Hello,

the gt68xx has an 'override' feature that would fit your case. Edit
/etc/sane.d/gt68xx.conf and add the following lines (don't need to touch other
lines):

usb 0x07b3 0x045f
override plustek-opticslim-m12

It will make the backend treat your scanner like the optic slim M12
which is
what the patch is doing. Be sure you have installed the cism216.fw firmware
file. Otherwise the scanner will be detected but won't work.

There more details on overriding at
http://www.meier-geinitz.de/sane/gt68xx-
backend/adding.html

Stef

Hello,

there seems to have no support for your scanner in any release of SANE.
However there was an experimental patch for the gt68xx backend to add support
for it. You can have the details at
http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/sane-devel/2008-February/020933.html

So I think that if you want to have your scanner work you need to have
get
SANE's source code, patch and compile it. If you want to do such the outline
is to:
- have a compiler installed (gcc package)
- have the libusb installed with all needed include (often in a
libusb-devel
 package)
- get sane-backends sources from
http://www.sane-project.org/source.html and
unpack them in some directory
- patch the gt68xx.conf.in and gt68xx_devices.c files
- configure and compile the sources
- test it locally before installing in case of success

When can provide you with more guidance if you need.

Stef

Dear
All,

I consider buying a portable scanner, such as
  the
   Fujitsu
ScanSnap S300 or Pentax DSmobile 600. I would
  mainly
   use it
for scanning documents (text).

Would appreciate feedback from users how well
  these
   and
other portable scanners perform under SANE,
  as well as
   any
other helpful tips you may have in choosing
  and using
   a
portable scanner.

   Mike,
For a list of mobile document scanners, see
   http://sites.google.com/site/roadwarriorscanner/.

The Syscan Travelscan 646 is fully supported
  including
calibration. This scanner is no longer
  manufactured, but
used ones come up on ebay periodically.

The scanners that you mention have basic support.
  A
developer is currently working on adding
  calibration support
for the Pentax DS Mobile 600, so hopefully that
  will be
   available soon.
