[Savannah-register-public] [task #10313] Submission of kokla

2010-04-04 Thread irfan

Follow-up Comment #2, task #10313 (project administration):

Hi Alex,

I replied to your email. However, your signature indicated replying to this
page.

I wasn't able to find any licensing information about the NIST documents.
They're in the public domain and available on wikipedia as a link. However,
since there is no information about distribution of these documents I am
willing to have them removed from the submission.

Also the project isn't an official GNU software. I believe I meant to state
that it was GPL license. I think I may have miss understood the meaning behind
GNU software vs. GPL license.

Also the images in the application are taken from the KDE Oxygen theme. I've
managed to find the legal GPL notice for these icons here:
http://www.oxygen-icons.org/?page_id=4

I hope that helps.
Let me know if you have anything else that needs clarifying.

Cheers,

Irfan

Hi Jack,

Welcome again! I hope that this time the project admins can approve your
submission; I will again be reviewing it for them.

There are still a few minor issues with the submission:
* The CHANGELOG now includes the license header, well done! But the README
(and README.html) still don't.
* There are a couple of images which should be listed in the README file
along with author and license information.
* You list this project under "GPLv2", but the LICENSE file and all source
files show GPLv3. This is probably just a mistake.
* You are including in the package both my own eLyXer and wordpresslib.py.
First: I feel honored. Now, there should be no problem with eLyXer since it's
also under the GPLv3, but the license of wordpresslib is GPLv2. Since you are
using both libraries inside LyXBlogger they need to have compatible licenses;
I believe this is the case (wordpresslib can be distributed and used under the
GPLv3 so all three packages should be compatible), but it's a complex issue
and I would like to have a second opinion.
* Something to keep in mind: if you include elyxer.py in your package we
should keep it synchronized so users always get the latest version. This
should not be hard to do since you are subscribed to the eLyXer users list and
new releases are always announced there, but you need to understand and
acknowledge the effort required.

Could you correct these issues (really just the first two) and provide an
updated tarball? Once the licensing for wordpresslib is reviewed I will
recommend its approval. Thanks!

Hi Irfan,

I am reviewing your project as an aspiring administrator, so please excuse
any mistakes I may make in the process.

There are a few issues with your submission:
* You list kokla under "Official GNU software", but I don't think this is the
case. Has it been accepted by the GNU project?
* In doc/ there are a couple of NIST documents. I am sure that you have the
rights to distribute them, but I cannot find any applicable license. The same
goes for images in kgui. All these artifacts should be listed in the README or
similar along with authors and applicable licenses.

Could you clarify or correct these issues so that we can proceed with the
process? Thanks!

[Savannah-register-public] [task #10312] Submission of Self Placed Learning In a Networked Environment

2010-04-04 Thread Alex Fernandez

Follow-up Comment #2, task #10312 (project administration):

Sorry, forgot one:

* You list the project under "Official GNU software", but I don't think this
is the case -- the GNU project must first accept it before it's official.

That's a lot of work! But it's for a good cause: making sure that your
software is usable and modifiable by all interested users. Thanks again!

Hi Kumar,

I am reviewing your submission as an aspiring administrator, so please excuse
any mistakes that I may make in the process.

There are a number of issues with your submission:
* In bin-debug/SplineIcons there are a few images that appear to be
unlicensed.
* As to the rest of the icons and images, it is required that they are listed
(along with authors and applicable licenses) in the README file or elsewhere
in the documentation. This is the only way to make sure that they are legally
included in the package.
* You should add the GPL license header to all files beyond 10 lines, e.g.
bin-debug/SPLINE-app.xml or src/Audio/AudioModel.as. Even if they are part of
the documentation.
* In docs/ you have included the documentation for a lot of adobe classes; I
am not sure that they should be there or that they serve any purpose. Am I
getting it right?
* Likewise for a lot of Adobe classes (e.g. src/com/adobe/utils/DateUtil.as)
which are included in the package. They are not licensed under the GPL or
another GNU-approved license, so I am not sure they should be there. Are they
necessary for this package?
* The readme.txt refers to something called "corelib ActionScript 3 Library",
not to Spline.
* Flex targets the proprietary Flash plugins, but the hosting requirements
 make it necessary to
target a fully free platform. Therefore, could you test Spline against a free
Flash implementation? In order of preference they would be Gnash and swfdec.
They should be listed in the "dependencies" (along with Red5, also in that
section).
* It should also be possible to compile and build Spline on a completely free
system (such as GNU/Linux). Is this at all possible?

Could you answer these questions and upload an updated tarball that corrects
all remaining issues, so we can proceed with the process? Thanks!

[Savannah-register-public] [task #10314] Submission of Indentation statistics tool

2010-04-04 Thread Karl Berry

Follow-up Comment #3, task #10314 (project administration):

Hi Jari,

Regarding the INSTALL file, you could put a single line at the top that
says "This file is public domain. Originally written 2010 Jari Aalto."
The point is not to leave files without any license at all.

Regarding the manual, the FSF's recommendation for such a case is to
dual-license the manual under GPL and FDL. I.e., include a statement
like "This manual is also available under the GNU FDL, version 1.3 or
later" in the generated output. That way, there's no technical
incompatibility with other FDL'd manuals.

Sound ok?

Thanks for all your work over the years,
Karl

[Savannah-register-public] [task #10314] Submission of Indentation statistics tool

2010-04-04 Thread Jari Aalto

Follow-up Comment #2, task #10314 (project administration):

> hPlease add the full GPL header to README and INSTALL files

1) The README is 33 lines long, of which there is this section at the end:

34 Copyright
35
36 Copyright (C) 2009-2010 Jari Aalto
37
38 License
39
40 This program is free software; you can redistribute and/or
modify
41 program under the terms of GNU General Public license either
version 2
42 of the License, or (at your option) any later version.
43
44 End of file

Please elaborate.

2) The INSTALL is 15 lines long. Is it really necessary in this case, when it
only contains text how to run standard Makefile? There is no information that
would not already be available in public.

Please alaborate.

> For manuals, we allow only GNU FDL

3) There is no separate "manual" in the package. The texts in

  doc/manual

are product of Makefile "make doc" (pre-ru) for the archive, not normally
there at all. These are the texts that are embedded in the program Help()
itself. The program is under GPL v2+, and the documentation comments and
Help() in the program, so the extracted portion has text:

perl bin/*.pl --help | tail | nl -ba
 1 Homepage is at http://freshmeat.net/projects/indent-stat
 2
 3 AUTHOR
 4 Copyright (C) 2009-2010 Jari Aalto
 5
 6 LICENSE
7 This program is free software; you can redistribute and/or
modify
8 program under the terms of GNU General Public license either
version 2
9 of the License, or (at your option) any later version.
10

Please elaborate. I can remove the directories doc/ if that is needed. They
are auto-generated by the "make" command which the user runs.

Jari
