I second this, and also recommend a large oil to air cooler. Might also
switch to a different oil. I used Shell Rotella T (15w40) oil for diesel
equipment, and noticed lower temps, and more stable oil pressure than
Mobil 1 (any flavor) in hot weather. It will need to be changed at or
before 3000 miles, where you might get away with more miles with M1.

I would also drain the anti-freeze and replace it with as much straight
water as possible, adding a bottle of Redline Water Wetter. That should help
drop the temps considerably.

Maybe vent the hood behind the radiator to give the air a place to go
instead of into the front the engine block?

Just get an early Daytona hood vent and place it between the radiator
and the engine. Install it such that the vanes are pointed towards the
rear of the car.

One problem with my big ol cummins intercooler--it blocks all sorts of
airflow to the radiator so I'm running pretty hot down the open
highway--probably 230 degrees or so. And its only been to like 85
degrees this year. Its undoubtedly gonna run even hotter if it makes it
to 100. The radiator is brand new. I currently don't have an A/C
condensor either. I have a perfect 50/50 distilled water/antifreeze
mix. Removal of the intercooler drops the temps to where they should
be, so there's no doubt in my mind that this is causing the problem.

The intercooler is 12" high and goes from bumper mount to bumper mount.
Pictures are available at http://www.pbase.com/rmscott/paul_standaert.
Can anyone formulate me a plan to keep things cooled off in there?
Currently, the top of the intercooler is tipped towards the radiator a
few degrees. I think that if I align it properly, it should help, but
not that much. Another plan was to install an air dam of sorts from the
bottom of the radiator to the rubbery plastic piece that hangs directly
below the radiator to keep airflow going through there? ideas?

Car is a '92 Daytona ES.

Re: SD> Overheating with front mount intercooler

2005-06-12 Thread Eric .
try to place the airdam BETWEEN the IC and rad. a 1/2" to 1" in
between is good, and then the spoiler can deflect the air to the Rad
directly. The IC will get it's air, don't worry

I would make sure you have some space between the rad and IC, and try to put
an air dam below the radiator. This will help pull air up through the
radiator. You could also try running the electric fan all the time (but i
doubt this would help at high way speeds.

The radiator is brand new. I currently don't have an A/C condensor either.
I have a perfect 50/50 distilled water/antifreeze mix. Removal of the
intercooler drops the temps to where they should be, so there's no doubt in

anyone formulate me a plan to keep things cooled off in there? Currently,
the top of the intercooler is tipped towards the radiator a few degrees. I
think that if I align it properly, it should help, but not that much.
