.4 uS would be 2/10ths of one PPM...or zero on your PPM meter.
 That's VERY good water.  The best I've ever seen was .6 uS.
 Up to around 5 uS or 2 -3 PPM is usually OK, but that depends on what the
contaminant is too.
 Basic rule: If you don't like what happened, change the water and see if
it gets better.

  If you look into lab glass supply paces, you can get a distiller
condensing tube that's all glass, water cooled  and hook it up to your tea
pot. If you have a pressure cooker, the nipple on top should make a direct
connection.
 Shop around online too.  They can be pricy or cheap.

A company called Desti Labs has a nice-looking distiller for under 300  
bucks.   The ones below are inexpensive but lack the cooker,  and  
seem to be all glass, meaning that they would be fragile.  The Desti  
has glass tubes inside staineless steel, and is reputed to last a  
lifetime.

than 5ppm total dissolved solids.  Should also be available

hundred miles of my home town?Caloundra on the Queensland Sunshine 
Coast - 100k North of Brisbane.


I am looking at  importing from USA a  domestic steam distiller ($99)  but 
incredibly they want $85 to send it!

My neighbour says build one! But he used to be a moonshiner.  :-)

I also do understand that home variety may not be as good as commercial -
