RE: [scifinoir2] Re: Twins separated at birth met and married

2008-01-16 Thread Reece Jennings
I totally agree! I thought I was pretty open to other cultures. Then I
drove a busload of
people to Canada. CANADA! Not like it's the biggest cultural challenge, or
so I thought.
I just figured Canada was like northern Maine...!

But I had some trouble with the Metric speed limit signs.

And I embarrassed myself in a coffee shop. I gave the clerk a 10 dollar
bill, and I got back
an American 5 and a bunch of change. I was a little short when I asked
about the other
3 dollars...the clerk gave me 'that look', then pointed out the 2-dollar
coin, and the 1-dollar
coin. I must have looked like I had been caught with toilet paper in my
pants, because she
burst out laughing, as did her 49 coworkers who saw the exchange! I laughed
and apologized,
and left with a whole different perspective on American ego and
ignorance...LOLLOL!!!

I've grown to appreciate perspectives from people who either live in other
countries, or grew up
in other countries. Much freshness, and looks from people who aren't
emotionally attached to
our problems...!

Tracey knows a couple of Africans and West Indians in another group we
belong to, and there are
constant cultural differences presented. Of course there is friction at
times, because there can
be mis-communication. But things are eventually ironed out, and love flows
again...much like
sewage... :o)

I have to thank you as well, Tracy.
When I joined this list it really was for the sci/fi and while I still
like that aspect of the list, I stay because even though I've never
met any of you good people face to face, I feel a kindred with most of
you.
Sometimes I feel left out because of the talk of shows, etc that

Well, they always told me that musicians had it made in the romance department.
Been a guitarist since thirteen. I'm still waiting, myself.

began a search for more siblings, and came up with, at present, 80
