Thanks everyone, I've gotten a lot of responses I'll start looking for bad  
check valve's and leaks

I got your message the first time you sent it.  It should be obvious  you 
are loosing vacuum to the HVAC controller.  As you loose vacuum the  system 
goes into default and stitches back to your setting when vacuum  returns. I 
think you're going to find a bad check valve and/or vacuum leaks of  some 
sort in the HVAC system.

The Shelby Lancer is again running GREAT, but I'm in need of a part number. 
 I'm looking for the rubber piece that slides on the back of the valve 
cover that  holds the PCV valve. It cracked when I pulled it off. The last one 
I 
got was  from the dealer years and years ago, so maybe someone has a sub 
(Dorman HELP) or  maybe the dealer still has it.

Well the rocker bit the dust ( it must have been flying around the  valve  
cover) so I pulled one from my other engine but it is a  stamped one and 
the 
one  in the car is a cast kind, does it matter if  its cast or stamped?

Hi All
I need to redo my vacuum lines on the Shelby Lancer. I do have a Dodge vac. 
 adapter that has 4 hose's coming out of it that you slide 1/8  hose on. 
and the main hook up goes in the stock location on the intake  by the 
firewall. but was thinking of getting a vac. block. anyone have  any pic's of 
there 
setup's? what type of tubing is used? and I think there  is some of the 
lines have a pin hole connecter (or whatever its called) to speed  up the 
vacuum. looking to do nice clean setup.

Its funny when I first got the Lancer it had an external reg. and me, being 
 me, put it back to stock wiring, that's when I found out it had a bad PM,  
that was the first of many PM's being replaced. LOL

the voltage regulator and in turn fry something else.  I installed  an
external voltage regulator ( box I had lying around from a 70's mopar)  and
wired it into the power module and haven't had a problem in 5  years.

I had AAA tow it home at midnight and this morning I changed out the  Power 
Module out of my GLHS and the Lancer started right up. This  lancer burns 
up PM's I think this is the 2nd or 3rd one I've put in it.

I'm at work but I went out to the car and did this test and NO it  didn't 
start with out pressing the gas pedal with the old regulator I never had  
this problem in fact I could start the car standing outside with my arm through 
 the window, but sometimes it would run rough till I pressed the gas pedal 
and  rev it up some. Now, If I turned the car off and tried to restart it, 
it  will start without and gas pedal action. so now it might be a leaky 
injector?

Hi All
As you know I failed the smog test, so I did a tune up and I must say the  
Shelby Lancer now runs REALLY GOOD!! the best in years. I have not  retested 
it yet, and hope it passes. Before the plugs,cap, rotor, wires, and  "used" 
(taken from my GLHS when I add a adjustable one to the GLHS) fuel  
regulator was put in, the car would start by just turning the key, now I need 
to  
petal the gas petal if you know what I mean. I can hear the fuel pump  prime 
like it always had, but I need to pump the gas petal to get it to  start. any 
ideas? somehow I think its the fuel regulator not holding the presser  when 
the car is turned off.

Hi All
I failed the emission test for Albuquerque, the HC's are just a little too  
high at idle. I have noticed that my rich lean gauge rides 1-2 bars above 
center  at idle. After the test I changed the plug's, wire's, cap, rotor, I'm 
going to  do a oil change next (it needed all this stuff anyway, I've been 
lazy and just  letting it go) . I did switch out the fuel presser regulator 
with a used  one I had and that seem to help a bit watching the R/L gauge 
now it just  flutters above center. I was thinking if the regulator was making 
it  rich at idle I would need to put some miles on the car to burn out all 
the  unburned fuel and watch the R/L gauge.  I have not tested again (first  
test 20 bucks, retest 10 bucks) but thought I would see if anyone had any 
words  of wisdom. 
The car is the Shelby Lancer it has about 80,000 on a rebuilt 2.2.

in Shelby land know any tricks or tips. I picked up new bearing and hub  
combo kits. Autozone will lend me a bearing puller with a slide hammer is this

I've had it happen with a bad inside the kick panel computer also. I have  
one now that if I put it in the Shelby Lancer it will peg the volt meter and 
if  I switch it with the MP computer (that's the only replacement I could 
find) it  charge's normally. I too had a the old type regulator (and it 
worked fine) but  i  wanted the stock look under the hood.

I think 1/2 is controlled with the inside computer and 1/2 with the power  
module under the hood. I can't tell you which one it can be. On my Shelby 
Lancer  I had to replace both to get the volts down.

The Lancer has a PM under the hood and a CPU in the kick panel. I replaced  
the PM because it had a regulator problem a 2 years ago. That thing  could 
be getting overheated also with it drawing lots of current for the  A/C.

The fuel pump is 4 years old it is a replacement I bought from Chrysler new 
 (it said V6 fuel pump on the box) but there is a lot of pressure when I 
take off  the gas cap. That's one of the things I tried when it died.  I'm not 
sure  about the canister I don't how to check or test it. The gas tank has 
lots o  pressure. My coil has a dent from when I put the engine in so I 
thought of that  also. I think I'll pick one up on the way home today, if I 
make 
it home.  LOL

Wondering if the pump is failing or if the  fuel tank is not venting 
properly.

A quick test would be to cycle the  key a few times until the pump won't 
prime any more and try a restart.   That will tell you that it is a fuel flow 
issue from an overheating pump or a  vapor lock issue.

Another thought would be that the coil is getting  warm and failing.

I fought a similar problem in my old Daytona.   Had to go through every 
connector under the hood and pull the power module to  fix the grounds tucked 
away in there.  Swapped the MAP, TPS, HEP,  etc.

Had a fuel pump fail in that car before that though, that was  pretty 
obvious since the pump wouldn't prime with the key in the run position  and I 
had 
no codes.

Had another car have a similar issue to yours, but  it only did it once 
when the rubber feed line broke as I pulled into the  parking lot at work.  
That could have been much more exciting since I had  a huge puddle of gas 
building under the front of the car very  quickly.

it got me to work today.

When it dies it does still crank and sometimes runs very bad but will  not 
drive. It won't rev it coughs then dies again.

ago)  I had it towed home when it got there it started, I didn't do anything to

till  it cooled about an hour and I did change the Hall thing in the dist. 
(I  carry a spair) it started and I drove home. It took sometime before it  
would drive, missing with the gas pedal  its like no fuel or bad  spark.

3 places) all said it was OK. I put it back and then changed the power  
module with the one out of the GLHS still not charging. I don't have an  extra

When I installed the engine I cleaned the TB but the leaky injector is

SD> rough starting

Hi All
My 87 Shelby lancer has this problem  when starting it fires  right up but 
idles rough till I rev the gas petal or start to drive off and  give it gas. 
The 
engine is a stock MOPAR replacement I installed  30,000 miles ago with an MP 
computer (the Shelby computer had a  problem with the charging circuit) It has 
had this problem for a long time and I  just lived with it.
Any ideas?

when I was replacing the fuel pump I noticed one of my rear shocks was  
leaking. So whats a good replacement. KYB, high end Monroes etc. I've had good  
luck with the KYB's on other cars.

Hi All
I installed a NEW Dodge fuel pump and the Shelby Lancer starts  right up. 
When I pulled  the old one (1 month) the red wire looked all  black I think I 
got 
a bad  Walbro pump maybe it shorted out. I will  send it back and have it 
tested.

Today I hear the pump prime of at the least make noise when the key was  
turned. But still no pressure at the rail.

I used the hose that came with the pump kit. I can't hear any noise but  then 
on this car someone needs to put an ear to the tank when the key is turned  
to hear anything.

Hi All
I just replaced my fuel pump (about mid Feb) with a walbro 255 and now the  
car (87 Shelby Lancer) has no fuel pressure. I got it towed home and  the only 
thing I checked was to see if there's pressure at the rail, none. This  is the 
same thing that happened a month ago when I installed the new  one. I guess 
the new one could have gone bad also. 
Any thoughts?

Hi All
OK that was the simplest pump install I ever had (87 shelby lancer)!!! but  I 
misplaced the Dodge sock for the end of the pump and installed it with the  
supplied Ford one, I hope that will not be a problem. It all went back nicely.  
And after it was all done I found the dodge sock.
do you think it will cause a problem?

Hi All
Now that the Lancer needs a fuel pump (got it, but no time to put it  in) 
I've been driving the 86 GLHS and that jogged my memory about a miis  that 
happens just about 2500 rpms  Its had this mis for as long as I can  remember. 
I've 
added a MP computer, it had a wrong computer (T1)when i got the  car, its a 
long story for some other day, I'm the second owner. it has a small  random 
jerk 
almost a pop when cruising at 2500 rpm. new plugs, wires,cap, rotor, 
Anyone?

pressure. What is the benefit of a Walbro high pressure fuel pump  compared

Hi All
No codes but the 55.
When the key is turned I get a click (sounds like a rely somewhere under  the 
hood) but don't here the pump prime then I turn the key back off and on  
again then about the third time of off and on I can hear the very faint pump  
come 
on for a second or two. This is all without going into the starter  circuit.
I changed the HEP and that didn't do a thing. so tonight I'll put a presser  
gauge on the fuel rail and see what I get.

Hi all
The 87 Shelby Lancer got towed home yesterday. It cranks and wants to start  
and sometimes does start but won't keep running. When the tow truck dropped 
the  car, it started and I drove in my garage? Then it wouldn't start till I 
tried  today, then it ran for about 3 min. and died. I was thinking it was the 
fuel  pump when I pushed the little valve on the fuel rail the gas just dripped 
out.  Will the rail hold presser when the car is off? Other then that it could 
be the  HAL in the dist. Any help will be welcome.

I was at Walmart and bought a new magazine. I don't have it in front of me  
right now but I think it was just called SHELBY  "now and then" on the  cover 
is the new Mustang as I was in line I flipped through it, it did mention  
Shelby Dodges but was mostly Ford stuff. Its something to look for on the

Here's one of many answers. I looked and looked can't find the plug. In the  
manual it shows it following  the center console wiring but looking at my  car 
there is no wiring following or taped to the console wiring. it must have  
been deleted.

I picked up a travel computer out of a Lancer thinking the wiring  plug would 
be just hanging behind the storage box on the Shelby Lancer but  n I 
can't seem to find it anywhere. Did dodge use different wiring for  models that

Someone backed into my Shelby Lancer couple of weeks ago and busted  the tail 
light so I post a WTB and my post bounced. I did find one but  would been a 
lot easier on the list. We need to keep this list going so Shelby  Dodges don't
