Hey, What's happening ? I have been meaning to do this for a while but I you know how it goes. Anyway there is this magazine called Broken Pencil out of Toronto and they review zines and stuff so everyone one here that does one should send theirs in so it can be reviewed / acknowledged. Their address is: Broken Pencil PO Box 203, Station P Toronto, Ontario. M5S 2S7 In the little blurb they ask to include the name of the publisher, classification (rock, dishwashing, etc.), main creators, price and address, all in that order. Hopefully everyone will send in their stuff don't forget that you can also send suff to the Zine of Zines, Factsheet 5 and their URL is - http://kzsu.stanford.edu/uwi/f5e/f5e.html . Check that out for more info. By the way, I'm totally sorry if someone has posted such information already. Talk to you later. marc. ps. sloan\geffen etc.
REgarding a series of posts. Zee Sloan band didn't get signed at Musicwest but instead thats when they first met up with Geffen folk. They did not sign until later in the year once the blue smarties were removed from thee contract. Its true they only perfomed outside Halifax a handful of times before this meeting. Regarding turning down Sub PopSloan had already fallen under the spell of DGC before the Sub Pop east coast romance began... re:2X Removed...Geffen\MCA in Canada liked the record and worked hard on it ,but Geffen U.S. were indifferent towards the recordsome were in to it ,others were not.Changes were asked to be made in the record but Sloan would not consent. murder biz: About the Superfriendz 7 ...the reason it had the MCA logo was becuz we were trying to copy an old Wilf Carter LP cover (called 'By Request') and in the corner it had the Camden\RCA logo .We decided to put the Murder\MCA logo as the replacement for continuity's sakealthough looking back on it I can understand why people not familiar with the Wilf Carter record would think it suspicious. new math
I had some comments written back not understanding that last post regarding failing math in grade 10 and the Television LP.I don't mean to sound so cryptic n'all...anyways to nail the lid on the already closed coffin...I was remarking on a band who I feel are sorta forefathers of all this math rock jive. Television 's 1st 7(Little Johnny Jewel) on Ork Records and their debut LP (Marquee Moon) on Elektra set the standard of skinny white dudes playing angular music. They were one of the first bands that focused primarily on the duelling twin guitars that was not born from a traditional form or blues base(like for example..The Yardbirds)their solos were more like jazz solos and their riffs are very mathematically thought out. I sorta think they fit into Catano's guideline which seemed accurate. My 2cents. Jay f. -- Murderecords Box 2372 Halifax Central Halifax N.S. B3J 3E4 Canada. e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] --
Trowbridge's grades
Along with Chris , I too failed grade 10 math and had to write a make up exam in the summer. So I went and bought the first Television LP and became the teachers pet. Jay -- Murderecords Box 2372 Halifax Central Halifax N.S. B3J 3E4 Canada. e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] --
patty p tuck
Regarding Katrina's inquiry about Patrick being in Bluegrass Lawnmower...Al Tuck really wanted Patrick to blow some leads in the lawnmower but it all crumbled when Tuck refused to learn Two Minutes To Midnight by Maiden and Breakin' The Law by Priest.Such is history... The Super Friendz et all
ok ok ok so we at murder are going to ask a favour and see how the system works. The Super Friendz have just put out a video at much music for 10lbs, but it is not in any official rotation it is in the option pile, the VJs, if they feel like it put it on. So the plan is to flood them with requests and see what happens. If you think this is stupid, fine then what ever, but if you want to help control the media... sort of, then do it Plus it is a cool video, line dancing, hot tub scenes and the cooky pranks of the Super Friendz. Also if you are in Halifax The Hip Club Groove are playing Aug 25th at Birdland, first gig since they got home. I think itmay turn into a rave thing. Re: Murderecords opportunity!
Gee, if Murderecords has an email account and can post to the Sloannet, then WHY!? aren't they taking this opportunity to distribute (say once a month) an electronic form of their latest catalog? Hey, What's happening ? This is the deal, I have a email catalogue but I don't want to bore people with one every month. If you want on, email me. Also I do have a monthly mailing list to tell people what is going on around here. If you want that baby, drop me some email with 'mailing' the header and I'll slap you on. Sorry to take up space. Marc.
Re: superfriendz at music west
Hey, What's happening ? The Super Friendz are not going to be playing at Music West. Brain was right about getting screwed by some booker so they'll be going out that way around the end of June, start of July. If your going to go to any of the shows go see Rebecca West. Amazing. Marc.
hardship post
I just walked ointo Dischord, used record shop in Halifax to find a Hardship post cd single from the new album, no Johnny Cox listed this time, Lippa was though. I have heard the Album and it rocks like a bolt of lightning hitting a clear plastic rain coat. colin m : its a small town production jale : murderecords : cinnamon Toast Records po box 2372, Halifax Central Halifax, N.S., b3j 3e4 902-422-6114 fx902-422-2194
