Re: SD shelby wheels on volvo hot rod on Ebay
I had 15 spoke Shelby wheels on my 1981 Dodge Van, 15x8 rims. 15 thin machined aluminum spokes with rough cast in between them. I painted the rough cast the same color as the body of the van. - Original Message - From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, March 13, 2007 3:57 PM Subject: Re: SD shelby wheels on volvo hot rod on Ebay I recentally saw some wheels on a Monte Carlo that had Shelby center caps.. RE: SD shelby wheels on volvo hot rod on Ebay
Shelby Wheels offered wheels for just about every make and model many years ago. I don't know why, but I have mostly seen their wheels on Volvo's over the years. They are probably real Shelby wheels, but not from a Shelby Dodge. Shelby Wheels offered wheels for just about every make and model many years ago. I don't know why, but I have mostly seen their wheels on Volvo's over the years. They are probably real Shelby wheels, but not from a Shelby Dodge. Exactly, these must have been one of his earlier styles from his wheel company. The CSS rim (as in the lace wheel used on the 1987 Shelby Lancer) was used quite heavily in a smaller size as a popular dealership upgrade wheel on some Japanese imports during the late 1980's. I think it was Nissan or Toyota. I still see them all the time around town. They have the same somewhat unique lace design but with smaller center caps. A few months back I was at a small used car dealership when I spotted an older import (maybe a Camry) that was wearing a set of painted Lemans wheels (as in the style used on the 1988 CSX-T). Sadly, they were in a smaller size (14) and the bolt pattern was incompatible with Dodge. And even worse off they were missing all four center caps. I thought if they could fit, they would look great on a trailer, though. When you look at the box carefully, you can see that the Lancer Wheels look-alikes are actually 4 lug too. That is a design I never saw. - Original Message - From: chryguy [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: shelby-dodge@sdml.org Robert, I too thought the wheel on the box looked like a Lancer wheel... I also have a brand new set just like that complete with hub caps and lug nuts. I bought them many years ago because I thought they were really cool. I'll probably never user these wheels and am tired of stepping over them. If you are interested in a set please let me know! I'd bet those are for a Pinto, or Vega. I know the Vegas (H body) and the HS body (Monza,Sunbird,Starfire,Skyhawk) had 4x4 pattern. But the offset looks like a FWD application. I have heard of people using 4x4 on 4x100mm. but I NEVER would. The custom wheels I had on my 1980 Sunbird had oval offset washers and slotted holes in the rim, so they would work with 100mm or 4. What is weird is that they are standard patterened wheels, but he has metric lugnuts. Back then I would assume that anything US would have had standard studs. ---REMOVE-FOOTER-WHEN-REPLYING Questions? Visit http://www.sdml.org/ To be removed, visit http://www.sdml.org/pages/leave.html
