Anyway, in regards to the whole thing about running VMS 1.5 on SIMH,
and installing it...
Oh hey look I accidentally some links to the install tape, standalone
backup disk pack image, and installation document:

(Taken from the "Old-VMS V1.1beta" distributed by I-forget-who.)

The installation document is more just a log of a console session
while installing, so it should be enough to get you from a standalone
backup kit and tape image to running VMS 1.5; the tape image and
standalone backup kit are compressed using 7-Zip because otherwise it
would take 27 billion years to upload on my connection.

I recently got this behavior from another FTP site in Germany with
classic computer content.  Each click is a new FTP session, and about
5 clicks in, my IP got auto-banned for a large number of minutes.
Same with using wget.  First few files were fine, then banned.

Right.  I switched to an FTP client and had no problems (on that other
site) getting whatever I needed.

I suspect there's a new feature in FTP servers (since the last time I
set one up) that defaults to this behavior.  Perhaps it's to impede
simple bots from siphoning off content.

Good to know. Now it complains from the FileZilla console, with a 530
error message of "Stop connecting frequently". Huh? It's not as if I'd
repeatedly tried to connect. I gave up from the web browser, and
waited until I saw your message and set up my normal FTP device on
Windows, and then tried.

I suspect that the site is having a bad day.

Usual browser caveats apply. I just downloaded all tapes (again) using 
FileZilla on Windows 10.


From linux, plain ftp w/binary transfer should be no problem. Or wget

This is not taken from an original tape. It's something I reconstructed
from a disk containing early VAX/VMS source and binaries. The dates
indicate that this is earlier than VAX/VMS 1.5.
Hopefully someone can find an original at some point.

Alas, no. It is one of few made dozens of years ago. I'm thinking of 
starting a kickstarter for 3D-print of same...
