Yep I would, especially since they are the same as 87 CSX grills. Once
thing I would suggest when looking for market, drop a line in the SDAC
newsletter to gather up those folks who not Internet-aware.

Re: SD csx grille reproductions

2004-12-01 Thread David Salamone
would anyone be interested in reproduction 88 csx grilles in fiberglass?

There would be a significant demand them if they were priced on a reasonable
level. The challenge is that they are an intricate design with small thin
sections along the headlight buckets that most likely couldn't be replicated
in fiberglass.

The original grilles are made from injection molded plastic. The same
project has been brought up before but I haven't seen any results from any
others so far.

Actually I'm in need of one myself for my 1987 CSX #172, but for now I'd be
happy to find one that's heavily damaged on the passenger side so I can
experiment on fusing it together with my original one that has driver's side
damage. Anyone got one?

SD stability at speed

2004-12-01 Thread Marc Medina
Well, my engine swap is done now, it's broken in, the suspension is (almost)
completely re-built (still want to get the polybushings for the rear axle),
but the car just is not stable like I feel it should be. I know that the front
struts are not able to keep up with the MP Autocross springs (it's kinda
bouncy), but the directional stability just isn't there. I have swapped in
cast control arms from a later model AA body with poly bushings and new ball
joints, MP struts and Autocross springs, a Quickor 1 1/4 end link style sway
bar, a new quick ratio rack with new tie rod ends, Formula GP rear shocks and
MP Autocross rear springs. You can see from the pics on my site how much lower
it sits compared to stock.
I had it aligned recently and it came out with -.2 degrees of camber in front
(-.5 in the rear) and 2.9 (left) and 2.4 (right) degrees of positive camber.
The toe is slightly negative, but I don't remember the number.
Problem is the car just seems to want to hunt at just about any speed. Now
that I can shoot from 70 to 110 mpg with almost no effort (and in a very short
space) I've found that even at 100, I'm constantly correcting to keep the car
going straight. Minor corrections, but just not how I thought (or think) it
should drive.
I'm wondering what the rest of you are doing suspension wise to make the cars
more stable.
Thanks,
Marc Medina

Are the steering rack mounting bolts tight?

BTW, wide tires will hunt and follow grooves in the road to a certain
extent.

BTW, the Spirit ES and R/T used the same body parts down to the ground
effects. The differences are in the detailing (colors, badging, etc)

He has the MP Lowering springs, which raise the spring rate and lowers
the car.

As Dave and Stefan already said, tires can play a big part in how the
car handles at speed, but also don't overlook the importance of
controlling the airflow underneath your car. You want to make sure
there is a low pressure area underneath and the easiest way to do that
is to give the air a narrower slot under the car to pass through so that
its velocity increases.

I'm not sure what type of ground effects Spirit ES' came with, but you
might want to look into a front air dam that is lower to the ground. I
know some people have used ones off of other vehicles like S10 pickups
on G-bodies. Keep in mind I'm talking about the lower air dam that is
generally hidden from view, not tacking a S10 front clip on your Spirit
:) LOL

You might also want to look into getting some side skirts that are lower
as well. I'm not sure if the Spirit R/T got different ones or not --
something to look into anyways.
Lowering your car also goes a long way to controlling the airflow but as
you said, you've already taken care of that.

Swap in some Koni's and things get very surefooted at high speeds..
My GLHS was stable till about 135... but the car could go quite a bit more,
possibly 145.., its just that the sunroof and door glass made a suction
sound at about 135 and that would really screw with my ears..
