[SLUG] Disappearing Title Bar

I may be using the system fine for an hour or so and then the next window I open has no title bar and when I look at the other open windows I find that their title bars have disappeared also. The only way they come back is by rebooting. Is this a bug in gnome? Restarting the component will get you back. gnome-panel possibly Quite some time ago I had similar trouble - but not on Ubuntu 10.04. Sounds like Compiz. Try turning of visual effects. System->Preferences->appearance->VisualEffects Select None If the problem does not return you know its compiz and can start trouble shooting from there. I used to get that quite often in older Ubuntu releases on my old laptop running compiz and emerald, and it was caused by emerald crashing. Very easy to fix, just run "emerald --replace &" and your title bars will reappear. If you're not running emerald, then try restarting whichever window decorator you're using. Cheers, John -- Gentoo. In Mint my desktop theme settings occasionally revert to the default theme on booting. (The keyboard sound-player controls cease to function at the same time, otherwise I probably wouldn't notice it.) The quickest solution I found was to put a link to the Appearance control in the panel. Just clicking on this and bringing up the Appearance dialog fixes the problem -- I don't even have to select a theme. This might do the trick. But it hasn't happened to me for a while -- something to do with switching to Banshee from Rhythmbox? Jon.
