Re: [SLUG] Samba question
Been a while since I read the samba docs, but both of those should work. As an aside, are you setting your create masks, etc with 3 or 4 digit notation? create mask = 0664 - Original Message - From: "Chris Allen" To: slug@slug.org.au Sent: Sunday, 6 May, 2012 6:55:38 PM Subject: [SLUG] Samba question At work I (and others) log on to a Unix system from a M$ desktop via Samba. Every file I we create via this connection has has the access rights of 744. We would prefer this be to be 664 I have tried this with create mask and force create mode but it does not work. Can any one suggest a solution. PS. Is there a reference book the explains Samba in simple and plain language? Every time I read literature on Samba, it is always written in complex dialect compubabale that only alpha geeks can understand. That approach does not help persuade the general public to take up Samba Chris Allen -- SLUG - Sydney Linux User's Group Mailing List - http://slug.org.au/ Subscription info and FAQs: http://slug.org.au/faq/mailinglists.html
Re: [SLUG] Samba question
I think I know the answer on this, let me check one of my backups tonight for a sample configuration for you. I found the pocket books to be handy for quick reference on these things. [SLUG] Samba question
Not that I could ever figure it out properly myself but I do know the values are stored in samba.conf in /etc. They have a creation flag setting that you can easily change. -- SLUG - Sydney Linux User's Group Mailing List - http://slug.org.au/ Subscription info and FAQs: http://slug.org.au/faq/mailinglists.html
[SLUG] May 2012 Monthly Meeting
== May 2012 SLUG Meeting == Summary * Date: Friday, May 25, 2012, 6 p.m. * Start: Arrive at 6pm for a 6:30pm start * Format: TBA * RSVP: http://www.slug.org.au/event/142002 * Suggest or sign up for a talk at http://www.slug.org.au/talks Details - Peter Chubb - Escaping from Google I have a number of concerns about the new Google privacy policy, especially in the way they are breaking down the barriers between the various data silos they used to keep. As such I want to escape from gmail, google calendars, picassa and google docs, while still using an Android phone. I've now just about achieved this, using owncloud. In this talk, I'll give a brief motivation for not using the `free' services from Google, Apple or whoever, and then show how to run your own cloud service(s) for calendars, addressbook, random files, email, and photographs. Location Google Sydney Level 5, Workplace 6 48 Pirrama Road Pyrmont, NSW Map: http://signup.slug.org.au/map -- Getting there -- The Google office is the big black building marked "Accenture" opposite Star City Pirrama Road facade. If using the trains, you can go either get off at; * Town Hall station, head towards Darling Harbour, walk across the Pyrmont footbridge and then follow Pirrama Road towards Star city. * Central station, then follow the light rail instructions. If using the buses, the route 443 stops right out front of the building. If using the light rail, get off at Star City station and walk across the street. If you drive, then you can look for parking on the suburban streets around the office (or pay for parking at the Casino), and then walk from there. === Afterwards === We'll be aiming to finish by 8pm and will be heading to the Pyrmont Bridge Hotel (PBH) afterwards to socalise and eat dinner. The PBH is marked on the map. -- SLUG - Sydney Linux User's Group Mailing List - http://slug.org.au/ Subscription info and FAQs: http://slug.org.au/faq/mailinglists.html
[SLUG] Samba question
