[Samba] Windows 7 Support

2009-09-29 Thread sambalist
Hello Samba,

I hope to know if the latest Samba release could provide file or print service
to Windows 7 or Vista.
Thanks! :)

Best wishes,

Thanks Jeremy,

Glad to hear that.
Even Windows 7 x64 is included? :)

Best wishes,

Yes, Windows 7 support is a high priority for us.

With latest Samba and latest CIFS you should be able to use
the posix extensions that Jeremy has put in lately. So you
have a chance here.

If I do need a new version of samba then I've have to wait for a Gentoo
ebuild for it.

Right now I have samba 3.0.24 and kernel 2.6.18.

So far I haven't been able to upgrade samba as the latest version still
isn't in portage.
I did end up restarting the server and client computers though and now I
can access files with special characters in them with the Linux CIFS client.
So I guess this is supported in the CIFS client but it only works part
of the time.

Hi,
Simple Answer:
there are a few special characters you must not use in filenames when
windows is involved. They have special meaning in windows and are

not allowed in filenames.
Period.
your examples contain 2 of them * and :.
these characters are simply illegal in widows/cifs/smb filenames.

Christoph

RE: [Samba] I CAN'T CHANGE THE PASSWORD FROM XP STATIONS

2004-04-29 Thread sambalist
This is due to one or more of the most recent Microsoft patches (Someone
else on the list found it to be specifically KB828741)
which breaks samba in some way and causes the below error.

Hopefully the developers are aware of this and are looking at a resolution.

Richard.

I have seen the log file and found

 NT_STATUS_WRONG_PASSWORD

 Check_oem_password: incorrect password length (-358407785)

 Any light on this

RE: [Samba] Password changes to /etc/passwd, but not smbpasswd

2004-04-27 Thread sambalist
This seems to be due to applying the latest set of Microsoft security
patches.
I've just discovered this problem myself today.
Unpatched machines work fine, but as soon as they are patched you can't
changes passwords.
I don't know _which_ of the patches is to blame, but I think it's one of the
five most recently announced.
I am going to attempt to discovered which one it is.

Richard.

Subject: [Samba] Password changes to /etc/passwd, but not smbpasswd

 Hello,

I've Googled and done some mailing list searches, but can't
 figure out the following .

When a user on a Windows 2000 machine attempts to change
their password, the change gets applied to /etc/passwd, but
 not to smbpasswd.

The error I receive from Windows is: The system cannot
change your password right now because the domain .. Is not
available. (The domain is available as far as I can tell).

My Samba logs show the following: [2004/04/27 10:44:57, 0]
 smbd/chgpasswd.c:check_oem_password(832) check_oem_password:
 incorrect password length (1985167808).

Thanks in advance for any help you can give . I've just
re-inherited a client from a year ago where the HD's
completely crashed and the jackass who was here didn't do any
backups. When I left a year ago it worked .
now, I'm not sure what the deal is.
