Keith, I'm going to attribute that less to characterization and more to bad

Nah that was NBC with ³Bionic Woman². And then everybody watched -- and it
was rubbish. Remember the huge fall off between episode 1 and 2? A bad show
is a bad show. Terminator is no Bionic Woman.

Re: [scifinoir2] Re: Sarah Connor Chronicles on Tonight

2008-01-15 Thread Daryle

Why people are going crazy over this series:

 1. Summer Glau. She¹s pretty easy on the eyes in this show, I must admit.
 2. The Terminator brand is huge. Everybody loves this story. Even if you
don¹t, you know it by heart. And what ELSE are you gonna watch?
 3. It¹s a better T3 than T3 was. If the show stops at 20 episodes and has
Arnold (or for that matter, Joe Morton in a flashback) in ONE of
them...dude. That would be it. Movie time.

K-Ville was in limbo because of the Strike, but yesterday a lot of shows got
canceled because of the strike. They called it ³Black Monday². Here¹s a
Hollywood Reporter article about it:

³In a clear sign about the future of Fox's "K-Ville" and NBC's "Journeyman"
-- two low-rated 20th TV-produced freshman series whose ultimate fate has
remained in limbo because of the strike -- the studio terminated the overall
deals of "K-Ville" creator/exec producer Jonathan Lisco and co-exec producer
Lawrence Kaplow as well as that of "Journeyman" creator/exec producer Kevin
Falls.²

So I watched the second episode last night and...and so I like Summer Glau
(I already liked her in Firefly) -- but I think this is totally a one season

This show is a hit show, and it was before it even came out. The PROBLEM
with this show? It takes place between movies 2 and 3. And unless you¹re 12
years old and didn¹t grow up with this story, you already know what
happens. Add to this that there will be some serious changing of
storylines It¹s really time to get into the War and tell the story of John
Connor, the leader of the resistance. Watching the fight scenes will be
cool for 12 episodes, I¹m all for it. But THEN what?

Tracey, you need to keep track of the series now. That may end up as a

Re: [scifinoir2] Re: "Sarah Connor Chronicles"

2008-01-14 Thread Tracey de Morsella (formerly Tracey L. Minor)
I said ME. POSSIBLY other viewers. I was not predicting its end. I
was saying I did not know whether I could stick around. It is my
quirk.I have a problem with shows that are too formulaic. For
instance. I like House, but up until this season the same thing every
week, no surprises. Monk the same. most procedural shows - Law and
Orders , CSIs the same. Almost all are hits. But it in is their very
nature to be predictableOver time, I loose interest in them if they
do not find a way to mix it up. So, it is not just genre shows I do
not know how many others have this quirk.

There are fugitive shows that do well too. I think Prison Break still
has good ratings. There was also Farscape which I thought handled the
fugitive theme in very interesting ways. . To me that was another well
done fugitive show that used creative ways to tell the story. The First
Wave was okay, but sometimes I got tired of the fugitive theme - in the
end the writing quality deteriorated and stunt casting with Traci Lords
might have done it in..There was a show last summer called Traveler
where they were on the run. I really liked it. I found the writers had
unique way to keep the viewer's attention. I might have stuck around.
Unfortunately, it did not survive. Regarding The Fugitive and The Hulk.
They were part an era when series had more than four weeks to find an
audience. The Hulk lost me after a while, too. I do not think that
feature is why the series ended though

I actually think Terminator will be an instant hit. Even if it was not
an instant hit, people would likely tune in at least once over the
period they show the available eight episodes because there is nothing
out there as a result of the strike. Since it is well produced and
entertaining, I think most would stick around. Unless it spirals into a
truly bad production like Bionic woman, I do not see why this show would
be cut. I mean, the Reaper is still around. I think it would have
probably not have been cut even if there was no strike.

Exactly, Keith. It's going to wear thin, no doubt. I'll use the show to kill
time on Mondays and little else.

I'll give Sarah Connors a chance. I'm sure i'll watch all the shows they've

My expectations were not high, particularly after the Bionic Woman
reboot disaster. However, I was pleasantly surprised. It was at least
good enough to get my scifi fix. I thought the casting was good. They
acting was not bad. The script was not ridiculous. They even threw in
a few smart remarks reminiscent of Arnold's, "talk to the hand." I know
the actress playing Sarah is no Linda Hamilton, but that was never going
to happen. I remember Linda having the arms of female body builder and
at the time. Maybe the producers did not see that working for the
series. Anyway, the casting of Sarah Connor, was definitely better than
the casting of Jamie Summers. She has a weariness about her that plays
well Picking Summer Glau to Replace Arnold was smart. He can't be
replaced, so throw the audience a wisp of a girl who looks so innocent
as Summer. I will definitely return, but here is how they might loose
me and possibly other viewers. I have little patience for the fugitive
storyline in series. By its very nature the story becomes formulaic.

In a movie it can be exciting. In a series it can become extremely

groundbreaking. Now they are calling it ridiculous.

That's write. Glau--a homegirl, I might add, hailing from Texas--studied ballet
for years. Yeah, it was good, not great, but i'll definitely give it a chance.
I like it better than "Bionic Woman" already!

Well, they did manage to pull it off for a few seasons with The
