SULFNBK.EXE in C:/windows/command, and deleted it. It has been over a
month since I corresponded with him.

The message I received:

---start of message---

Please check the following information to see if we
transferred a VIRUS to anyone.

I was sent this from a client -- and we did have it on
our C-Drive.

Sorry -- we hope this hasn't transferred to you.

Do the following instructions:

This is a time release virus which means that Norton
and MacAfee Anti- virus do not pick it up until it is
too late.
I was told that the virus may have attached itself to
everyone in my address book, and that I should send
this warning to all of you regardless of whether or
not I have emailed you in the past week or so.

Please follow the following directions to see if you
have the virus and if you do, to eliminate it.

Click on start.
Choose find or search.
Choose files and /or folders.
Select find.
Select C drive.
The file to search for is: SULFNBK.EXE

If you find this file, DO NOT OPEN IT!
SELECT THE FILE BY right clicking ON YOUR MOUSE AND
DELETE IT!
Then close the window and EMPTY YOUR RECYCLE BIN.
Then email everyone in your address book and ask them
to follow the same procedures.

Hi James,

You probably have read the info about the sulfnbk.exe files at the following
address: http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/sulfnbk.exe.warning.html

If not others may benefit from info. at the above address.

It says:

This particular email message is a hoax. The file that is mentioned in the
hoax, however, Sulfnbk.exe, is a Microsoft
Windows utility that is used to restore long file names, and like any .exe
file, it can be infected by a virus that
targets .exe files.

This is a hoax. sulfnbk.exe comes with windows. it is used by Windows
to restore long filenames. As any file it CAN be infected, but the file
itself should be there. Check the date on the file and if it is the
same as the date on the other files in the windows\command directory,
then it is the copy that came with Windows.

If you delete it certain parts of Windows will not work.

transferred a VIRUS to anyone.

I was sent this from a client -- and we did have it on

This is a multi-application Internet worm which is designed with intent

This worm may arrive by email in the following format:

 Subject: [P1]+[P2]+[P3]
Body: The male and female stages of life.
 Attachment: LIFE_STAGES.TXT.SHS

In the above, the subject line is variable, but limited to 12 possible
combinations. P1, P2 P3 are chosen from the respective lists below:

 P1 -» FW: ,
P2 -» Life stages, Funny, Jokes
 P3 -» text,
