Re: CS GABA source
Hi Ken, I used GABA a couple years ago to help reduce anxiety induced by taking imbalanced amino acids that were suggested by my doc for mood elevation/immune enhancement. The GABA helped me a lot and I needed up to thirteen 500 mg. capsules per day (Now Foods brand) to get evened out. I was able to reduce the dosage as time progressed and now I don't need any at all. I found that it helps the most if taken regularly throughout the day such as three or four times. I have also used it before bedtime to relax by emptying a capsule into my mouth and dissolving it sublingually. If I wake up in the night this method can help quite a bit to get me back to sleep. So can magnesium glycinate taken the same way. I prefer magnesium gel now (magnesium chloride) applied transdermally. It's a great value mg. for mg.! With GABA I did get the niacin-like flush also but it is short-lived and easy enough to put up with. Some say that supplemental GABA is very poorly absorbed and it probably is but it still helped me when I needed it. A good book regarding amino acid supplementation and related dietary manipulation, if you're interested, is The Edge Effect, by Dr. Eric R. Braverman. M.D.. I found it to be very informative. Supposedly, the water soluble portion of cinnamon is considered to have this good effect on insulin etc, but the oil soluble portion of cinnamon, or some varieties of cinnamon, is thought to have some components that are not good to take in larger quantities. I also take MSM and Glucosamine 2 grams of each daily. I switch off on the brain protecting supplements every other day so the body doesn't have a chance to get used to the same thing every day. Taurine is another great supplement for the brain, and glucose uptake. I buy it by the lb. It's also great for the eyes. Astaxanthin, and Zeaxanthin are two more good antioxidants for the eyes, along with Lutein, and a couple more that are on the tip of my tongue. They help prevent Macular degeneration in older eyes. I can tell when I don't take those for a few days too. Unfortunately the body does age no matter what we do, but we can minimize the age related debilities, thank heavens. It's really much more economical to buy in bulk and make your own capsules, tinctures, infusions and teas. I'd be spending much much more if I bought everything already encapsulated and bottled. Making your own tinctures and other stuff isn't hard, or complicated, at all. If you make your own colloidal silver you can make these other things quite easily. I just bought 4 lbs of freshly harvested Lomatium root, and some Usnea, to make tinctures and oil infusions for the family for this coming flu season. I've also bought some Licorice root and a few other expectorants, and lung and bronchial tube clearer uppers.
