 Definitely. No operating system in the world has mental telepathy. Every
 OS boots based on the data the disk gives it, and if the disk doesn’t
 give the right data, no amount of Open Source Magic™ or Reality
 Distortion Fields™ are going to make it boot.

  Lately Linux is being having trouble loading taking a long time to load
  up. Even when in the / dir it was problems.

  sda1= 150 bad sectors
  sdb1= 392 bad sectors
  sdc1= 238 bad sectors

 Weird that you have bad sectors on each drive. Unless all three drives
 are really old and decrepit.

It's wired i have only had the drives of over a bout 6 months.

in the System tab there was a SMART funtion in there.

 What did you use to generate that data?

[SLUG] Notification Bubbles

2010-07-04 Thread Josh Smith

Hey everyone.

I was looking around today. and I found that you could modify the bubble
that comes on the screen.

You can run the little script that I have added if you like. Or the way
below. :)

I Remember someone was trying to make the bubble stay longer in this
configuration file you can change it.

http://www.webupd8.org/2010/05/finally-easy-way-to-customize-notify.html

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:leolik/leolik

sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade

gedit ~/.notify-osd

# Place this in the configuration file that you just made.

slot-allocation = fixed
bubble-expire-timeout = 10sec
bubble-vertical-gap = 5px
bubble-horizontal-gap = 5px
bubble-corner-radius = 37,5%
bubble-icon-size = 30px
bubble-gauge-size = 6px
bubble-width = 240px
bubble-background-color = 131313
bubble-background-opacity = 90%
text-margin-size = 10px
text-title-size = 100%
text-title-weight = bold
text-title-color = ff
text-title-opacity = 100%
text-body-size = 90%
text-body-weight = normal
text-body-color = eaeaea
text-body-opacity = 100%
text-shadow-opacity = 100%

notify-send test to test the bubble

One you're done, restart notify-osd with :

pkill notify-osd

found that Xwinwarp is a little bugging.

I tried to put in in vlc to do the same thing. So far it playing with
the correct size on the desktop.

still trying to make it go on the desktop so I can still see the icons
that are on the desktop.

[SLUG] Little pidgin problem

2010-03-25 Thread Josh Smith
Hey every one how are you going.

I am currently using a pidgin screenlet. but I still have the pidgin
window that keeps coming up too. I was wondering if there was a way to
open pidgin with no window so it just uses the screenlet.

[SLUG] A little script help

2010-03-16 Thread Josh Smith

Hey everybody.

I am using this script at the moment. It a little password generator
script I was wondering if anyone could help me out.

I would like the First letter to be a Capital and the last two to be any
digits?

The one that I have puts capitals all over the place and sometimes it
does not have any number's at all.

I plan to use this for work for the (DRN) I have run out of things to
put as my password and I am not aloud to have the same password twice

Thanks in advance Josh.

[SLUG] Linux Software Review Day

2010-02-18 Thread Josh Smith
Its Software Review Day today, So if your reading this make sure you
have posted your review.

So for my review ill be reviewing a program called xwinwrap, What is
this program you say???
well it enables you to have a animated desktop :-O , yes its true, you
can animate your desktop and its easy.

I'm running Ubuntu so my instructions are as is.

Open up your terminal and us these commands to download and install:

sudo apt-get install build-essential libx11-dev x11proto-xext-dev
libxrender-dev libxext-dev cvs

  * cvs -d :pserver:anon...@cvs.freedesktop.org:/cvs/xapps co
xwinwrap
  *
  * cd xwinwrap
  *
  * make
  *
  * sudo cp xwinwrap /usr/bin

So hopefully you have successfully downloaded and compiled and
installed. To the fun part know, with the next example you will use the
glmatrix screen saver as your desktop.

  * nice -n 15 xwinwrap -ni -o 0.20 -fs -s -sp -st -b -nf
-- /usr/lib/xscreensaver/glmatrix -root -window-id WID

So if you look at your desktop you should have the matrix screen saver
streaming over top of your desktop, how cool :-! , you may notice that
its a bit transparent well you can change that if you like plus may
other things about the behaviour by changing the command switches.

xwinwrap [-g] [-ni] [-argb] [-fs] [-s] [-st] [-sp] [-a] [-b] [-nf]
[-fl] [-o OPACITY] -- COMMAND ARG1...

-g geometry
-ni no input
-argb argb, Alpha, Red, Green, Blues
-fs fullscreen
-s sticky
-st skip taskbar
-sp skip pager
-a above
-b below
-nf noFocus
-o opacity=# Between 0 and 1

Your not limited to just the glmatrix screen saver, any screeen saver in
the /usr/lib/xscreensaver directory should work a treat.

 Stay tuned every Linux Software Review Day every Friday for more cool
Reviews!

for moive's is

  * xwinwrap -ni -o 0.6 -fs -s -st -sp -b -nf -- mplayer -wid WID
-quiet /home/josh/Documents/this_is_the_path_to_the_movie.mpg
