OK, I've decided that maybe buying a generator is much simpler and faster than

object to filling up the world's landfills with 9 volt batteries.

RE: CS>Oxygen, Burn or Explode?

2003-04-15 Thread Wetterauer, Letitia [MWPS]
I had a wonderful college instructor who told some terrible stories about burns
people received from fooling around with pure oxygen. I meant burn. Oxygen is
sort of like fuel that will allow generally inflammable substances to burn. The
situations that are most risky are doing things like spraying pure oxygen in
your face, on your clothing, or hair or allowing it to build up in any
significant concentration in a confined area where there is anything remotely
able to burn. For example a common one done with hair, is that welders might
dust it with a blast of compressed oxygen and then get a static charge. It will
ignite their hair and anything that has been covered with the oxygen nearby
(skin) and it will burn fiercely. I suppose you could get an explosion
depending on how flammable the substance that was in the presence of the pure
oxygen was.

The trick is, don't let it get concentrated anywhere except maybe up your nose.
Pure oxygen is very oxidizing and can actually damage the lungs in too high a
concentration.

CS>Tests for Celiac disease

2003-04-15 Thread Wetterauer, Letitia [MWPS]
There is a simple blood test that is about 90% effective in detecting it. The
supposedly definitive test is one where a scope is put down into the stomach
and the upper part of the small intestines. They are examined for the classic
celiac deterioration. This test is considered the true test, however, celiac
disease doesn't always damage every square inch of the digestive tract. So, if
they sample in a healthy place and there is nothing there, it'll be missed.
Also, diagnosis is determined by a lab interpretation of a sample. There is
definitely room for error there. There is a wide variety of severity of the
disease, too, complicating the chances of finding it with the scope. My opinion
is that this test just makes specialists a lot of money and that is why they
like it. What is said to happen with celiac disease is that gliadin, a
substance found in the gluten protein of wheat and other grains, causes an
immune response that destroys the lining of the digestive tract where it comes
in contact with it. Once
the delicate villae and lining cells are damaged, they allow undigested larger
proteins and food substances across into the blood. This causes the body to
mount an immune response. The result is eventual development of other
allergies, lowered immune function, and possibly development of autoimmune
diseases and reproductive problems. Also, the person is just generally less
healthy because it is draining the system and preventing uptake of nutrients
and protein, since their uptake is dependent on having healthy microbial life
and no inflammation.

There are other specialists who have written that celiac disease is really a
consequence of a condition called Leaky Gut. They say that the wheat allergy
occurs when damage to the gut allows the gliadin into the blood causing an
immune reaction. Leaky gut can be caused by many things, one important cause is
antibiotic use which disturbs natural gut flora allowing yeast to get control
and altering the health of the lining. Also, mercury toxicity is another
trigger. The way that leaky gut may cause bladder problems is by partially
digested larger molecules from the digestive tract getting into the blood.
These molecules and the waste products from the immune response must then be
removed by the liver and the kidney/bladder system. So, essentially, the person
is getting a concentration of toxins in the bladder and perhaps having a
further immune response to them leading to more bladder inflammation. In such
people the immune systems are overburdened so then they become more susceptible
to pathogens that natura
lly occur and they can't fight them off very well.

A really good book discussing this topic and one that claims to offer a cure is
Elaine Gothchall's "Breaking the Vicious Cycle" Also, check into the Paleo Diet
and the Whole Foods Diet. Elaine Gothchall's daughter was stricken with a
terrible digestive illness and was cured with the Specific Carbohydrate Diet
promoted in the book. She is now a totally healthy adult. The author claims
that celiac disease can be cured through proper diet for a year or so that
heals up the lining of the digestive tract. I have been on this diet for about
8 months and have lost most of my food allergies that I developed from the
celiac disease. I still cannot eat wheat or I still am afraid to eat it so
don't know. It's a small price to pay for staying healthy.

CS>Possible cause of recurrent bladder infections

2003-04-14 Thread Wetterauer, Letitia [MWPS]
I wanted to comment here, since I suffered most of my life with recurrent
bladder infections. When you listed all the stuff that your daughter is doing,
it brought back so many memories of all my own rituals to keep them at bay.
Now, on looking back, all were pretty innefectual, with exclusion of the
cranberry and CS, which I didn't use then. By the time I reached my 40s I had
developed something suprisingly similar to interstitial cystitis or basically
weeks a month of irritation that felt just like an infection, but lab tests
found no bacteria. It got to the point that I once had to visit the emergency
room for a catheter in order to empty my bladder. During that time I had
swithched to a vegetarian diet heavy in grains. I also read some disturbing
information that indicated that standard treatments for bladder infections
(various antibiotics, etc.) may be implicated in later development interstitial
cystitis development-but it may just be that chronic infections means something
is wrong that is just going to get worse with time.

What fixed it for me was eliminating wheat and other grains. I have not had one
bladder infection or irritation since. I was a celiac and didn't know it. I
recently read an article on interstitial cystitis, a very painful bladder
irritation conditon at http://www.mercola.com/2003/apr/9/bladder.htm (go to Dr.
Mercolas comments at the bottom) where Dr. Mercola commented that the
elimination of wheat helped the condition significantly.

not a good idea. Water will condense onto the alligator clips and

CS>RE: hypothyroidism - for Sharon

2003-04-10 Thread Wetterauer, Letitia [MWPS]
You wrote:
"Can you expound on hypothyroidism? I do have it. But most of the docs
I have been to just want to throw some pills at you and send you on
your way, with no discussion on how best to live with it. I have my
theories. Like that somehow it is connected to depression. And that
strenuous exercise will help balance it. But these are just theories.
Now I am worried that It will get worse if I take CS all the time. Is
there a test to measure selenium Catherine?"

Dear Sharon,
Hypothyroidism causes depression and one of the worst things docs do is throw
antidepressants at women, which in themselves worsen hypothyroidism. It is
known in medical literature that thyroid treatment can cure long standing
intractable depression. Hypothyroidism has a major impact on brain health and
function. Many new antidepressants interfere with thyroid function and T4 to T3
conversion. There are many sites that list the symptoms of hypothyroidism. Read
Mary Shomon's "Living Well With Hypothyroidism" But, the sad thing is that I
went for years and years misdiagnosed and suffered much health debilitation.
Some signs are high cholesterol, weight gain, bloating, depression, low body
temperature, cardiovascular disease, memory problems, digestive disturbances,
sleep disturbances, and reproductive disorders from high estrogen. You can run
a simple body temperature test on yourself
http://www.lef.org/protocols/prtcl-104.shtml to see if your metabolism is
slowed.

In the old days, hypothyroidism was diagnosed by some good physical tests of
muscle response, the person's appearance (hair quality, nail ridging, skin
condition, weight, etc.), and the nature of their complaints. Current tests
that you obtain from the doctors are not adequate because they do not detect
all conditions that can make a person hypo. A person can actually have normal
blood work and be hypothyroid. Most doctors only test TSH. This test is far
from adequate due to ranges being too broad and the fact that a person can
easily have normal TSH and be hypo from a problem in the brain TSH feedback
system. At the very least, you should have a Free T3 and Free T4 test and in
all tests you should be above the midline somewhere. The reason for this is
because it is mostly hypo people who have thyroid tests which skews the ranges
for what is normal toward hypo. TSH should be between 1.0 and 2.0 not 1.0 and
5.0.

Exercise can be helpful, depending on the type of thyroid problem you have. If
you have a thyroid system problem with normal test results and maybe thyroid
hormone cellular insensitivity or resistance, then exercise can help. It is
best done several times a day for short (10 minutes or a little more) intense
periods. This helps keep the metabolism and body temps higher throughout the
day. However, if you have been hypothyroid for a while, it is likely you have
been overworking your adrenals. Then, exercise can pull the system down and
make you feel worse. It also increases demand for thyroid hormones and if your
thyroid cannot keep up, then you won't get a lot of benefit. The adrenals
actually try to compensate for low thyroid hormones by raising adrenalin and
with hypothyroidism more cortisol is needed to deal with the inflammatory
processes that are caused by being hypo. Long standing hypothyroidism often
results in adrenal fatigue or hypo-function. Adrenal fatigue itself is
associated with depression, lethargy, hopelessness and mood disturbances.
Violent offenders have been found to have low adrenal hormones.

A good tip is to go to the Wilson's Thyroid website
http://www.wilsonssyndrome.com/ and find a Wilson's doc. They would be more
likely to treat you not based solely on tests and they would be more likely to
run more extensive tests. Mary Shamon's http://thyroid-about.com mentioned
earlier is a very good site with many excellent articles and a doctor list.

You can try supplements to help your thyroid and adrenals. Nutri-meds makes
thyroid extracts which contain small amounts of thyroid hormones. Keep in mind
that if you supplement with thyroid hormone and have adrenal fatigue, you are
going to feel worse. In that case, you will need to help the adrenals with
glandulars or hydrocortisone replacement.

Selenium is essential for the conversion of thyroid hormone T4 to T3. T3 is the

CS>Alzheimer's - another theory

2003-04-07 Thread Wetterauer, Letitia [MWPS]
I have read yet another theory on this that ties it to various degrees of
hypothyroidism. In hypothyroidism, cells are not able to clear toxins and
byproducts of metabolism. People naturally become more hypo as they age. In the
caveman days, humans got some amount of animal thyroid from their meet and it
is estimated that it was about equivalent to 1/4 grain a week. This could
offset it if it is playing a role in the buildup.

CS>New to list

2003-04-07 Thread Wetterauer, Letitia [MWPS]
Hello,
I have been investigating colloidal silver lately after a long journey with
entomoeba histolytica and other health problems, especially in the last year. I
was diagnosed with hypothyroidism (have been hypo for years but ignored),
adrenal hypofunction, and entomoeba histolytica infection. I was treated for
the amoeba with flagyl a month after the thyroid diagnosis which was a
disastrous health period of beginning the wrong kind of thyroid therapy and not
getting any treatment for adrenal fatigue on top of it. So, the flagyl just
about killed me. It was prescribed by a totally parasite ignorant doctor after
I took the initiative to get a GI test on my own and brought him the results
and the treatment protocol. I just was not able to handle 10 days of Flagyl at
750mg/day. I quit after day 4. At about that time, I got a new out of state
thyroid doctor and was put on all T3, and low dose cortef. Over the next few
months, my health improved greatly, except that I still had the bug. I visited
a new doctor to see what other meds I could take for the amoeba. He ran blood
tests and determined that I no longer had it. Well, others more knowledgeable
informed me that blood tests were not good indicators whether I did or didn't
still have this infection. I came to the conclusion that I still had it because
I knew I was not right.

Histolytica is a nasty parasite that bores into the intestinal lumen and other
soft tissue (liver, brain) and hides. It also produces copious amounts of
infective cysts. It makes substances that turn off the immune system. I live in
an area where these type of parasite infections are fairly unknown by doctors
and doctors are woefully ignorant. I knew I would not likely get help from any
local or statewide doc and there was only one other "approved" medication
available to me that was very nasty. So, I needed a systemic drug that would
get these hiders as well as something to kill the cysts. I decided to order
Tinidazole from overseas. It is not approved here in the US because the drug
companies have decided it won't be profitable. It kills the amoeba and cysts in
just 3 days, which is much more tolerable for sick people. It must be followed
with another antibiotic (paromomycin, Iodoquinol, or Yodoxin) for 2 weeks to 20
days in order to take care of the remaining cysts. I was not able to get any of
these others. So, I happened on a product called Silver & Clove, which contains
colloidal silver, berberine (known to kill amoeba) and a few other things. I
used that for a 3 weeks, while I waited for the tinidazole to arrive and I had
pretty good results. Then after taking the tinidazole I continued using Silver
& Clove for over a week. Now, I am using a 500ppm colloidal silver preparation
alone on the second week after the tinidazole. I sure hope this kills the cysts
or I will be very unhappy. 3 days of Tinidazole is quite toxic enough. I'm not
keen at all on doing it again.

So, what I was wondering is: Does anyone know how good colloidal silver is at
killing cysts of amoebic dysintery? Also, I am wondering what it does to
healthy gut flora. One of the things that I need to do is reestablish healthy
life forms in the gut. I've read that people use it all the time. Does this
affect nutrient uptake, since some life forms are needed for good digestion and
digestive tract health? It is claimed it will control yeast, but I have read
one person's personal account who did not get yeast control. This scares me as
to whether then it really is totally effective against amoeba cysts.

Thanks
Tish
