Man, wish I had known that a few years ago when I was trying to put an 87
tranny in an 85 Laser. Wound up buyin a tranny from an Omni, it was geared too
high for the heavy car, sucked. Got it down the road though. Let us know what
you find out about its availability. Thanks!

Joey Dalton

I think I finally found what I am looking for. I called Dodge this
morning, and they told me that in 1986, the TBI cars still had 6 bolt
crank, but used a 4 bolt converter on the trannies. Hopefully, they can
still get them now, or I can find one somewhere. Just thought I would
let you guys know in case there is someone else out there that need to
put a newer auto tranny in an older 6 bolt car.

Re: SD> Auto Conversion/WTB

2005-04-04 Thread Mike Fisher
I am currently in the process of converting my 85 SC to an auto too, but
I have the problem with having a 6 bolt crankshaft. With an 8 bolt like
you have, it should be no problem to put any a413 lockup or non-lockup
tranny later then an 85 (85 and older have 3 bolt converters and
different splines on the converter and pump) in it. If you get one
newer then an 89 (and correct me if I am wrong guys), you will need the
larger axle shafts from a 90-up Omni. Also, if you put in a lockup
tranny, you will have to wire it up to turn it on while at crusing
speed, or build a circuit like I am currently trying to figure out to do
it automatically. The rest of this I am still trying to figure out
myself. Good luck!

SD> 89 Shadow window off track

2005-04-04 Thread amoparx
Hi All,

I'm trying to fix my Moms drivers door window. It's an 89, 2dr Shadow.
There's a piece of plastic that's riveted to the top/back of the glass. This
piece rides on some sort of track on the back side of the frame around the
glass. The plastic is broken. I'm not sure what it's supposed to look like.
The track seems to be in bad shape also. Has anyone ever fixed something like
this. I've never seen anything like it. Can the piece be purchased new? Can
a replacement be pulled easily off a junk car? It almost looks easier to just
put a different door on it. It looks as though just adding the piece of
plastic might not do the trick and may break again do to the track being
broken. Or at least, in rough shape.
Anyone have any ideas what I can do?

2005-04-04 Thread Moparmat2000
hi cliff
i am not saying the matco / miller brand tool isnt worth the cash. i am sure
it is, but to most SDrs who do this as a hobby and NOT for a living its not
worth the cash spent. i currently spin wrenches on aircraft for a living, so i
know the value in having good tools for your rollaway or tool box at work. cars
are just a hobby for me, and i suspect for most SDrs on this list as well. i
used to be ASE certified and worked as a chrysler dealer tech in the late 80s
myself. got tired of working on everybody elses broke and dirty crap. point is
this tool i came up with is NOT intended for the master tech who buys off the
snap on or matco truck, and who may use it every day of the week. its
designed for the DIYer who will use it mebbe a few times a year, and dont want
to or
need to spend the big cash for a specialty tool that does only one job. at
least this will fit with a standard harmonic balancer puller kit that most of
us
already have in our home tool boxes. this thing is made from 1/2" steel plate.
i havent bent or broke mine yet. you must remember most of the SD crowd are
DIYers. and as such dont feel the need to spend big bux on this type of tool. i
think most of them would agree with me on this matter. i would give my matco
guy a call about this miller tool but i have already found a solution to my
dilemma that works well for me.

BTW if you want to reply to this i would appreciate it if we continue our
conversation off the list as i really dont want to piss ol dennis off.

RE: SD> 1987 Shelby Lancer Question

2005-04-04 Thread Mullikin, Stefan P
Actually I think the Daytona held that honor until the Lebaron coupe
came along in 87. The Lancer/Lebaron GTS are great highway cars, with
lots of room and nice styling. The parts interchange is great and you
end up with a car that's a little different from the usual Shadow, Omni,
Charger, Daytona that is usually picked for project cardom.

$350 for a Shelby Lancer is a great deal, especially if all of the
shelby-specific items are intact.

Hey I have seen this before a few times mostly on Turbo Camero SS's those
engine are so tight that u have to drop the engine out from the bottum so
any turbo kit has to be added back there just no possable room under
hood, and it does cuase alot of lag, but the turbo getrs really cold air
and is kept cool. it is not really as good to much travel, but if u have
no were else to stick a turbo then that is the way, Rear Mounted Turbo is
better then no turbo.

SD> Spirit R/T for sale

2005-04-04 Thread Mike Buczkowski
Sorry about the delay. I was not expecting the response I got, and like
I said, I don't really want to completely destroy a number car. I'm
going to try to sell it in one piece first. This car could be put back
together pretty easily. The only things I have taken are the short
block, the transmission, the clutch, driveshaves, fuel injectors,
exhaust, and the throttle body everything else goes. All the parts are
in very good condition. Everything has been gone though, rebuilt,
reconditioned, and repainted, except the stock turbo, it needs rebuilt.
I'm working on getting some pictures available to everyone. It has some
minor mods, the stage 4 calibration with a 3 bar map stays, you also
need +40% injectors for this computer, solid front engine mount, some
mild port work on the exhaust manifold and the walbro 255 l/hr fuel
pump. If you wanted it would be very easy to set it up stock too, I
have everything to chang it back, except fuel injectors, and it would be
almost no additional work. The stock fuel injectors were not working
when I bought the car and were rusted. I have all the receipts for
everything I did to this car or bought for this car. I live in Toledo,
OH 43615 and for a few additional dollars I'll deliver the car within
300 miles. I would like $2800 OR BEST OFFER.

I've also received some questions about my CSX-T. It's an 88 #555. I
bought it last fall from a friend in Toledo that is helping me with the
hybrid setup. He bought it form Florida a while ago and sold in to some
one in Fermont, OH, i believe. He took the car apart and prepped it for
paint and i guess it sat for alittle while and my friend bought it back
in pieces. It did not have the right engine in it when i bought it, so
I just bought the rolling chassis and it's getting the hybrid T-III
engine we are working on, and an auto trans with a manual value body.
The body on this car is like none other I've seen living in the rust
belt, not even a small dent.

Mike

Mat,
It's not a Matco tool, it's a Miller/SPX tool that I said my Matco dealer can
get instead of going thru the dealer channels for Miller/SPX tools.

The Miller tool can take a beating, continues use over and over. I still have
the original 4 bolt tool from '81 when it was released to the first dealer I
worked for (they went out of business and allowed us to buy the tools when we
left) and it still works great. I bought the 5 bolt tool in '88 and still use
it today. Maybe the cost for some isn't worth the investment but when you need
it, it's there every time without fail.

Have your Matco guy give you a price on it.

Mat,
You know that Miller tools has the tool available. The original tool for the
4 bolt sprocket was C-4685 and there is a revised package that comes with
the new tool C-4685-B1 and a complete kit that has the puller, bolts, the
insert
that drops into the crank hole so you don't bugger up the nose of the crank.

My local Matco tool guy gets Miller/SPX tools, no problem.

Wow, that's great to know! You should post this to the Team Omni list too.
Thanks,

I think I finally found what I am looking for. I called Dodge this
morning, and they told me that in 1986, the TBI cars still had 6 bolt
crank, but used a 4 bolt converter on the trannies. Hopefully, they can
still get them now, or I can find one somewhere. Just thought I would
let you guys know in case there is someone else out there that need to
put a newer auto tranny in an older 6 bolt car.

SD> Summer Time is Coming

2005-04-04 Thread Brian R. Downard Sr.
Now that summer time is just around the corner. I am going to be able to
work on my 1987 Dodge Shelby Charger GLH-S #324. I want this car to be a
show car. I don't think that it will be ready for show this year, but I want
to start working on it for next year. The reason that I am sending this to
the mailing list is to find out where I can find every single part available
for my car. If there is anyone on here that would know, which I am sure that
there is. For example the gray part that goes around the automobile. Most of
them have been torn or worn off the 1987 dodge Shelby chargers. I want to
put mine back if I can find one at a decent price, but how decent is decent
when it comes to my baby. HAHAHA' There are so many things that I want to do
to the car. I just don't know where to start. I would say that the car is
about 80% original. That is good for a 1987 automobile. Well, I can go on
and on about the car, but I know that a lot of people out there know what I
mean when I say I love my GLH-S.

So, if there are some really good parts places that I can go and look
online. Please people clue me in that would be great. Thanks.

Sincerely;
Brian R. Downard Sr.
