Running FC6 and Samba 3.0.24-11.fc6.

Initially, after disabling SELinux and turning off Iptables, I could access
the shares that were set up. Came in this morning ready to start copying
files and can't get in. Prompts me for a username and password which is
rejected. I know it's not my workstation because I have another FC6/Samba
server running and have no problem getting to it. Here's what else I know:

1. Samba log for my machine shows no errors. In fact, shows me as
connected.

2. Viewing connections to Samba through Webmin shows me as connected.

3. Testing from the console connects me.

smbclient //Custer/ccarpenter -U ccarpenter
Password:
Domain=[HCCMHMRC] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.0.24-11.fc6]
smb: \>

4. From the DOS prompt on my workstation, I can ping the Samba server by
name. When I do a net view \\Custer it shows the shares. When I do net use
m: \\Custer\Intranet it prompts me for a username and password and then
fails.

I have added user=ccarpenter to the share--no effect. As far as I know, I
didn't make any changes to Samba after I got it working.

It's probably something simple, but what am I missing?

[Samba] Can't access shares

2004-10-06 Thread Brian Witowski
Im running Mandrake and Samba 3.0. I access this server with two WinXP Pro
machines (I try to anyways). My problem is that it seems like no matter how
I configure Samba, when I try to access a share, it pops up a login box. I
put in my username and password and it doesn't accept it. I click ok and it
just pops back up. It does this with root or any other users. Ive created
the machine accounts also.

Ive converted my users linux accounts to Samba accounts. Ive tried setting
all shares to "777", tried using Guest=yes and every other thing under the
sun.

Could somebody post a simple smb.conf with a share that should allow ANYBODY
to to have access no matter what? Im at my wits end.

I should also mention that these machines used to connect to a Samba 2.x
server without issue. Ive done the required policy changes and registry
tweaks.  That doesn't help either.

[Samba] Can't access shares from Windows Clients (Win2003 AD & Samba3 as Member Server)

2004-04-27 Thread Zbikowski, Andrew S. (TT)
This is my first venture into the world of Samba 3. I have a Win2003 AD
domain in native mode (no Win2000, NT4 domain controllers.)

My samba server successfully joined the domain. The problem I'm having is
when I try to access shares on the samba server from a windows client, I get
a Username/Password prompt. Giving my AD username/password doesn't work.
Tried all variations of my username (DOMAIN\Username, Username, Username@
realm) with no success.

This is just the output directory for a CUPS PDF printer, so security as
good as a printer output tray is good enough. Ideally, I don't want to
require users to enter their username/password...just like any share hosted
on a Windows server. Any help would be appreciated.

Relevelent chunks of smb.conf:
[global]
workgroup = DOMAIN
  realm = REALM.NAME
netbios name = HOSTNAME
security = ADS
password server = AD server for my site
  os level = 15
preferred master = No
local master = No
domain master = No
dns proxy = No
wins server = Offsite WINS Server
idmap uid = 1-65000
idmap gid = 1-65000
winbind use default domain = Yes
winbind trusted domains only = Yes
invalid users = root
hosts allow = mylocalnet

[Share]
comment = Samba Share
path = /project/test
admin users = SITEADMINGROUP, MyUsername
# (no domain info as winbind use default domain is set to yes)
read only = No
create mask = 0755
guest ok = Yes

[Samba] Can't access shares after Win2k client reboot

2003-08-14 Thread Martin Vuille
I have a RedHat 7.2 (2.4.9-13) box running Samba (2.2.7).

The box is a PDC for a couple of Win2k Pro SP4 boxes and
serves a couple of shares.

My problem is that, after rebooting a Win2k client, the
client can't access the shares any more.

If I try to access the shares, I am presented with a logon
dialog which won't accept any domain userids/password.

I checked the log files and noticed a couple of things that
I feel might be relevant:

- change_to_user: Invalid vuid used 100

- references to the userid "guest". I am logging on to the
  Win2k client with a userid that is not a "guest" account.

If I restart Samba (service smb restart) then everything
goes back to normal, until the next time I reboot the Win2k
box.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Re: [Samba] Can't access shares from Win98 machine

2003-07-31 Thread Joel Hammer
Just some thoughts:

You should have a guest account defined in your global. Try:
guest account = ftp
or
guest account = root
or
guest account = some_regular_user
or
guest account = special_samba_user_you_create

depending on your security needs.

You need to have ports 137 and 139 open on your Redhat server.

Is samba running on your server? Odd that you can't connect from you local
box.

Is xinetd trying to control samba? That has all sorts of ways not to
work. Best to have samba as a stand alone daemon.

[Samba] Can't access shares from Win98 machine

2003-07-30 Thread Dan Pixley
Hello all. I have recently set up Samba on my Rehdat 9 machine. I have
on my home network 2 computers, one running Redhat 9 (with Samba as
mentioned), and the other running Windows 98 2nd ed. My RH machine can
read and access shared directories on the Win98 machine just fine. My
Windows machine can see my Redhat machine on the smb, but cannot access
the shares. In other words, when I go to "Network Neighborhoods" ->
"Mshome" -> "The_Machine", I see my two shares (homes and test), but
when I try clicking into them, I am unable to access them. I am running
Samba 2.2.7. Here is my smb.conf:

# Samba config file created using SWAT
# from localhost.localdomain (127.0.0.1)
# Date: 2003/07/29 22:12:24

# Global parameters
[global]
workgroup = MSHOME
netbios name = THE_MACHINE
server string = Samba Server
security = SHARE
encrypt passwords = Yes
null passwords = Yes
passwd program = /usr/bin/passwd %u
passwd chat = *New*password* %n\n *Retype*new*password* %n\n
*passwd:*all*authentication*tokens*updated*successfully*
unix password sync = Yes
log level = 3
log file = /var/log/samba/%m.log
max log size = 0
socket options = TCP_NODELAY SO_RCVBUF=8192 SO_SNDBUF=8192
preferred master = Yes
local master = No
dns proxy = No
kernel oplocks = No
printing = cups

[homes]
comment = Home Directories
path = /home/Dan1/Shared
valid users = %S
read only = No
create mask = 0664
directory mask = 0775
guest ok = Yes

[printers]
comment = All Printers
path = /var/spool/samba
printable = Yes
browseable = No

[test]
path = /home/Dan1/Shared
read only = No
guest ok = Yes

Other things:
]# smbclient //localhost/The_Machine
added interface ip=192.168.1.102 bcast=192.168.1.255 nmask=255.255.255.0
error connecting to 127.0.0.1:139 (Connection refused)
Error connecting to 127.0.0.1 (Connection refused)
Connection to localhost failed

# nmap 127.0.0.1
Starting nmap V. 3.00 ( www.insecure.org/nmap/ )
Interesting ports on localhost.localdomain (127.0.0.1):
(The 1595 ports scanned but not shown below are in state: closed)
Port   State   Service
22/tcp openssh
25/tcp opensmtp
111/tcpopensunrpc
631/tcpopenipp
901/tcpopensamba-swat
6000/tcp   openX11
Nmap run completed -- 1 IP address (1 host up) scanned in 2 seconds
(I disabled my software firewall for the time being)

My home network is strung together using a Linksys Router with NAT
firewall. With my current router configuration, and if I boot the
Redhat machine into Windows, I am able to access the Windows shares just
fine.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Dan
