service on the Windows 2000 Server, which processes a number of database queries and prepares a file. It then copies this file to a SAMBA share using the UNC convention (\\servername\foldername\filename). The user who runs this service belongs to a domain - domain1 while the SAMBA share on the unix machine is in a different domain. However the domain1\username has full access rights to the SAMBA shares. For some unknown reason, on some days the jobs work fine and the files are copied while on some other days every single job to copy the files fails. We have checked the SAMBA setup and all is OK. Are there any known problems which cause this connection/disconection problem ? Please help Cheers Ranga - Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! [Samba] Samba3+samba-vscan+clamav = A big headache.
I just installed samba3+samba-vscan via ports on a FreeBSD 4.x system. Samba is running just fine and thanks to the help of webmin it was easily configured. Today I finally was able to get windows shares to be mounted on my FreeBSD server. So naturally I want to run av scans on it. I set it up to mount the entire C drive and to scan it using clamav which is also installed from ports. I recompiled Samba3 with support for VFS using the arguement make WITH_VFS=yes install clean which I'm not sure if worked or not but seems to have not errored and comipiled fine. Then I setup my smb.conf with the following [global] vfs object = /usr/local/lib/samba/vscan-clamav.so vfs options = config-file = /usr/local/etc/samba-vscan/vscan-clamav.conf Then I restarted Samba and obtained the following errors in my messages console... Plus centralizing helps with change > management in the event you have to move directories, and > even creating users remotely. > Thanks for the reply. In hindsight maybe I should not have asked this question on the list. I have every intention of creating a domain primarily to achieve single sign on. But computer accounts and domain logons are not needed to take advantage of single sign on. The question I was really asking was under Samba what other *important* benefits could I also take advantage of if I joined each PC to the domain and used domain logons for the users. In this regard here's what I see: 1 - Any user can log on from any PC. 2 - Computer/Group/User policies. 3 - Roaming profiles. These capabilites are likely of limited value for *my* environment - lots of professionals who have their own PCs (not shared), and desire and can handle restriction free use of the PCs. Besides that, as a senior manager at the company I can be *very* persuasive in getting users to treat their PC's responsibly. Re: [Samba] Windows/Linux directory share with differnt security
Hi, samba will first honor the linux permissions to any file or folder, so first make clear that the wanted permission are able to your native nix systems. If this is ok you can take samba to control permissions to this share for win clients like i e. readlist = @readers writelist = @writers, Admin read the samba doku about this, there is also the chance to make use of group mapping and acl , which might be more complicated to setup reading man smb.conf will give you all anwers you need Regards Haim Kalderon schrieb: Hello group, I have Windows 2000 workstations and Linux 9 that runs applications and file servers. I have spent some time reading the Samba3 Howto and Samba3 By Example books. These are excellent books which have answered most of my configuration questions. With some help I have setup and have running LDAP/PDC and LDAP/BDC test boxes. I have had difficulty understanding the value of some of the tools available such as computer accounts (domain logons) and kerberos for a small network such as mine (75 users on Netware). I figure that I should not implement anything for which I can not plainly understand the benefit and explain the benefit to my fellow managers at the small company that I work. Again, no misuse of the list was intended. I am only trying to determine the best way to implement Samba. -- To unsubscribe from this list go to the following URL and read the instructions: http://lists.samba.org/mailman/listinfo/samba
