There dialin TAP gateway works fine with smsclient but you need
to specify the following settings in the conf file before it does.

SMS_login_sleep  = "1000"
SMS_init_login_sleep  = "1000"

SMS_tap_select = "PG1login"

There internet gateway works fine too I've got a perl script that I
wrote if you're interested.

You need the version from unstable (2.3.23).

Note that since the introduction of package pools and the 'testing'
tree, unstable != woody. (rather, woody == testing)

Figured it out, operator problem.

Debian's woody distribution is using a version of Modutils that doesn't satisfy
2.4.0 software prerequisites.

It can't see where the modules are kept for some reason, they are there but
in a layout different to the 2.2 series of kernels.

More info?

Was it broken in 2.4.0-prerelease as well, or is this specific
to 2.4.0-final?

There is still some breakage between 2.4 and pcmcia-cs. The
kernel doesn't tell `cardmgr' which network interface is
associated with a NIC, and things get confused.

[SLUG] redrock and monitoring files

2001-01-04 Thread David Kempe

Hey sluggers,
two questions.
Wondering if Redrock messagenet works well with linux. Is it compatible with
qpage and has anyone got it working/and feedback? Does the Redrock software
for linux work?
Just interested in intracompany messageing and some monitoring etc

Also,
is there a utility/script to monitor a file that is changing but is only one
line?
Like tail -f monitors a file that is appended, im after a util that monitors
a one line file. Its only a one line file, and its only a few words, kinda
like a cat -f or something. Does this exist?

Thanks,

dave

Hi Guys,

Just did the upgrade from 2.4.0-prerelease to 2.4.0, has anyone had
troubles doing this and getting the modules to work. I have a feeling it could
have been the way I installed the pcmcia modules.

I opted out of using the pcmcia modules in the kernel source tree.

Apart from some module problems, seems fine to me.

iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -s 192.168.1.0/24 -d ! 192.168.1.0/24 -j

I don't knwo about your monitor in particular, but I managed to get a
really old 19" Sun moniotr happening with X... fixed freq - not video card
(using standard VGA card)..

The trick is to pull it open and play with it until you get the hsync and
vsync right.. the larger monitors will usually work if your card is
driving at 1280x1024 and you fiddle enough (look at the specs of your
monitor to be sure)..

Mind you, it will *only* work when in graphics mode (i.e. X) .. whne
you're booting you'll just see fuzz. :)

ah-ha yes it did that but left remanents of exim behind.
eg. cron kept trying to fire exim off every few minutes, the
startup script was still in /etc/init.d, conf file still in /etc,
exim dir still in /var/log, spool dirs still there etc etc.
All should have been removed.

Now onto postfix, I thought it was going ok but just now when
I looked through the logs it sent a mail off to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
that was obviously supposed to go to me (ie. root@spiral).
I have told postfix:
myhostname = spiral.smartchat.net.au
myorigin = smartchat.net.au
masquerade_domains = smartchat.net.au
and the rest default.
It's probably the same reason I send mail to "fred" and it
goes to [EMAIL PROTECTED] instead of local user fred.
Ie. I've lost the ability to send local email.

I added the masq line cos otherwise outgoing emails appear to
come from spiral.smartchat.net.au which (a) isn't right and
(b) causes mail bounces from places that check for valid domains.

You'll have to add local addresses (check the format as described in the
handily commented out manpage within the Debian version of the virtuals
file) to /etc/postfix/virtual and run 'postmap /etc/postfix/virtual' and
restart postfix. For instance:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]   @localhost

This will make sure that any email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] will be
delivered locally. Post fix absolutely rocks, but you really have to read
the anatomy document on postfix.org (click the little flowcharty looking
image up the top left).

Hope you're enjoying them. :)

ah-ha yes it did that but left remanents of exim behind.
eg. cron kept trying to fire exim off every few minutes, the
startup script was still in /etc/init.d, conf file still in /etc,
exim dir still in /var/log, spool dirs still there etc etc.
All should have been removed.

Now onto postfix, I thought it was going ok but just now when
I looked through the logs it sent a mail off to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
that was obviously supposed to go to me (ie. root@spiral).
I have told postfix:
myhostname = spiral.smartchat.net.au
myorigin = smartchat.net.au
masquerade_domains = smartchat.net.au
and the rest default.

Dave.

[SLUG] Licq wont connect to server

2001-01-04 Thread Arunava Sen

Hello,

All of a sudden I cant get on ICQ using Licq anymore. i get the
following message in the "network window"

21:48:03: [UDP] Requesting logon (#17820)...
21:48:03: [UDP] Resolving icq.mirabilis.com...
21:48:03: [UDP] ICQ server found at 205.188.153.104:4000.
21:48:03: [UDP] Creating local server.
21:48:03: [UDP] Opening socket to server.
21:48:03: [UDP] Ack (#17820).

and it just stays like that forever. Strange thing is that icq on my
windows laptop can connect just fine. Just wondering if licq is bitching
or if the bastards at mirabilis have changed the server protocol now or
something. Can anyone connect to icq at this time?

Thanks

Arun

Thanks guys - tried 9 already - Telstra have NO IDEA what the number should
be !!

As for routing loops... don't get me started...

In any other case, I'd say "1800 999 999", but I don't think this is what
Telstra means. Go easy on them, they have *so* much work to do just to come
across as hopeless. ;)

Don't get me started on wannabes though - you ever enjoyed seeing a routing
loop stay broken for longer than a few hours, and then be told that
"external consultants have been brought in to deal with the problem"?

- Jeff (stunningly off-topic, my apologies)

I use the following piece of bash script to upload my webcam images:

uploadpic() {
ftp -v -i -n $host
