Hi Susie,

I live in Snohomish & have found that the best quality DW I can find is
still at Fred Meyer. I've had good luck with DW from both the
Bellevue/Redmond store & and the 2 in South Everett/Lynnwood.

Thank you Garnet,

That helps a lot. I will get the Kleenex tissues, more convenient too. Right
now finances are down the drain but thank you for that link for distilled
water!

BTW, I live in Snohomish, WA (so thankful to be hurricane free)

Susie

///I found that using Kleenex brand tissue, others may work differently I
don't know, is better than using paper towels. The paper towels shed
more and I had more yellow batches. With the Kleenex there is no
shedding and no yellow batches.

On the distilled water why not buy a counter top distiller and make your
own. It is nice not to have to carry bottled water. I bought a unit for
$99 from www.wholesalewaterdistillers.com . It is often sold for $200 -
$349, I have seen it many times for these prices. So this site is truly
wholesale. I have hard water, 42, so not as bad as some. I simply wipe
it out after each batch and soak it in vinegar and water over night
every 6 or 7th batch, when the mineral deposits that won't wipe out get
to be the size of a quarter on the bottom of the vessel.

My SG6 never registers any conductance with my home made distilled
water. I figure it has just about paid for itself in 8 months.

2004-09-15 Thread Craig C Chamberlin

Hi Susie,

Where in WA do you live?

Can't help with the rest:(

Craig

Since getting my generator I have made about 4 quarts CS.

I have 2 different brands of true DW. One that I made a batch from yesterday
and today. Yesterdays batch I transferred into a amber glass bottle that a
friend had sent me (her home brewed CS) and I have had previous batches of
my CS in it. Anyway, I am adding drops of H202 after brewing. This one
turned and stayed somewhat milky. The one I just brewed today had quite a
few floaty stuff in it, I didn't wipe the electrodes with this batch and
when I added the H202, it turned yellow. I didn't strain the batch as it
doesn't bother me and I don't have anything sterile to filter it with. I am
assuming all this is normal and ok?

I try to only touch the electrodes with paper towels and not fingers and
clean with distilled water and rinse the jar with DW. So I don't think
things are contaminated???

Anyway..I live in Washington state. Anyone know of a quality distilled
water? I don't have a clue if the 2 different brands that I have used were
"good" or not.

Is Wallgreens in Seattle made in PA?
Montana?

A person who lives North of Chicago had to go to a different chain store to
get decent water. All the brands in that one chain was made by the same
distiller.

Walgreens DW says it is bottled in Milesburg, PA, and distributed by
Walgreens in Deerfield IL. I've bought it from several different Walgreens
in several different tows, and they all say the same thing. Since I live in

Thanks for the tip Richard; I just got some Walgreen's DW at 99 cents and
it tested .3 on my PWT. I saved .1 over the Zephyrhills at .4 and 30 cents
to boot! I haven't calibrated my PWT since I got it about 8 months ago. I
always get clear CS, and can't see any tyndall.

RE: CS>Best distilled water ?

2004-05-12 Thread James Holmes
The CO2 from the air makes it acidic. O2 gets in too, but I am not sure
what effect that has. If it is water in the 0.0 to 5 ppm range or the
water is conductivity adjusted before making the CS it is usually not of
practical concern.

It's all locally distilled regardless of brand.
Some brands practice better oversight on the local distillers.

My meter reads to 0.1.

I have never tested anything better than Arrowhead. Some batches read 0.0.

Too pure can result in low yield. Some systems advise raising the

Re: CS>Best distilled water ?

2004-05-11 Thread Ode Coyote
Distilled water just plain ole varies.
I use Foodloin water a lot.
Sometimes it's as high as 4 uS...usually around 2 uS.
 Lately it's been .4 uS

best testing out at .7 on my Hanna PWT. I paid $2.59 for the 2.5 gal
container but now I am seeing the difference between the cheap DW and the
good stuff. I looked at the Arrowhead website and they seem to be very
quality control minded. Nestle owns Arrowhead, so big $ behind them. The
worst DW goes to Smart and Final testing out at 44. Maybe it was mislabeled
mineral water. All I got from that stuff was gray, cloudy cs. My Silver
Puppy shut down in 10 seconds (auto mode) with that water. I switched to
manual mode and got big clouds and wisps and found out later how bad this
water was with my PWT. Anyone else find DW testing better than the Arrowhead?
