Why not use cifs instead of smbfs? seems to work better for me.

I'm using stock 2.6.9 and have used the mm variations with no success.
It's bigger then Debian.

The Backup exec agent works great, this is not a samba issue per se.

There is no archive bit in traditional unix / linux.

The way I deal with this is full backups, or using tar and backing up
the tar file.

I wanted to say that I had problems up to the time I upgraded to .7a
three offices All 2000 clients, XP hates me, but then again XP hates everyone when
it comes to printing.

I agree with the above it most probebly hardware related. 100/fd
can be problematic even with the best gear.

100/fd to a switch or a crossover cable?
If it's to a hub then there is our problem.

It might help if you told us _what_ version of Autocad.
And what version of SAMBA.
Right now I have whole offices using cadd without corruption.

I have one office that has some file locking problems, thats with 2000i with the civil
plugins.
It was easily resolved by, (this is just with the civil plugin btw.)

level2 oplocks = no

Make sure that CAD is configured for a multi-user environment.
Use the most current version of samba to, I do.

http://snapshot.debian.net is your friend.

Why not upgrade to a more modern version of samba?

[Samba] unable to get pushed drivers to work with hp plotters

2002-09-25 Thread Lawrence Walton

Hello all! I am running a samba network remotely and am unable to get the
driver version needed for cad applications to work It's for a hp750c.

I can push the driver fine.

And previous versions (the one that came with 2000 and 2.65) worked;
but were unsatisfactory for CAD. The version that my cad users want is
version 4.64 but for the life of me I can't get that version to work.
The driver pushes, but then the user can not print to the device.

Things that I have done;

* deleted the contents of W32X86/2 and W32X86/3 and re-uploaded the driver (this works
for the other printer just fine).
* Created multiple printers/names with different versions of the driver.
* deleted the contents of winnt\system32\spoll\drivers\2 and 3 on the workstation.
* Installed and then deleted the driver pointing to the lpt port on the workstation.
(thinking that it was a missing dll.)
* Tried slightly different drivers EG the 750c+ and 755CM, in reality it's a c with
the postscript module.
* Looked at the oh so wonderful hp site for newer drivers to down load but of course
they want me to order a CD.

The system is a up-to-date debian sid box running Samba version 2.2.5-1.
And has run perfectly, with the exception of this.

Hints? Questions? Please ask.
