[SLUG] Re: Setting up Bluetooth
The obex stuff is what I'm looking for however the problem I seem to have now is getting my phone and my laptop paired. when I try the obex things I get a prompt on my phone asking for a pass code. And I can't seem to find any way of setting this code so that pairing can take place. 2009/6/30 elliott-brennan elliottbren...@gmail.com: Hi Konrad, This is what I sent to someone recently. Let me know how you go. One of the things I've noticed is that Dolphin - the impaired brother of Konqueror - wants to open the files when I click on them. I had trialled KDE4 on my Hardy install but then removed it. It wasn't polished enough. So I've still got Dolphin and it wants to take over in these instances. It seem to work often. One thing to do is ensure you have 'tree view' activated, as this seems to work better in Konqueror for accessing the file system on devices I'm connected to. * Make sure you have: obexftp obexserver quobex bluez-pin bluez-utils kdebluetooth installed. If you don't use KDE just exclude that bit. You may then need to do: sudo /etc/init.d/bluez-utils restart or sudo /etc/init.d/bluetooth restart Make sure that bluetooth is enabled on the phone and that the device is visible or 'findable'. Then, run hcitool scan This gives you the address of the device, and likely the name, such as: 01:14:9a:b3:gc:de Motorola phone Next, run: sdptool browse this helps find the channel The list will be very long. I tend to use 'tree view' in my view options. You should then be able to browse, copy from and too, the various folders on the device. On the mobile, you should be able to use an option like 'push' or 'send' to send files to the 'nix box. Getting the remote s60 Python shell going would be good too. The relevant tools only have instructions for doing this under windows, in a round about way by mapping a comm port to bluetooth and then using pyserial for the interface. I've noticed that there are python bindings for bluetooth so I suspect this can be done more directly. But getting a connection going is still the first step. On balance I'd much rather get this going at the commandline tool then with some gui app. (so far all my attemtps have used hcitool). regs Konrad. 2009/6/30 elliott-brennan elliottbren...@gmail.com: Hi Konrad, I'm hoping someone might be able to give me some advice on setting up bluetooth. [SLUG] Re: Setting up Bluetooth
Just as a final update. My connection problems have been solved with some assistence from a coworker :) for whatever reason /etc/defaults/bluetooth had enable bluetooth set to off. and need to be set to on. After that it was a case of running: sudo bluetooth-wizard apperently their is no command line tool that can do pairing at the moment. I can now mount my phone via bluetooth. regs Konrad. 2009/7/1 konrad Zielinski kzielin...@gmail.com: The obex stuff is what I'm looking for however the problem I seem to have now is getting my phone and my laptop paired. when I try the obex things I get a prompt on my phone asking for a pass code. [SLUG] Setting up Bluetooth
Hi All, I'm hoping someone might be able to give me some advice on setting up bluetooth. Running Ubuntu-8.10 64 bit currently I have the adapter on and hciconfig hcitool shows that I have an adaptor I can run hcitool scan and see other devices. however when I call hcitool cc address nothing happens. The command returns with no errors but a subseqent hcitool con shows no active connections. likewise the gnome bluetooth applet can seem to see an adapter, even though hcitool does. I've done some googling but can't seem to find any suggestions on what to do next. regs Konrad -- read my mind at: http://the-willows.blogspot.com/ -- SLUG - Sydney Linux User's Group Mailing List - http://slug.org.au/ Subscription info and FAQs: http://slug.org.au/faq/mailinglists.html

Yes, I haven't found any major issues (have run it since Alpha 1 :P) Harrison I installed Gutsy in 32 bit mode due to libTk not working on 64 bit builds of Gutsy. Does anyone know if Hardy Heron 64 bit builds have a working libTk. There's just a lot of programms I like to have that depend on libTk, I'm still holding off on the switch as moving to 64 would require a re-install, rather than an upgrade. regs Konrad -- SLUG - Sydney Linux User's Group Mailing List - http://slug.org.au/ Subscription info and FAQs: http://slug.org.au/faq/mailinglists.html
[SLUG] Ubuntu Linux DV camera
I'm trying to connect a DV camara to a newly built Ubuntu(2.6 kernel recompiled for 686) box without success, So far i have learned that for some reason the system that Ubuntu uses dosn't create the appropriate dev node when the raw1394 module is loaded, I have added the following to the end of my bootmisc.sh mknod /dev/raw1394 c 171 0 chown root:video /dev/raw1394 chmod 666 /dev/raw1394 The software I am trying to use is Kino and DVGrab both of which i installed from binary packages. attempts to access the camera come back with an error no camera found. I have previously used the same firewire controller to access a firewire hard drive enclosure (under mandrake) Ditto for the camera (but with a different controller). regards Konrad -- SLUG - Sydney Linux User's Group Mailing List - http://slug.org.au/ Subscription info and FAQs: http://slug.org.au/faq/mailinglists.html
