[Samba] Weird issue with Windows 2003 server connecting to samba

2004-06-01 Thread Spencer Clark

Dear all,

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to fix the following conundrum

We have the following setup

Using samba version 2.2.8 on a server with three network cards

192.168.0.241/24 10/100 Local network for
administration

192.168.10.241/24 10/100 ASP client network

192.168.11.241/24 Fibre network for link to websites and
data backups

Samba server is configured to use all 3 interfaces.

Linked to this server we have a Windows 2000 server

192.168.0.254/24 10/100 Local network for
administration

192.168.11.254/24 Fibre network for link from websites
and data backups

X.X.X.254 Public ip address for web access

There is an entry in winnt/system32/drivers/etc/hosts that points to the
192.168.11.241 address of the samba server.

On this box all requests from the website to the samba server connect , as
they should, through the fibre network.

Here is where the problem begins

We have added a windows 2003 server to run websites configured as follows

192.168.0.250/24 10/100 Local network for
administration

192.168.11.250/24 Fibre network for link from websites
and data backups

X.X.X.254 Public ip address for web access

There is an entry in winnt/system32/drivers/etc/hosts that points to the
192.168.11.241 address of the samba server.

Connections from this server choose any interface i=on the windows server to
make the connection, chosen randomly from all three.

We have changed the bind order of the network cards to place the fibre card
as the first card. We have entered manual metrics, assigning 1 to the fibre
card and 20 to the other 2 cards. We have added a persistant static route
to the samba server through the fibre interface card. None of this makes
any difference. The windows server still randomly selects an interface to
connect through. We have tried re-installing the operating system on
another server, just incase, but this produces the same results.

We need to tie this to the fibre network for performance. Any ideas on what
to try to fix this would be appreciated

Spencer Clark

[Samba] Samba LDIF for a computer account

Could someone post an LDIF for a computer account?

I am wondering if I need to have a sambaPrimaryGroupSID entry? I am
wondering because smbldap-useradd.pl -w workstn$ doesnt do it.

[Samba] inetOrgPerson vs. sambaSidEntry for Computer accounts in LDAP

2004-02-12 Thread Spencer
I am looking at my computer accounts that were created using
smbldap-useradd.pl -w workstationname. And I see the following
objectClasses:

top
inetOrgPerson
posixAccount
sambaSamAccount
I understand I need one structural objectClass, but don't understand why
inetOrgPerson is being used. Couldn't I use sambaSidEntry instead?
sambaSidEntry is structural, and only requires sambaSID.

Any insight is welcome.

it is by convention since a user normally has other
attributes that are desiured such as email, telephone number,
etc...
I understand using inetOrgPerson for my user accounts, but for the
computer accounts seems a little strange.

Its not going to break anything changing from inetOrgPerson to
sambaSidEntry will it? Solely for the computer accounts.

[Samba] integrating active directory with samba 3.0

2004-01-15 Thread Adrain Spencer
Hi can some please help me integrate samba 3.0 with
active directory. I'm very confused about this process
so far my research led me to the following article
http://asia.cnet.com/itmanager/netadmin/0,39006400,39081966,00.htm.
However other research led me to the use of winbind
for this setup. The confusing thing is that the
article did not mention winbind. I would like to have
it where we maintain one set of user accounts that we
create in our active directory database we use both
windows 2000 and 2003 server. With this single login
users will be able to login to redhat Linux boxes with
there same login name that they use to login to there
windows workstations. This login will also give them
access to samba share on our redhat 9.0 server. Any
help with this would be much appreciated.

[Samba] Samba Browsing and BDC +LDAP

2004-01-13 Thread Spencer
Hello everybody. I have two questions today.

I am in the middle of moving my NT4 domain over to SAMBA 3.0 with ldap.
I get some errors while I am browsing computers in the new SAMBA domain.
For example \\it1132 is not available. You might not have permissions
to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server
to find out if you have access permissions. An internal Windows 2000
error occurred. I will also get the same message with this new error.
The system cannot find the message text for message number 0x%1 in the
message file for %2. Strange eh? I am later able to go back to that
same workstation and click it again then it works.

My second question is one that I have seen pop up on the list
occasionally but have never seen a definitive answer. When using a BDC
what do I use for the ldap admin dn = ? The BDC is also a Slave LDAP
server and the ldapsam is pointing to localhost. I have heard that you
should not use the manager dn, but should use the updatedn specified in
the slapd.conf file.

This error might be caused by the above question. On my BDC's I
occasionally see these errors.
[2004/01/07 21:53:55, 1] passdb/pdb_ldap.c:ldapsam_modify_entry(1173)
ldapsam_modify_entry: Failed to modify user dn=
uid=troon$,ou=Computers,dc=aib,dc=com with: No such attribute
   modify: delete values failed
[2004/01/07 21:53:55, 0] passdb/pdb_ldap.c:ldapsam_update_sam_account(1366)
ldapsam_update_sam_account: failed to modify user with uid = troon$,
error: modify: delete values failed (Success)

Any ideas?

Thanks a million everyone.

That was exactly the problem, in my haste in removing Novell from the

I have one more error that only happened when I upgraded to

There is nothing there now. And I am receiving the following error in my

All of my groups are defined in LDAP, including my SAMBA Group Mappings.
I am thinking it has something to do with the missing files under
/var/cache/samba. Can anyone help me out?

This is for the print change notify backchannel. Either you have
disabled the server service on the clients or perhaps have the XP

[Samba] Bummer of an error.

2003-12-10 Thread Spencer
I am getting a bummer of an error. In user manager I can sucessfully
modify users including group membership. But when I double click on the
groups (on the second pane below the users) and try to add or delete a
user from a group I get this error

The group name could not be found.

The scripts are defined in my smb.conf as follows

add user to group script = /usr/local/sbin/smbldap-groupmod.pl -m '%u' '%g'
delete user from group script = /usr/local/sbin/smbldap-groupmod.pl -x
'%u' '%g'

I can run /usr/local/smbldap-groupmod.pl -m spencer Test and it does the
add to ldap
and the delete works well too. But in user manager its broken.

Anyone have any ideas? I am willing to try anything, a level 10 log is
too much information to parse through, but if I know what to look for
its easier.

Thanks,
Spencer

Hello,

When I try to build using rpmbuild --bb samba3.spec after installing the

file comes out to be just over 52 megs.

How can I strip it down to be the regular size? I remember rebuilding
from SRPM and it created a debug rpm as well. It didnt do that this time.

Any ideas.

When i build from a source RPM with the command rpmbuild -bb samba3.spec
my rpm ends up to be 52 megs. This is on redhat 9
If I do the exact same thing on my fedora core 1 box it creates a 19 meg

Any ideas on how to make the rpm from the redhat 9 box be smaller?

Thanks,

[Samba] Samba works GREAT with these exceptions...

2003-12-08 Thread Spencer
Hello everyone. I think Samba is wonderful. I have a full domain running here using ldap servers as the back end. The PDC connects to the master LDAP server while the BDC's do localhost lookups as they are slave LDAP servers. The following are snippets of logs that are appearing on my syslog host. Error is on top explanation below. Could anyone point me in the right direction?

I am running samba 3.0.1pre3-1 Samba is built from SRPM with --acl-support added. I understand this is a lot of info, nevertheless I have a successful installation running and am having great fun removing Novell from the corporation and replacing it with open-source software.

read_socket_data: recv failure for 4. Error = No route to host

This comes from my PDC

[2003/12/08 13:34:25, 0] lib/util_sock.c:get_socket_addr(919)
getpeername failed. Error was Transport endpoint is not connected
[2003/12/08 13:34:26, 0] lib/util_sock.c:write_socket_data(388)

[2003/12/08 13:34:26, 0] lib/util_sock.c:send_smb(585)
Error writing 4 bytes to client. -1. (Connection reset by peer)

And finally output from a BDC

[Samba] Attempt to compile samba 3.0.0 on OpenServer 5.0.6

2003-10-27 Thread Spencer Clark
Hello,

We are trying to compile Samba3.0.0 on OpenServer 5.0.6 with gcc2.95.2
and when running make we get the following message.

checking configure summary... yes

Does anyone have a suggestion as to how I can overcome this issue.
(I have compiles Samba3.0.0 successfully on Unixware 7.1.3 from the same
download , if this is relevant ?)

Kind regards

Spencer Clark
