[Samba] Browse list only shows Samba server

2006-08-10 Thread Steven De Boeck

Hi all,

I'm having a small problem with browsing. I've got a network full of
Windows (2000 and XP) machines and I've installed a Samba server in it.
The server is configured to be Domain Master Browser (DMB), Local Master
Browser (LMB) and WINS server for a workgroup. The Win machines are
configured to use the WINS server.
Name resolution works perfectly, but browsing doesn't. When I try to
browse the workgroup, only the Samba server itself shows up in the
browse list. None of the Win hosts are there. I've checked the
browse.dat file in /var/cache/samba, and it only contains the Samba
server and the workgroup.

More info (smb.conf, log.nmbd, browse.dat) below.

Any ideas ? Thanks in advance,

Steven

connected to network?

By default, Windows supports up to 10 (I think) cached logons.
That means if you user abc logs on while the domain controller
IS available, then they can log on later when the domain
controller is NOT available, assuming there haven't been 10
people who have logged on since then.

So, with a little planning (always be sure to logon before you
disconnect, so that your identity is in the cache), you can
use only the network user accounts without having to create
separate local accounts. That makes things a lot cleaner and
simpler, I think.

hello

configuration:

windows XP client
linux/samba dfs link to a share on a Netapp box.

from the XP client you can't see the tab Previous Versions if you
rightclick on a file. You can see this tab if you go directly to the
Netapp share or if you use a dfs link on a Windows 2003 Server.

Netapp is a Shadow Copy Services Provider but apparently the linux

[Samba] Integration Samba with Active Directory

2006-08-10 Thread Guilherme Veloso Neves Oliveira
 Dear friends,

my english is more less, but my intention is very good!!!

I have a problem with integration samba with Active Directory (M$).

In my LAN exist 16 domains (ex. A, B, C, D, etc...etc...). They All domains
possess trusted relations it enters them.

When a insert my workstation in domain A (net ads join ), all function
perfect. Example:

 wbinfo -m return a list the domain trusted;
 wbinfo -D domain for each one the list return SID and informations perfect;
 wbinfo -n domain\\user return SID for user no problems;

But when I insert this same workstation in other domain, for example B, only
some resources function. Example:

wbinfo -D domain for each one the list (wbinfo -m) return SID and
informations perfect only for some (B and C). The others domains (A, D,
etc...etc...) not return me information;

and I that found interesting is that the command wbinfo -n domain\\user
return SID for any user of any domains (A, B, C, D, etcetc...) of any
situation no problems.

Sorry for looking for help in this list, but the microsoft list don't help me.

Why this What modify in configuration the AD(M$)???

I suspect the DNS, but still don't resolve this problem.

[Samba] Extremely slow and consume a lot of cpu when low disk space

2006-08-10 Thread list
Extremely slow and consume a lot of cpu when low disk space

HI. I got a very strange problem, that Im soon going to go insane over.

First. This is my setup.

I got a fileserver with 6 hardrvies in it. All 300GB.
And every drives is shared with samba.

And the performance from samba is okey. 20-30MB/s over normal PCI gigalan

System drive and one of the data drives are SATA , the rest is PATA.
And reiserfs is run on all of them.

The system is running on Fedora Core 5 - 64bit and using prebuild samba
3.0.23a-1.fc5.1
With kernel 2.6.17-1.2139-FC5 . So Im not running any own builds on this
machine.

Problem is that I got extremely low transfer speed when writing to one of
the samba shares ( like less then 50k/s ) and smbd consumed 95% of all
cpu.

And after trying a lot of think I have found this.

When I have less then 21GB free ( drive is 300GB ) samba starts to behave
strange when writing to the SATA drive.
none of the PATA drives is acting strange if they gets full. And if I copy
stuff from other local drive to the SATA drive, Everything is fine. So is
just when data is written by samba. Writing to the drive via NFS work
fine.
And everything works fine until the drive reaches 94% full. Then it start
to be extremely slow.

I tried setting back samba config to default options, but nothing helps.
I tried turning off and killing everything else running on the machine.
But no luck.

This happens for both Windows and Linux clients.

ANY help I can receive with this is very much appreciated.

-Matt

Not all the symptoms you describe match, but if you are moving a machine

the
results can be very strange. Anyway, I think you're seeing bug 3661:

If you have Win9x or OS/2 systems with files samba needs to access,
you'll most likely want to stick with samba 2 client and smbfs just a
little bit longer. smbfs support has just been dropped from the newest
2.6 kernels, and cifs lanman support to replace it isn't done baking
yet. If you're still on a 2.4 kernel maybe this isn't even an issue.
Server rpms from ftp://ftp.sernet.de/pub/samba/suse90-i386/ may be OK.

[Samba] winbind: group name doesn't map to a SID, but gid does

2006-08-10 Thread Jonathan C. Detert
I'm using winbind v3.0.22 on Debian Linux as a source for nss info.
I have a group that was once known by winbind, but is no more:

# ls -ld ./
drwxrws--- 10 root $MND000-TT227MV5K24I 4096 2006-05-10 15:41 ./

It must have been known, as I was the one who chgrp'ed the dir
originally.

I know what the group name is supposed to be. When I look it up in
MsAD UsersNGroups, I see it has unix attribute gid = 29922.

wbinfo -G 29922 produces the sid.

wbinfo -s thesid produces:
the group's RID shown above, with domain name prefixed, and 2
suffixed.

wbinfo -n posixgroupname produces:
Could not lookup name posixgroupname

Pertinent smb.conf entries:

winbind enum groups = yes
winbind enum users = yes
winbind nested groups = yes
winbind separator = +
winbind use default domain = yes
winbind nss info = sfu
idmap gid = 500-45000
idmap uid = 500-45000
idmap backend = ad

Any idea what is wrong? I restarted winbind, but that didn't help. I
stopped winbind, removed the winbindd_idmap.tdb, and then restarted
winbind, but the groupname is still not found.

[Samba] Users owner name and group stopping other users editing files and or creating directories

2006-08-10 Thread Brent Clark

Hey all

I seem to have a problem whereby a specfic user writes and creates in one of
servers shares and on doing so. The user and group is owned by that user.

Normally the default owner group is nobody.nogroup

This is an example of one of my shares.

security = share

[mydocs]
   comment = Company docs
   path = /spare1/mydocs
   guest ok = yes
   writable = yes

So basically this user creates a directory or a file on the share, then my
other users can not ammend or edit the files / directories.
I have a basic setup whereby any and all my users must / should be able to add
/ edit on the shares etc.

Im sure its just a setting on this users machine, but I cant possible think of
what could be causing this.

If anyone could assit, I would be most greatful.

[Samba] Default Domain Computers group mapping with samba 3

2006-08-10 Thread Gianluca Cecchi

Hello all,
I'm using samba 3 as a pdc on CentOS 3.7 (package is
samba-3.0.9-1.3E.7 based on 3.0.9 + rh patches)
I would like to recevive some clarification about predefined Domain
Computers group in Samba 3, as I didn't find complete information
about this in various documents.
It is stated as a well known but not essential entity inside samba
documentation.

Is it correct to say that in samba when I create a machine account I
have to create a corresponding user in Linux with the final $ into the
name, and so when this machine joins the domain, is automatically seen
as inside the Domain Computers group, or not?
It doesn't seem so, as the group mapping is not by default in place.

I found links regarding remote management for joining domains, using
the add machine script entry in smb.conf.
Typical examples are with useradd or adduser utilities. I found that
one suitable could be for example:
add machine script = /usr/sbin/adduser -n -M -g machines -c Machine
-d /dev/null -s /bin/false %u

And this implies that I have pre-created a Linux group named
machines, but this group seems to not have any kind of importance,
or not?

Is it so formally correct to map the Linux machines group to the
Domain Computers group?
If I write
net groupmap modify ntgroup=Domain Computers unixgroup=machines type=d
I get the error
NT Group Domain Computers doesn't exist in mapping DB
while if I write
net groupmap add ntgroup=Domain Computers unixgroup=machines rid=515 type=d
I get
Successully added group Domain Computers to the mapping db
and then
net groupmap list
gives:
System Operators (S-1-5-32-549) - -1

Pavan,

I had this exact same problem with my Fedora Core 5. It's actually a
well
documented problem with the way Fedora Core 5 uses a system known as
SELinux,
which is on by default.

Try issuing the command 'setenforce 0' and see if that makes a
difference.

Quoting Pavan [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

 Hi,
SNIP

Hi,

I have samba PDC running successfully on my server with 3
physical volumes running Fedora Core 5.

Physical Volume 1 - OS installation
Physical Volume 2 - All Company file shares
Physical Volume 3 - Backup of files.

I am facing a weird problem or may be somewhat unique to samba or
Fedora, that I cannot access shares that are mounted and shared by
samba from the client machines from the Physical volumes 2 3. I just
receive an error as Network Path cannot be found including for the
samba domain administrator i.e. root. All users can access the shares
directly on the server.

Can anyone help me to overcome this problem??

Thanks in advance, I really spent more than 4hrs troubleshooting this.

Pavan.

RE: [Samba] Help: smbd nmbd normal states

2006-08-10 Thread John Mason
Have you checked the output of testparm? Run it and see if it doesn't
like some configuration settings. I had very similar results when I had
some misspelled configuration settings.

And if that doesn't work, remove any and all log files, then add
loglevel = 10 to your smb.conf, then start the server, wait a bit, then
post the log files so we can help you debug the problem.

I have just installed Fedora Core 5 with the Samba server. However only
the
nmbd daemon is running. I thought both smbd and nmbd should be running.
On trying to start smbd with:
/sbin/service smb start
the result is starting smbd [FAILED]
Stopping smbd of course has no effect, and starting or restarting nmbd
works
just fine.

I'm stumped! I turned SELinux and the firewall off. I stopped sendmail.
I
configured a share, and set up a user for it. I can't think of what else
might be a problem. This worked before on a previous life of the system
under FC4.

[Samba] RPM reporting running two versions of Samba at the same time

2006-08-10 Thread Doug Coats

I was trying to work through a PDC problem that I was having with
3.0.23a noted in bug 3964. I didn't know how to apply the offered
patch and my distro, FC4, has not offered an update yet to 3.0.23b so
I thought that I would revert to a previous version that is not
affected by this bug.

I forced an install of 3.0.23 samba, common, and client and now rpm
reports that I have two versions of Samba running at the same time.
Samba seems to be running, shares are available and access is
restricted properly. I havn't dared try to join the domain until I
figure out what is really going on on my system. When I inquire of
rpm what is installed this is what I get.

# rpm -q samba
samba-3.0.23a-1.fc4.1
samba-3.0.23-1.fc4

I have run rpm --rebuilddb and I get the same result.

Any insight or explaination is greatly appreciated.

Thanks All!

[Samba] group changes?

2006-08-10 Thread Adam Williams
I have several groups in /etc/groups on my samba server. I upgraded to
samba 3.0.23b and then users couldn't connect to any shares they were
groups on in /etc/groups (shares used valid users = @groupname) but
could connect to shares where valid users = their_username. I did some
reading and saw the group mapping change at
http://us5.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/ChangeNotes.html#id2550114

And then I did net groupmap add unixgroup=mygroups and that worked

Can I ask, why the change, and why do I have to execute that command for
each group instead of samba just getting who's in the group from /etc/group?

RE: [Samba] RPM reporting running two versions of Samba at the same time

2006-08-10 Thread Paul Gienger
I forced an install of 3.0.23 samba, common, and client and now rpm

Here is your first problem, and let this be a lesson to you, forcing is only
recommended in very few cases. The only one that comes to mind is when
doing a system upgrade via yum you will generally have to force something in
as step 1 like yum or RPM itself, I can't remember which. You're probably
going to have to --force some more stuff to fix it now.

reports that I have two versions of Samba running at the same time.
Samba seems to be running, shares are available and access is
restricted properly. I havn't dared try to join the domain until I
figure out what is really going on on my system. When I inquire of
rpm what is installed this is what I get.

 # rpm -q samba
 samba-3.0.23a-1.fc4.1
 samba-3.0.23-1.fc4
This is not the same as 'running'. You have really made a mess of your
system though. Most likely you overwrote every file that had to do with
samba .23a with the .23 files and that is what is truly 'running'. Since
the versions are so close very few files are probably still from 23a.

Any insight or explaination is greatly appreciated.
What I would suggest to you now is to remove any samba packages, you'll
probably have to use --force since you'll have dependencies flying all over
the place, and then reinstall your distribution files. Get your system up
and running to where you had it before. Once you're there, get the newest
version from the samba site and follow the instructions on building the
newest rev. It's not terribly hard, and I'm sure many on this list are
quite aware of every little step along the way.

[Samba] Re: winbind nsswitch problem

2006-08-10 Thread Ben Lentz
FYI... downgrading to samba 3.0.21b fixed the problem, upgrading again
to 3.0.23a makes it break, and downgrading one last time to 3.0.21b
fixes it.

Not sure if it's a problem with samba, or if Fedora's package is
borked... I'm kinda assuming that the answer from the list is going to
be build 3.0.23b from source and call us in the morning. Perhaps I'll
give that a try and report my results back here.

role in an Active Directory domain (security ads). My problem is that,
although wbinfo -u and -g work great and can pull user and group lists
respectively from AD, getent passwd and getent group do not. I've
configured passwd: files winbind and group: files winbind in
nsswitch.conf, and have configured idmap uid = 1-2 and idmap
gid = 1-2 in the smb.conf file. testparm is clean, as is net
ads testjoin. smbd and nmbd are running.

Running winbindd -i -d 10 and trying a getent passwd results in a
tiny amount of output from winbindd:

accepted socket 16
process_request: request fn INTERFACE_VERSION
[0]: request interface version
process_request: request fn WINBINDD_PRIV_PIPE_DIR
[0]: request location of privileged pipe
accepted socket 17
process_request: request fn SETPWENT
[0]: setpwent
process_request: request fn ENDPWENT
[0]: endpwent

... but no actual passwd data comes through.

I got this working several years ago with samba 3.0.10 on Fedora Core
1. What on earth could I be doing wrong?

Thanks in advance for any hints...

Adam,

Can I ask, why the change, and why do I have to
execute that command for each group instead
of samba just getting who's in the group from
 /etc/group?

This doesn't make sense to me but there's not enough
information to comment. Are you by chance using user
private groups ?

I have a local group called users, and so the manual

Other shares using @unix-groupname fail as well.

Please send me a level 10 debug log from smbd of the

[Samba] 3.0.20 - 3.0.23 SID/group error?? Won't connect.

Gerry, all:

HELP! On mandriva, I compiled samba from source and got it running, but

I think this relates to the group/SID changes discussed in the release
notes. However, I'm not smart enough to figure it out. The tarball compiled
and installed fine. It appears to run fine, it just wont take the

What should I do/check/read to find out how to get 3.0.23 to allow my

This is obviously not a viable solution for users.

You can set load printers = no and have the user enter
the UNC path in Start - Run to connect to the
printer.

Also if someone has the time to explain how I can take
the printer admin line out, since it gives a
deprecation error. I know I can get rid of the
printer admin parameter with a permission assigned to an AD group (or should
it be a group defined on the Samba server?) called the
 SePrinterOperatorprivilege, right?

Yup. net rpc grant 'DOMAIN\Domain Admins' SePrintOperatorPrivilege

[Samba] winbind nsswitch problem

2006-08-10 Thread Ben Lentz

Greetings list,
I'm using samba 3.0.23a on a Fedora Core 5 system in a member server
role in an Active Directory domain (security ads). My problem is that,
although wbinfo -u and -g work great and can pull user and group lists

Running winbindd -i -d 10 and trying a getent passwd results in a tiny
amount of output from winbindd:

accepted socket 16

process_request: request fn WINBINDD_PRIV_PIPE_DIR

... but no actual passwd data comes through.

[Samba] RE: Help: smbd nmbd normal states

2006-08-10 Thread LouArnold

Have you checked the output of testparm? Run it and see if it doesn't
like some configuration settings. I had very similar results when I had
some misspelled configuration settings.

And if that doesn't work, remove any and all log files, then add
loglevel = 10 to your smb.conf, then start the server, wait a bit, then
post the log files so we can help you debug the problem.
/qote
I tried testparm. It says the conf file is OK. I am following a diagnostic
procedure at a URL that I can't recall at this time, but which I will find.
In that procedure, things stopped at smbclient -L servername. Th
response was connection refused which indicates that the Samba server isn't
running.
I tried starting it via the AdminServices section of the Gnome admin tool.
Starting smb causes the GUI to hang in that page - ie it never completes.
The command /sbin/service smb start cause the message [FAIL] for smbd, but
not for nmbd.
Also ps -ea|grep smbd gives nothing.

I will get rid of the log file, and edit the samb.conf file for loglevel=10.
See you then.

[Samba] Winbind/LDAP and Samba

2006-08-10 Thread Anni Evanoff
Hello~

Can I configure NSS on Samba to use both LDAP and winbind together or does
it have to be one or the other? We use LDAP in our unix environment but I
need winbind to manage objects/accounts through active directory on my Samba
member server (non-PDC), or do i? I am afraid to eliminate LDAP on this
Samba server because it may break its identity resolution with the current
config we have on this network and I may not be able to access it. Turning
on the winbind service with defaults resolved SIDs in the ACL dialogs in
Windows so I know I am going to need it.

[Samba] RE: Help: smbd nmbd normal states

2006-08-10 Thread LouArnold

OK, I set the lohlevel to 10 in the smb.conf file. Then I deleted current log
files for smbd and nmbd. I ran both and then I checked the smbd log file.
The only sense of an error message is at the very end of the file:
smbd: symbol lookup error: smbd: undefined symbol: cupsLangDefault
This is unclear and to me only means that I should remove and re-install the
Samba service.
Help is very welcome here.

It's a bug in Fedora. you'll have to take it up with them.
The Samba rpm was compiled against cups 1.1 but yum upgrade
installed cups 1.2 which is not binary compatible.

[Samba] XP clients disconnected during trasnfer of larger files to the samba server

2006-08-10 Thread Derrick MacPherson
i'm having an issue when transferring large files to the samba servers

transfer i get a network share no longer exists error and the transfer
fails. I can pull down from the server fine with no issues. The XP

[Samba] Please Make 3.0.23a SuSE .rpms available

Can you repost the 3.0.23a rpms for SuSE 10. I am dead in the water
after installing 3.0.23b. I would like to reload 3.0.23a to get things back
to normal. If anybody else has a link I would use, I'd be very thankful.

[Samba] Multiple Logon Scripts

2006-08-10 Thread Pavan
Hi All,

I am wondering if multiple logon scripts can be run using samba as
PDC. I need to run a logon script for all users and some logon scripts
for specific users + the common script,

Can I specify multiple logon script files in smb.conf

 Logon script = login.bat, %U.bat ???

Thanks,
Pavan.

PLEASE DISREGARD. I compiled 3.0.23a from source and it is working fine
again!! There is definately a 3.0.23b standalone server sid/group problem.

 david,

HELP! On mandriva, I compiled samba from source
and got it running, but I cannot connect from windows.
(see my post from earlier [Samba] Compiling and
  Configuring Samba for Mandrival)

  [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~ smbclient //bonza/office

  Domain=[RB_LAW] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.0.23b]
  tree connect failed: NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED
 ...
I have attached a level 10 debug if that will help.
  This is a standalone server.

Attachments get stripped from the list. I need
your smb.conf, a level 10 debug log from smbd,
and output from the following tow commands

 * pdbedit -L -w | cut -d: -f1
 * net groupmap list | cut -d\( -f1

Jerry,

There is definately something amiss with 3.0.23b. After I installed the
3.0.23b binaries on SuSE 10 at home, and I could not connect to any share
except my home share. (I had deleted the 3.0.23a binaries before the 3.0.23b
install -- never again...) This was the same problem I saw with 3.0.23b on
mandriva 2005le at work -- that initially started this thread. Anyway, in a
panic, I simple got the 3.0.23a tarball and compiled it as a test on the
SuSE 10 box to see if the problem was really the 3.0.23b release. It was!
This is a problem unique to 3.0.23b. 3.0.23a compiled and installed without
a hitch. Now all my shares are accessable again! I didn't even have to
reboot the windows clients, they just started connecting and playing nicely
with samba again.

I've already sent you my level 10 debug, smb.conf and the output you
requested above from my SuSE 10 box. Let me know if I can send you anything
else to help with this problem. If you need the mandriva info, just let me
know. I can just hear the screams going out across the corporate world as
23b gets installed -- at least on standalone servers.

Both my mandriva and suse systems are presently such that I can install
23b with a simple 'make install' and get back to a working config with 'make
revert' so let me know if you want me to send anything else.

I'm not smart enough to know what the difference between 23a and 23b is
or why it is causing a problem, but I can confirm the problem. I have
installed 23a from rpm and compiled it by hand and it works great. I have
installed 23b from rpm and compiled it by hand and I can only connect to my
home share -- all other shares fail miserably.

Good luck, just put another pot of coffee on. Don't worry, I'm
sure it's just a stray comma, semicolon, typo or typecast somewhere in the
middle of 764,532 lines of source..

Wait, stop!

While all of the following information is correct, I am having problems
with 3.0.23b. 3.0.23a works just fine. Before installing 3.0.23b, see the
thread [Samba] 3.0.20 - 3.0.23 SID/group error?? Won't connect.

From: David Rankin [EMAIL PROTECTED]
 Mates,

Since nobody is building binaries for mandriva, I thought I would
share
a quick cheat sheet for those who want to compile from source to update
10.2
from 3.20 to 3.23. Here goes:

1.Download samba-3.0.23b.tar.gz to your local machine (a given...)

 2.Unzip it: tar xzvf samba-3.0.23b.tar.gz

3.Change to the source directory: cd samba-3.0.23b/source/

4.Make sure you are root: su root (enter root password)

 5.run: ./autogen.sh
see

6.Now you need to configure the makefile. This is simple, the only
pain
in the butt is making sure you have the right configure parameters for
Mandriva to keep the various pieces of samba from being scattered all over
 your disto. (i.e. smb.conf in /usr/lib ???)

simply run:

./configure --prefix=/usr --infodir=/usr/share --mandir=/usr/share --with-co
 nfigdir=/etc/samba

and the pieces will get placed in the right places.

 7.run: make

 8.run: make install
(this completes the install)

 9.now restart samba: /etc/rc.d/init.d/smb restart

 10. You should be up and running with the new samba release! If samba
fails
to start and you are in a panic, simply issue:

 make revert

 and then

 /etc/rc.d/init.d/smb restart

and your old version of samba will be restored! (it really works)

That's it, hope it helps some other poor Mandrival user. If I missed a
step, it is only because it is late.

Re: [Samba] Multiple Logon Scripts

2006-08-10 Thread Guido Lorenzutti

logon script = netlogon.%U.bat
would be OK.

But you also need:
is to create onthefly netlogons.
In the [netlogon] share use a preexec =
/var/lib/samba/netlogon/make_netlogon.sh %U
This way, make_netlogon.sh is a script that check your username and
makes the netlogon.username.bat that you need.

Enjoy :)

  This is a standalone server.

Attachments get stripped from the list. I need
your smb.conf, a level 10 debug log from smbd,
and output from the following tow commands

 * pdbedit -L -w | cut -d: -f1
 * net groupmap list | cut -d\( -f1

Jerry,

I went back and compiled 23a from source on my Mandriva 2005le box at
work. I have now confirmed on the Mandriva box that 23a works great!, 23b
give me the problems described above.

[Samba] Debian 3.0.23b tbdsam guest panic

2006-08-10 Thread Lewis Shobbrook
Hi All,

Just upgraded a test box to 3.0.23b and discovered some changes that cause a
panic.

I had an smb.conf with passdb backend = tbdsam guest
The guest bit now causes panic action.
log.smbd complains ... No builtin nor plugin backend for tdbsam guest found

Either the build options have changed or the guest operative has issues.

Works OK without guest, but it's been necessary to use it in the past on
occasions.

Cheers,

Lewis

guest was never meant to be used as an explicit backend, hence
the deliberate panic. Just remove it.

Jeremy.

Please read the release notes and have the debian folks
fix their default configs. guest was never considered to
be a real passdb name. It was builtin to smbd and added
internally.

it in the past on occasions.

No. It was never needed since smbd added it for
you automatically.

svn commit: samba r17484 - in branches/SAMBA_4_0/source/torture/libnet: .

2006-08-10 Thread mimir
Author: mimir
Date: 2006-08-10 20:42:07 + (Thu, 10 Aug 2006)
New Revision: 17484

WebSVN:
http://websvn.samba.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi?view=revroot=sambarev=17484

Log:
Make last version of the function generating random set of changes
more fair to each of the fields (ie. don't create new code at midnight
after a long day...).

This will be useful for testing multiple changes at once and verifying
correctness. A few testing runs already demostrated some missing pieces.
