Re: [sdre-l]: Live Show Poll
i feel i must respond. you can not see built to spill too many times. cool that you get to talk every once in a while. and i can see him not liking sunny day real estate. not because they aren't good, but because i don't think it's his cup of tea. he seems to me to be an old guy who used to be a stoner in highschool. sunny day real estate appeals to a different crowd. but i must not forget that my opinion is not thew end all. it's good but it ain't the final say. anyone who hasn't should go get the new pornographers. their album is called mass romantic and it should fit right into most of your collections nicely. hi ames. --- Marcella Simon <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > I live in Boise so I'm lucky enough to be able to > chat with Doug Martsch > every once in a great while. Re: [sdre-l]: Live Show Poll
I live in Boise so I'm lucky enough to be able to chat with Doug Martsch every once in a great while. I asked him about a year ago if he liked Sunny Day and he said he didn't. I was pretty suprized to be honest. He didn't really expand at all, he just said he didn't like them. So i guess the whole Jeremy Enigk/Doug Martsch tour won't be happening. Also, for a little opinion, I've seen Sunny Day live 6 times and Built to Spill a TON of times , probably like 10 or 15, and I think that Sunny Day put on a much better show. I love BTS and all, but that's just my opinion. Of course, maybe I've just seen Built To Spill too many times. -M > From: "ernesto che guevara" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Reply-To: ernesto che guevara <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Date: Thu, 25 Jan 2001 14:08:55 -0800 (PST) > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: Re: [sdre-l]: Live Show Poll > > > heavens no. heavens no. BUILT TO SPILL is the best all time live band, if any of you have really seen BUILT TO SPILL live you would know what I'm talking about sunny day real estate is great live but wouldn't it be awsome if Jeremy Enigk and Doug Martsch did a side project together that would be excellent. what do you guys think? __ Do You Yahoo!? RE: [sdre-l]: Live Show Poll
you asked for a response, so i gave one. obviously you either missed my point completely, or chose to ignore it. oh well. sorry i bothered. while i'm in a bitching mood, i hope the rising tide was a kind of "joke," perhaps testing to see how many suckers there are out there. i would be extremely disappointed if they truly believed that the rising tide was their best album. i'm sorry, it just does nothing for me. hopefully sunny day's new record will embrace everything their previous three did, and all that the rising tide didn't: raw fucking energy, pure drive, and wrenching emotion. shit, i hope. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, January 25, 2001 8:46 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]; [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [sdre-l]: Live Show Poll People I don't know about you but i have seen Radiohead twice and they play almost 3 hrs they do like 3 or 4 oncores with each album. the best part is they can pull it off live like they do it on the albums
[sdre-l]: Live Show Poll Results
Well, this poll really did make the time at work go by much quicker. I might have to do another poll one day. Here are the results for what you thought were the best live bands... 1. At the Drive-In (8 votes) 2. Radiohead (7 votes) 3. Modest Mouse (6 votes) 4. Tool and Pink Floyd (each had 4 votes) 5. Jane's Addiction, No Knife, Peal Jam, Flaming Lips (each had 3 votes) 6. Mineral, Joan of Arc, Rocket from the Crypt, Smashing Pumpkins, Rage Against the Machine, Deftones, Elliott, Hum, Social Distortion, Fugazi, Godspeed You Black Emporer, Juno, Built to Spill, Pedro the Lion, U2, Violent Femmes, Hot Water Music (each had 2 votes) 7. There were a million responses that had only one vote, and if my hands didn't hurt from typing what I already have, then I would probably put them on here. Ok, probably not. Some interesting responses were...Michael Jackson, Billy Ocean, PJ Harvey, Slayer, GWAR, Rod Stewart, Yanni, and yes... David Hasselhoff. Well, I'm sure that ol' David H. puts on an excellent show, but that's it for now. So if anyone else wants to make fun of David Hasselhoff and Yanni, feel free to, because I know I will. Heh. Later on. wes my band, proculture, website is...http://www.angelfire.com/rock/proculture...so check it out if you get bored. Peace.
Re: [sdre-l]: Live Show Poll
I would have to argue that, out of the bands that I've seen live, Pink Floyd would be the best touring band as far as the show itself. The Wall tour was by far, one of the greatest tours ever. The way that they combined together the show and the music into a story was unbelievable. I don't mean to subtract from Radiohead or Sunny Day Real Estate. Their live shows are in a completely different genre almost. Although, as a side note, I love what Radiohead did with Kid A. That album was very Pink Floyd'ish in how the story of the album evolved. And I can't wait until I hear SDRE's new album since they have been saying that it's going to be much more story driven as well. I'm very interested how Dan Hoerner and Jeremy Enigk's talents come out in that form. So my list of greatest live bands would have Pink Floyd at the top of the list. Radiohead would be up there if the list were to be purely modern bands. I love Sunny Day Real Estate shows not because of the show itself, but because of the sweat and tears that Dan, Jeremy and Will put into the music. It's not often that you see a band that cares so much about their music, especially in this world of one-hit wonder fame mongers that usurp the airwaves. There's my .02. RE: [sdre-l]: Live Show Poll
although radiohead are my favorite band, and are spectacular live, i find your claim a tad hasty. i can't for the life of me see how you can make a statement claiming radiohead to be the "best all time live band," while i can be fairly confident in assuming you never saw led zeppelin or pink floyd in their prime. or many other bands for that matter. bands that actually put on a show, rather than just playing an hour and a half of songs. don't get me wrong, i love sunny day and radiohead. i've seen both live a number of times, and they've blown me away each and every time. it just seems to me that the live experience now is not quite what it was back then. so perhaps you need to rethink your statement. or maybe you don't. its up to you. good day. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, January 23, 2001 11:12 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]; [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [sdre-l]: Live Show Poll bullshit RADIOHEAD is the best all time live band, if any of u have really seen them live you would know what I'm talking about SDRE great live but wouldn't it be awsome if Jeremy Enigk and Thom Yorke did a side project together that would be the shit. thoughts on this

[sdre-l]: Live Show Poll
I'm really not into doing polls or anything, but sometimes I get so bored at work that I need to do something to occupy my time. So I decided to do a poll that really isn't even related to SDRE so I apologize ahead of time... "What are the best live bands besides Sunny Day?" I mean, SDRE is the best live band, but aside from that. Base your decisions primarily by the quality of music played, not by the lights shows, flames out of the ground, etc. Send the responses to me. Peace out. wes
