[Samba] [samba]Samba 2.2.3a and Win2k

2002-12-30 Thread Chandra Ramesh
Title: [samba]Samba 2.2.3a and Win2k

Hello,

We have a redhat Linux 7.3 and Samba 2.2.3a. Our clients are WIN2K. From
WIN2K machines, from the network neighbourhood, I am not able to see my Linux machine.
If I give a search of this Linux machine by giving the I.P address from windows explorer,
it is able to find the machine. But again, if I try to login, it fails. What could be the problem?

How can I make the Linux machine visible thro' the network neighbourhood?

Thanks and Regards,
Ramesh Chandra

I am running Redhat 7.4 and Samba to run the
Windows PDC.  Because of someone else setting up the Linux box, I have no
room on the /home directory.  Can I set a path other than home for Samba to
save profiles on?  I really don't want to reinstall lnux and have to set up
partitions differently.   Or resize the partitions to a larger
size.  We want roaming profiles.

Hi.

I run SuSE 8.1 and samba here. On the linux machine I have a HP1100A on the

I can print ok from this linux machine to both printers.

From my laptop, that runs WIN98, I can print to the HP1100A printer.

I cannot print to the DJ895Cxi, even if its set up as a network printer.

I could do this with SuSE dists up to 8.0.

From 8.1 printers are set up using cups.

If I do smb://gva0006/D : It asks me for identification, but I've tried to

[Samba] Samba failover

2003-02-06 Thread daniel . jarboe
Well, I was wondering how to setup samba installations to provide
fail-over for linux boxes that will be acting as a print-server for
windows clients in an NT Domain (windows PDC and WINS servers). I
didn't see any ideas in The Unofficial Samba Howto and the Samba-
HOWTO-Collection. I was thinking having two print-servers NATed
behind a linux router, and have the linux router do port forwarding
on 137-139 to the main samba print-server, which talks to LPRng to
talk to network attached printers. If the samba print-server goes
down then switch the port-forwarding destination to the backup box
with a similar configuration.

What are the better ways?
If there aren't any (which I doubt), is this even workable (I'm not
sure having these two samba servers with the same netbios name, etc,
is workable).

Thanks for any ideas,
~ Daniel

[Samba] Samba problem

2003-02-07 Thread Angie Yee
Hi there:

My problem is (I have asked this question for lots of time but no one can
give me the answer):

I have a Redhat 7.0 server with Samba 2.0.7-2 ssl. We have upgraded Samba
to 2.2.7a by using tar.gz..
Before I upgrade to 2.2.7a, I checked the samba version as below:

Samba-2.0.7-2 ssl
Samba-common-2.0.7-2 ssl
Samba-client-2.0.7-2 ssl

Then after I upgraded to Samba 2.2.7a, I check the samba version as below:

Samba-2.2.7a (upgrade)
Samba-common-2.0.7-2 ssl (still the same)
Samba-client-2.0.7-2 ssl (still the same)

I supposed that the Samba is upgraded. After 2 weeks, the users reported
that they cannot talk with Samba. Also, they told me that someone has been
checked with the samba. That's a library has missing. I have no idea why's
that since I am a newbie for samba and linux system.

BR,
Angie

[Samba] samba acl's

2003-02-12 Thread David . Grudek
I have been playing with samba for a short time. I am not a programmer
but a I have some questions on if acls within samba are possible,
regardless of acl's in the file system or kernel. In samba now, you can
have read list or write list and say this user and/or group has write
and/or this user and/or group has read only. This is a scaled down
version of an acl. What if they created a folder called acl's and had one
file called no access, one file called read, write, change, and full. An
entry inside these files could look similar to:
 /data = @domain admin, john, steve
/data/accounting = @domain admin, @accounting, bob

if these entries were in the change file then samba would restrict him
accordingly. I have been trying to get acl's to work and it has been
difficult to work. I have been thinking that maybe samba could do this
for us without having to count on other pieces of software. I am only
asking so please dont take this the wrong way. If it is possible I would
like to help make it happen. I am not sure how I can help because I am
not a programmer, but if there is anything I will be willing to pitch in.

[Samba] samba troubles

2003-02-25 Thread tandrew1304

I am running Samba (latest version) under redhat 8.0

in the smb.conf, I have security = user,
and have set userid's and passwords based on 3 Linux accounts
I have.

this works fine in windows XP and 2000,
but in Windows 98 and WIndows Me, samba prompts me for a password
to //servername//Home

why does it prompt for a password in 98/Me but not 2000/XP?

also, in XP, I can write to /home/username
but am not able to create or write to /home/username/subdirectories
I was told I had to set permissions in redhat to do this, but
I think
the problem is /home/username/public_html was created by root,
if username created it, then it'll write just fine, but since
root
created it then it won't let username write to it.how would
I go
about fixing this from the root side so that username can write
to it?

RE: [Samba] samba

2003-03-03 Thread Mitchell, Andy
Lawrence - No, you did not specify that the machine account had been created
in your email. I believe Den is correct. This error is the result of a
username/password mismatch on the NT PDC you are talking to (PRIMARYDC). So,
you could try a few different things:

1. Smbpasswd -j DYLNET -r PRIMARYDC -U
Supply a that is valid in the domain and supply the password
when prompted

2. create a machine account in the domain and just run the 'smbpasswd -j
DYLNET -r PRIMARYDC' command without a user or password specified.

3. Failing either of those, use tcpdump (on your Linux box) or Ethereal to
watch the traffic between your client and the PDC.

Hope that helps.

RE: [Samba] samba

2003-03-03 Thread Mitchell, Andy
Not sure I understand your question. Samba won't have anything to do with
logins to the Unix box. How you do authentication for login to a Unix box is
way off topic for this list (perhaps that's not really what you are asking?)

In truth, my comments were based on *very* recent experience (last week)
testing samba in an HP-UX/Solaris and Win2k/WINNT domain setup. (Some big
differences in auth and access). I just learned this stuff myself. I'm good
with Unix sysadmin. I'm an idiot with Windows sysadmin.

Good luck!

[Samba] samba PDC

2003-03-04 Thread Lauri Jesmin
Hello, is this possible to use a samba server as PDC and authenticate
users against other samba server.

So, there are two samba PDC-s:
one is "local" and another is "remote".

"local" is in same subnet as clients and hosts machine accounts and
local user accounts and is PDC in local domain. "local" is linux.

"remote" is also Samba PDC, on solaris.

Problem is that although i can use "local" shares with my username and
password from windows 2000 computer, I can not login to domain from
windows 2000 workstation, from there only "local" computer accounts that
have password in "local" smbpasswd can log in.

Unix account information is replicated via nisplus, so this is not a
problem.

configuration from "local" is here:

[Samba] Samba Printing

2003-03-11 Thread Gregory Chagnon

Hi-
I want to be able to use a linux server with Samba for all my users to spool
their print jobs too. Right now we have a Windows NT Server that shares all
of our printers, most of the are connected through JetDirect cards and other
print server devices. Then I share those printers out to each of the users.
How would I accomplish this with Samba and CUPS? Thanks!!

[Samba] Samba problems

2003-03-15 Thread Spiro Philopoulos
I'm trying the latest versions of Samba on a LRP box (kernel 2.2.19), namely
versions 2.2.7a and 2.2.8, but whenever I try to access a share it fails and
the smbd log has the following error message:

build_sam_account: smbpasswd database is corrupt! username smb1 not in
unix passwd database!

I have the user accounts defined in the smbpasswd file and in /etc/passwd.
When using an older version (2.0.4b) I have no problems at all. Also, when
trying to change a Samba password using smbpasswd I get a similar error message:

build_sam_account: smbpasswd database is corrupt! username smb1 not in unix
passwd database!
Failed to find entry for user smb1.
Failed to modify password entry for user smb1

I configured it during the build to use the traditional smbpasswd file. Does
anybody know what this is?.
Another issue is that nmbd won't start up if I have "interfaces = all"
specified in the global section of smb.conf, which again wasn't a problem with
the older version.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Why ?

the client cannot connect.
- Some users modify word or excel options and after logoff and logon after,
these options are forgotten.
- A user in more than one NT group is not used.

[Samba] Samba permissions

2003-05-27 Thread Curtis Vaughan
 Well, I thought I knew Samba permissions, but I guess I don't.

Currently, any user that has an account on the Samba server has access
to the share "Accounting".

So, let's say I have user1, user2, user3, user4
I have added user1, user2 and user3 to the accounting group. user4 is
not a member of accounting.

On the server itself (not for Samba), I set up permissions for the
folder as 774 for all directories and files therein. User/group
permission are set as admin.accounting

The samba section for this share reads:

[Accounting]
comment = Accounting
path = /home/accounting
read only = No
create mask = 0770
force create mode = 0770
security mask = 0770
directory mask = 0770
force directory mode = 0770
directory security mask = 0770
inherit permissions = Yes
If any local user access this share, they also automatically become part
of the accounting group (as far as samba is concerned).

Now, if I add a line "valid users = user1, user2, user 3" then of
course, just they can get in. But that doesn't seem to be the right
solution. The right solution would be to permit only accounting group
users into the folder. What am I doing wrong?

[Samba] Samba Dropouts...

2003-05-30 Thread Andrew Holland
OK, I have been banging my head into the wall on this now for two or more
weeks

We have a samba server (2.2.8 then 2.2.8a) running on top of a 320 GB raid
ATA-raid array with a FastTrack controller. Both the server and workstations
are running through Gigabit NIC's. Every five or so minutes the workstations
loose communications with the server, Then it takes 10-15 seconds for the
workstations to reconnect to the server. The times are not specific, for
example it can take anywhere from 1 minute to 3 hours between drop outs, but
when we put a workstation under load it is (approx) 5-7 minutes between drop
outs. Sometimes all stations loose the connection at once, sometimes it is
only one workstation. It does not occur in any other program except Samba.
If I don't get this fixed soon my boss is going to make me go back to
(shutters) windows

Globals section of the smb.conf file goes something like
---
#Server Identification
workgroup = GENESIS
netbios name = EXODUS
netbios aliases = INSTALLERS
server string = Fedler studio Samba Server

#Server Settings
log file = /data/system/samba/logs/%m.log

domain admin group = @dAdmin
[netlogon]
path = /data/system/samba/netlogon
comment = network Logon Share

Any help whatsoever would be appreciated

[Samba] Samba 3

Currently we have a feasibility study looking at Linux as an
alternate for file and print services in a pure Windows 2000

the ability to do SSO to shares on a Linux server. My
question is, will the Beta release have this functionality
or is it only in the final release? Is there a time frame
for this?

[Samba] Samba & CUPS...

I have an HP Laser connected to the parallel port on a Red hat 8.0 server and
I have configured it to print with CUPS. It prints a test page OK, but I

According to the documentation, all I need to put in the smb.conf file is:

printing = cups
printcap name = cups

I have restarted samba and cups but the printer stil doesn't appear in Network

Does anyone have any ideas?

[Samba] Samba CVS

2002-10-11 Thread James Brechtel
Ok, I've compiled samba from cvs and have it installed and running fine. I'm
trying to get winbindd setup so I can log in using windows login accounts.
Now, my machine is joined to the domain properly (wbinfo can -a authenticate
names and password... secret check succeeded... wbinfo -u wbinfo -g
works...getent passwd and getent group both work fine..). /etc/nsswitch conf
has lines

passwd: files winbind nisplus nis
shadow: files nisplus nis
group: files winbind nisplus nis

/etc/pam.d/login has

auth required /lib/security/pam_securetty.so
auth required /lib/security/pam_winbind.so
auth required /lib/security/pam_stack.so service=system-auth
auth required /lib/security/pam_nologin.so
accountsufficient /lib/security/pam_winbind.so
accountrequired /lib/security/pam_stack.so service=system-auth
password required /lib/security/pam_stack.so service=system-auth
sessionrequired /lib/security/pam_stack.so service=system-auth
sessionoptional /lib/security/pam_console.so

.

Now when all the samba daemons (smbd, nmbd and winbindd) are running...login
doesn't work at all. I can su (to root or local accounts) from existing
terminals but logging in from vty doesn't work at all (using local or windows
accounts). Su'ing to a windows account doesn't work however.

I ran winbindd in debug and watched it whenever I tried to su to a windows
account...and it doesn't say the password was wrong...but it doesn't say it
was successful either (like it does when I authenticate with wbinfo -a).

Anyone have any idea or is this just how the current cvs code acts?

Thanks in advance,

[Samba] Samba... help!

2002-10-30 Thread Freddy Lang

I need some help to configure Samba. I have two
computers on my LAN, one running WinXP, the other running RH 8. I've tried to
configure Samba, using both manual text mode and WebMin/SWAT. But nothing seems
to help.

I can see both computers in Network Neighbourhood
(My Network Places), but I can't access the Linux box. When I try it, I get the
following error message:

"Linuxbox is not accessible. You might not have
permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this
server to find out if you have access permissions.

The network path was not found:"

It seems like I messed something up about security
level, passwords, users or something like that. I just can't see what I'm
missing. I made changes in "hosts" and "lmhosts" on both computers, and I ran a
reg file called WinXP_PlainPassword.reg. That reg file is supposed to fix the
registry so I wouldn't have any problems regarding passwords.

I have to mention that the XP computer works as
gateway, since a thunderstorm killed my router a couple of months ago.But if I
can get the Linux up and running I want it to be gateway, also because I want to
host a couple of web sites on it.

I hope some of you guys out there are able to help
med. Preferrably online (ICQ or the like) since I believe that method would be
better than sending mails back and forth a million times. If somebody would want
to, it's possible to mess with my Linux box through WebMin.

Kind regards

Freddy

[Samba] SAMBA Clustering

2002-11-01 Thread MAAHS, DAN
--- Received from WPS.DMAAHS 221-506311-01-02 147p

We are working to replace all our file and print servers with SAMBA, but
that will require a large amount of storage. What we would like to do is
place all the data on a SAN and fiber attached to several IA32 Linux
systems that are clustered.

My real question is, with all the recent talk on locking issues, how does
SAMBA work in a clustered environment? Or does it? If it does, are there
any special considerations that need to be made? Any traps to watch out
for?

Distributions that we usually use are RedHat and SuSE. I am currently
working with the 2.2.5 source compiled with my settings.

[Samba] Samba Woes.

2002-11-04 Thread Kevin Smith

I tried to add a test user and as far as the linux box was concerned, It was fine, but the
Win98 box kept giving me "Incorrect Password" Samba's log agreed with "Invalid
Username/Password" on several lines.
Then Samba and NMB stopped working all together,. I
finally "woke" Samba up,. though it start very slowly (about 2 mins) but NMB
doesn't budge. Of course it might as well not be there since I can do anything
connectivity wise. I went thought the DIAGNOSIS>txt and can Ping both ways,
but still SMB and NMB don't want to work. I even tried removing and re
installing them (RPM version) to no avail.
Imp thinking it has something to do with a
connection (or lack thereof) with the netbios ports, but I cant find any
evidence to prove or deny this. Any Suggestion as where I can look would be
helpful.
I even tried several methods of reinstalling, but

[Samba] Samba limitations

2002-11-05 Thread Rick Segeberg
My company is seriously considering moving our existing NetWare 4.11
file servers to Samba Linux servers (Red Hat 8). Our current servers
hold (on average) 400GB of data each (some much more) on various volumes
(our largest volume at this time is 400GB). Most of this space is used
by multimedia files which are >1GB up to 4GB (yes, for a single file).
We have about 200 users who have access to various directories across
all of the servers, although we hope to consolidate that by making a
separate server(s) for each major department.

1) What kind of limitation (if any) does Samba have in being a file
server? By that I mean are there limitations on file sizes, volume
sizes, number of files, number of users connected, performance issues,
etc.

2) Has anyone found a good way to add space to an existing volume
(something easy to do in NetWare) via RAID, stripping or whatever? In
other words, I will need to add space in the future by adding a hard
drive and spanning an existing volume across that new hard drive. I
know I can do it via mount points, but that gets messy, and only adds
space to the directory structure in which you mount the new drive,
rather than to the entire volume. We will be using RAID 5 (hardware
based), but even after adding a drive to the array, you somehow have to
expand the volume across the new space.

3) What are the gotchas on file system rights? We do not have a PDC at
this time, but when Samba 3.0 is final, would like to use our existing
Windows 2000 AD domain (which is not actually used as a domain right
now, but only for Exchange/Outlook functionality) to help manage those
rights.

I would appreciate your feedback. Samba is my file server at home, but
that doesn't even compare to what we're looking at here. Any advice,
what not to do, etc. is welcome.

- Rick.

[Samba] Samba problems

2002-11-06 Thread CH ENGINEERING CO.

Hi!

I tried to set up a Samba PDC but so far it is not
yet working (3 weeks passed).  I posted my Samba problems to news groups
and discussion forums, but the suggestions given were not able to solve my
problems.  I went through a few HOWTOs and followed the step-by-step guide,
still can not solve my problem.  I am realy new to Linux and Samba and hope
sameone will guide me through.

(1) What I did: -
(a) I installed the samba
samba-swat, samba-common, samba-client, and  edited /etc/samba/smb.conf
files as following: -

    # Samba config file created
using SWAT    # from chee_ch.com
(127.0.0.1)    # Date : 2002/10/26    #
Global parmeters    [global]

    ;Basic server setting
3/11/2002    workgroup = CH LINUX SER
netbios name = CH-HOMES    server string = Primary Domain
Server running Samba %v    socket options = TCP_NODELAY
IPTOS_LOWDELAY SO_RCVBUF = 8192 SO_SNDBUF = 8192
;PDC and master browser setting    os
level = 64    preferred master = yes

*Retype*new*passwd*%n\n*passwd:*all*
*authentication*token*updated*successfully*
    add user script = /usr/sbin/useradd -d /dev/null -g
machines -c 'Mechine Account' -s /bin/false -M %u

    # Domain
groups:    domain admin group = root@adm

    [printers]
comment = All printer    path =

    (b) I added the Samba user Peter
and Secretary: -

    #useradd -m Peter
    #passwd Peter
  .
    #cat /etc/passwd |
/usr/bin/mksmbpasswd.sh > /etc/samba/smbpasswd
    #smbpasswd Peter
  .

    (c) I repeated the steps to
create account for Secretary.

    (d) I added root passward to the
Samba

    #smbpasswd -a root
  ..

 (e) I did

 #groupadd -g 200
admins
 #groupadd -g 201
machines
 #mkdir -m 0775
/home/netlogon
 #chown root.admins
/home/netlogon
 #mkdir /home/samba
/home/samba/profiles
 #chmod 1757
/home/samba/profiles

 (f) At the Windows 98
client I change to Client for Microsoft Networks, Primary Network Logon, Logon
to NT Domain.

 (g) I copied AutoCAD files
to /home/Peter/tmp/  and /home/Secretary/tmp/

(2) What happened

 I re-booted the Samba
PDC and Samba started fine.  From the Network Neighborhood of window
client (Peter and Secretary) I can see CH LINUX SER.  I double

clicked it I can see CH-HOMES (netbios name).  I
double clicked CH-HOMES, it prompted for passwd, I enter and I went in
CH-HOMES.  But, it is an ***empty***
     folder.
I supposted be able to see to Peter and
Secretary folders.  And and in Peter and Secretary I supposted be
able to see tmp ...

I rechecked the smb.conf
file many, many times to ensure no spelling error etc, nothing worked out.
In the CH-HOMES folder of window client, it is still an empty
    folder.

(3) What I like to see

A Samba PDC serving 10 over
window clients, each window client login to their respective /home
diectory.

What has happened?!  I am new to Linux and
Samba, and help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Oswald

[Samba] Samba problems

2002-11-06 Thread CH ENGINEERING CO.

Thank you for your helps.  After I corrected
all the spellings and did chown -R Secretary
/home/Secretarychmod -R 700 /home/Secretary ... I double clicked the
LINUXSERV at the Secretary window
client, it did not prompt me for
password instead went right to the CH-HOMES folder.
When I double clicked the CH-HOMES,
again it is an ***empty*** folder.  I supposed to see

[Samba] SAMBA Configuration

2002-11-08 Thread Kenneth Illingsworth
I just built a server using the United Linux beta3 and activated SAMBA v2.2.6 . I left
smb.conf mostly default, but did change the Netbios name and WINS server (since we
have one running). However, I cannot ping the netbios name nor the ip address of the
server from another workstation. Similarly, the server can ping itself. But, it cannot
ping the workstation. They are on the same subnet.

I thought that it was an interface issue since 'testparm | grep interface' on the new
server listed the loopback address. After changing the interface to 172.17.60.7/24
(server ip using CIDR rules), the same anomaly occurred.

If I let the system lease an ip address from our DHCP server, all pings work. Perhaps
this is not a SAMBA configuration issue, but I thought I would try here first since
SAMBA is what I am after.

Regards,
Ken Illingsworth

[Samba] samba PDC

2002-11-11 Thread Liviu Balan

Hello
I'm trying to replace the windows PDC of my company
with a linux one.
I've tried doing this with samba...It allows me to
join a computer to the specific domain, but it won't allow me to log in,
although i've created the users and passwords (useradd and
smbpasswd)
Can anyone please email me a smb.conf example that
works for him/her?
Thank you

winbind has no function without a domain controller, since it only works
with users and groups, not hosts.

You are looking for nss_wins, you need to add "wins" to your hosts line
of nsswitch.conf, assuming the rest (getting the libs in the right
place) is done. Set a wins server in your smb.conf, and it should all
work. Of course, you need a WINS server.

[Samba] Samba permissions

2002-11-12 Thread graemew
I am at Samba 2.2.4 on Solaris 8 using Win2000 clients. The system default
umask is 022 in /etc/profile and I have set user umask to 002 in .profile.
Does Samba read/interpret either of these? All other setting are default
but I have set global permissions to;

create mask = 0664
force create mode = 0664
directory mask = 0775
force directory mode = 0775

and 'read = no' on the specific shares. It appears I am not getting the
correct permissions. A newly created directory will have 777 in one share
and 775 in another. A newly created file will have 777 in one share and
664 in another. I cannot find any consistency in setting these
permissions. I have also se those parameter on specific share with the
same result.

I understand that 'create mask' is a ADD while 'force create mode' is an OR
in setting permissions but it doesn't appear to be doing this, at least not
consistently. At one point I thought it was ignoring Samba and UNIX and
only getting permissions from the parent directory but this isn't the case
in the above example. I log in/out of client for each test.

What is going on? Is this a problem with my install or with V2.2.4? Any
help would be appreciated.

2002-11-18 Thread Wilson A. Galafassi Jr.
In squid faq have this:"

Configure Samba
Build/Install Samba

Samba must be built with configure options:

--with-winbind
--with-winbind-auth-challenge (needed for ntlm)

I want to use winbind with ntlm. It's necessary to use the 2 options in
compilation of samba???

Thanks
Wilson

[Samba] Samba & Citrix

2002-11-26 Thread Rory D. Hudson

Hello Everybody,

I hope everybody is doing well and that you can help me out
as I am approaching my wit’s end.  I am running a Citrix server on a Windows
2000 SP 3 server.  One of my published applications on this server needs to
access samba for multiple users.  So basically every user who logs on to the
Citrix server needs to have access to their home directory on our Unix server.
Sometimes this works fine and other times it errors out.  Once it errors out it
does not seem to want to allow access back in for quite some time.  Looking at
the log for the machine I get this.

[2002/11/26 12:23:37, 0] passdb/pdb_smbpasswd.c:(1367)

  unable to open passdb database.

[2002/11/26 12:24:10, 0] passdb/pdb_smbpasswd.c:(1367)

  unable to open passdb database.

[2002/11/26 12:24:10, 0] passdb/pdb_smbpasswd.c:(1367)

  unable to open passdb database.

[2002/11/26 12:24:41, 0] passdb/pdb_smbpasswd.c:(1367)

  unable to open passdb database.

[2002/11/26 12:24:41, 0] passdb/pdb_smbpasswd.c:(1367)

  unable to open passdb database.

Any clues as to what might be happening would be greatly
appreciated.  Thanks for the help

Go back to your email of yesterday. What help were you asking for? You
simply stated what was happening. If you want help from people on a
mailing list then you need to be very brief and very clear about what help
you need.

I would recommend that you in the [printers] section you spool to
/var/spool/samba, not to /tmp. The samba spool directory needs to be set
with permissions 1777, ie: rwxrwxrwt. This is where the print jobs are
collected from the Windows client, when the job has arrived it is then
sent to the CUPS spooler.

Your information says nothing about your CUPS configuration. Can you print
to the USB printer from Linux?

Why do you say that I have to go back to that e-mail ?.
To the last. Then I'm sorry. I told in the e-mail from yesterday what the
problem was.

Oops. I double checked amd see you did ask for help. Apologies.

1) Have you logged out and restarted samba since creating the new USB
printer?

2) What errors are reported in /var/log/cups/errors...?

3) What errors are being reported in /var/log/samba/... when you attempt
to print to this machine?

Here is your answer. It's a CUPS configuration issue.

Edit /etc/cups/mime.{types,conv} and uncomment the line that contains the
word 'octet' in both files.

[Samba] samba & nfs...

2002-11-28 Thread Stefan Nordlander
Hi, I'm having problems with M$ Office files on an samba mounted fs.
Here's the deal.

Server A is an NFS server holding the homes. (Irix 6.5.14)
Server B is the Samba server (Samba 2.2.2, kernel oplocks = no, Irix
6.5.14)

The homes are nfs-mounted on the Samba server (autofs), and all is well
until someone tries to open or create an Microsoft Office Document.
I suppose it has something to do with the (bloody) ~$blahblah.doc files
that are created by Office..

[Samba] Samba + Clipper

Hello for all !

We use a samba server 2.2.1a with conectiva 7 [

In begin we have many problems with index
corruption and clipper system freezes
Then we turned off oplocks and

But sometimes the system until freeze in one

When clipper system is closed in the first freezed

Our major DBF has 65MB and the major NSX has

I think that is big and the problem is it,

I don't want to come back to NT4, where the clipper
