[Samba] smbclient timeout?
Hi, i can see some systems with the smb kde ioslave (smb:/ in konqueror) that i can't connect to even with smbclient, error message is: timeout connecting to 192.168.0.2:445 timeout connecting to 192.168.0.2:139 Error connecting to 192.168.0.2 (Die Operation wird bereits ausgeführt) - free translation "operation in progress" Connection to 192.168.0.2 failed sometimes ofcoure througb the smb nature the browse list is outdated, but nmap tells me that the machine is online? if i tell samba to be the lmb for this workgroup with: os level = 255 preferred master = yes i can see in wireshark that browser election takes place, and the pc in question releases the workgroup so that my pc is the new local master browser. Hi, as stated in the samba docs Netbios over IPX should be disabled, see: http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/NetworkBrowsing.html Are all workgroups affected by this? [Samba] share subdir (permission problem)
Hi, i would like to share some directorys below /home/myuser with security = share. it all works fine if all parent dirs (e.x. /test1/test2/test3) are owned by the samba guest account. but if just one is owned by myuser it doesnt work :( at least write support is a problem. [Samba] dns queries from samba?
hi, i played around with ethereal a bit, looks like samba is trying to resolve GANDALF, the ethereal entry: source: my ip, dest: nameserver, protocol: dns info: standard query A GANDALF im very sure i've used the name GANDALF for nothing else except my netbios name. [Samba] Netbios over more then one protocol
Hi, i'm reading: samba-3.0.20a/docs/htmldocs/Samba3-HOWTO/NetworkBrowsing.html#id2564441 ... The election process is /fought out, so to speak/ over every NetBIOS network interface. In the case of a Windows 9x/Me machine that has both TCP/IP and IPX installed and has NetBIOS enabled over both protocols, the election will be decided over both protocols. As often happens, if the Windows 9x/Me machine is the only one with both protocols, then the LMB may be won on the NetBIOS interface over the IPX protocol. Samba will then lose the LMB role because Windows 9x/Me will insist it knows who the LMB is. Samba will then cease to function as an LMB, and browse list operation on all TCP/IP-only machines will therefore fail... what exactly happens if theres a netbios/ipx machine in one workgroup (only windows machines) that wins the election for the local master browser (theres one in every workgroup right?) The network neighborhood wouldn't show anything right? Would anything change if all machines install ipx? Second scenario: this workgroup is in a subnet with other workgroups (no ipx installed), every workgroup has its lmb.
