Only Place is still pretty good. So is Millers 46. Shezan does sell some excellent raw beef though. Perfect for home grilling. As for Koshy's, I'm still a fan. Though I can't say really why... On another note, hello all! I'm not sure what the accepted norm for self-introductions are but here goes. 27, from (and in) Bangalore, studied law, bored intellectual property lawyer, work in the processed food industry now, love the work, interested in technology, Apple fanboy (embarrassingly so), compulsive restaurant diner, blogger (http://doesthisthat.blogspot.com/ and http://linkyslove.blogspot.com/ ) and general goof-ball. I look for good food and service (and if it's high-priced, ambience too), and the rest is of little use. The "old" part of Koshy's is always noisy and smoky, and looks like it was last cleaned in the 1950s. Heck, even the "new" air-conditioned part looks neglected. When I went there a month ago, the sofas were caked with dirt, which didn't inspire too much confidence. As for the food, I don't think that I've ever had anything there that made me want to go back and have it again. The only think half decent there was the prawn curry and rice (though it always needs a good shake of salt.) > Aditya Kapil wrote: Ever tried the fillet mignon at Sunny's. They understand 'rare'. I'm not sure if it's the best place for steak, but I like Herbs and Spice in Indira Nagar. Re: [silk] Koshy's not 'old Bangalore' just 'old'
The new Only Place is pretty average. I don't think their food has deteriorated -- just that my standards have gone up as better Restaurants have opened in Bangalore. On the other hand, The Only Place's prices have not kept pace with inflation, so they've become far better value for money than they used to be. -- b On 09/01/07, Aditya Kapil <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: Ever tried the fillet mignon at Sunny's. Someone in the comments mentioned MTR as a better example, but having discovered a full- bodied cockroach in the sambar at the Rajajinagar outlet once, I want to have nothing to do with that place either. I remember reading somewhere that there was a split in the family, and that one part runs the food processing unit and chain restaurants and the other runs the original place on Lal Bagh Fort Rd. -- b

I remember a time around 2000 when I ordered breakfast there. Wanted an omelet. There's various omelets for around 35..40 rupees each. So the waiter suggests that I try a spanish omelet, which isn't on the menu, but what the hell, it should be priced similarly is what I figured, and ordered it. One omelet (which didn't exactly make me go Ole') later, the bill arrives .. Rs.120 or something like that. They really do love to stiff their customers, don't they? I rarely if ever go to Koshy's these days if I'm in bangalore. If I want non vegetarian food there's the ever present Imperial, or that tiny hole in the wall mallu joint right next to the MG road signal (forgot what it was called but open at all hours of the day or night) srs
