You know, there ARE people and companies besides Apple and Microsoft who
write software. Why don't you find a better office suite? Or is this
another case where people can't be bothered to write software for a
nicheware platform that relatively few people use?

Or better yet, switch to OS X and start using all the open source *nix
software. They've even come out with Mac package managers to make
installing *nix software on a Mac a breeze.

Obviously you do care because if you didn't, you wouldn't keep taking

the computer platform used by the vast majority of computer users so
that I'm not left out in the cold when some really cool app comes out
that is not available for other platforms (like what happened with
Napster, dialpad.com, etc.) Win9x did it, albeit poorly at times;
Win2000 does it excellently.

And, during the whole time I've been using computers I keep seeing
instances where there was better software available for Windows than
Mac. For example, back in my BBSing days I heard nothing but complaints
about the Mac QWKmail readers, yet Offline Express worked flawlessly. A
few years ago when my Mac user brother needed my help to learn how to
use IRC I was stunned how crummy Ircle was compared to Pirch or even
mIRC. More recently, there were all the complaints about Media Player
for Mac. The truth is, I have yet to discover anything I want to do
for which I would benefit by switching to a Mac.

Try something Unix based. You'll be amazed.

I have a Linux box on the LAN at my office in town providing dial-up to
a Linux box in my basement that provides wireless Internet access in the
house. It's great for what I use it for, but it certainly hasn't amazed
me enough to put it on my desktop.

Ken, I don't know if Internet Explorer is similar on PeeCees

save all of my stored data including my Favorites ( URLs).
On a Mac, they are stored at a location in the software named

reinstall after you reinstall IE.
On my system if is stored in a folder named Preferences /

Sure it's not the server? They can get pretty loaded up before they
expand. Sometimes my netscape doesn't work either...probably routed
through a netscape server that gets over loaded. IE has always worked but
is sometimes very slow.

Hey Gary, it's not nice to tell those poor misinformed
PC users about the error of choosing one of those
generic machines running the current screwed up
mess that Bill Gates considers an operating system.

When you try to explain the error of their ways,
all you get is a glassy stare. :-)

Are you using windows? If you are occasionally you will install or remove
something that makes the OS unusable!
Have you tried backing up all your files and reinstalling windows then only
the software you use leaving out anything installed recently.

I know but if it weren't for other Mac users shooting out these little
blurbs I would have never looked into a Mac. I'd still be controlled by
the Dark Side.

Ah, there's the problem. You have Intel inside.

I take it you have the dreaded Win-Tel disease. Take one gallon of CS
(100 ppm recommended as it is very conductive) and douse your CPU
liberally. Then, replace with Mac. Simple solution for all your PC
problems. Immune to most worms and viri also.

I tortured my poor Mac the other day, doing things to it that would make
any Win-doze box crash and burn repeatedly. I was downloading while
playing Quake and installing programs all at the same time. On occasion
some of the shareware programs I was testing out would lock or crash but
the operating system was totally unaffected. Just started the programs
up again and continued on. Some people have been running OS X on their
Macs 24 hours a day for months at a time. Doesn't crash.

Now back to your regularly scheduled CS-List.
