If you put a SMB share or NFS export in /etc/fstab in Ubuntu, and that
share became unavailable, I'd be very surprised if you didn't have the
same problem. This has nothing to do with distros.

I'd also be surprised if Ubuntu had a method to confirm each survice and
skip netfs.

Not everything is about distros.

2005-05-08 Thread dimitri
Acctually I found out that the FSTAB file is fine, but I was hit by a
hacker unfortunally, so I am going to reinstall the whole thing. And yes I
am staying with Red Hat...

Hey guys,

Just hoping you may be able to help me. I've got a fresh install of ubuntu

putting in my username and password the system completely locks up.

Any ideas?

Thanks

2005-05-08 Thread Craige McWhirter

Where: Corner of Henry and Cook Streets, Turrella, Sydney.

Who:
This session is suitable for both complete Linux beginners and those
with more experience who wish to share their knowledge and skills.

What:
In the last session, we learnt about PC hardware by pulling apart a
roomful of dis-functional machines and making over 13 functional
machines out of them. This time we'll take those thirteen machines, add a
few more (or your own if you wish to bring it) and take the next step in
getting to know your freedom - installing Free Software on the PC.

We will be installing the Linux distribution Ubuntu for this exercise, in
a choice of server or desktop configuration (depending on your preference
and the machine you choose to install it on).

Costs:
Attendance is a gold coin donation to help feed the [EMAIL PROTECTED] For a
double
digit note donation, you can take home the machine you've installed
Linux on (all bar five machines are available for this purpose). There
are about 20 machines to choose from, from PII's, Dual Pentium Pro's,
Apple Macs, Sun Sparc Ultra 5s and assorted odds'n'ends.

I look forward to seeing you at what should be a vibrant and educational
night.

[SLUG] Squid: Sometimes files stop downloading after 1 mb

2005-05-08 Thread Joel Heenan
Hey SLUG,

We are experiencing a strange problem with Squid. We start Squid and it
runs fine at first. Then after a period of time it gets into a state
where when downloading a file after just before it reaches the 1 mb mark
the download pauses as if it has timed out. Once Squid is in this state
it can be reliably reproduced. I have sometimes found the downloads
resume after a period of waiting, say 10-15 minutes, but are then
corrupted. Once in this state it can be restarted and the problem
sometimes re-appears and sometimes goes away.

We are using Squid 2.5.9-6
