[RCSE] Check out my fun Red Herring graphics!
"RED" of Red Herring fame recently updated his website and now with just a few clicks of your mouse, you can see the "angry fish" graphics on my all-EPP Red Herring! (I know you've been waiting with baited breath to see it... and nothing in life has held any meaning during the agony of your penitence) This is the plane that got the most airtime on my massive Northern California Sloping Safari last year. It has been ghosted around in light morning air at Tick Hill, and ballasted up for 40mph winds at Ft. Funston. And it has some serious airtime at my local speed bump, Gasworks Park in Seattle. Enjoy! [RCSE] mystery slope near Boston
Hi, Can someone in the Boston area tell me where to find this "mystery slope" pictured on the Charles River Radio Controllers page? Also, if you fly it please let me know the optimal wind directions. http://www.charlesriverrc.org/flyingsites_massmysteryslope.htm I'm moving there next month and this slope looks interesting-- and closer than Cape Cod for casual flying. [RCSE] Model Aviation magazine
Contrary to popular opinion, that piece of junk mail that arrives each month courtesy of our AMA insurance policy actually isn't junk..From time to time good information can be had if you are willing to wade thru it all. Take the latest, November 1999 issue, page 88. Anyone out there using CyA adhesives should read this. VERY good information on the use, care and handling of CyA. It cleared up a lot of the problems I've encountered with CyA over the years. RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. Send "subscribe" and "unsubscribe" requests to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Fw: [RCSE] carbon fiber push rods help
A short piece of brass tubing can be used at both ends of the pushrod. The control horn end is bent in an L shape and fits into the control horn. The servo end may have a length of 1/32" music wire soldered into the brass tubing and a "Z" bend in the servo end. The tubing is glued to the carbon rod with CA. The tubing may be removed by heating the CA area with a solder iron and simultaneously gently pulled apart. One advantage of this system is the possible length adjustment after flight trimming to zero out transmitter adjustments. A disadvantage is that tubing may have to be bored out to allow larger diameter carbon rods to fit without reducing the diameter of the rod by sanding. 1/16" brass tubing may be easily bored to .038" by turning the drill slowly (in a drill press) and holding the tubing with common pliers and cleaning the fileings frequently. Fast turning drills bind quickly and break frequently. Phil Pearson RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. Send "subscribe" and "unsubscribe" requests to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[RCSE] Unit Conversion
For those of you interested in converting units of measurement, such as converting Karlton's metric numbers; there's a great program available. It's Freeware and available on the web! Check it out at: http://www.joshmadison.com/software/convert/ Great little program. Plus, it can be customized. You can add additional units. For example, it doesn't list decimeters squared. So, I added a conversion for decimeters to square feet. Easy. BTW, I figured that 1 square foot of area equals 9.29 square decimeters. Could someone please confirm this number. [RCSE] RE: Slope racing information and questions.
These rules were adapted from the combat rules found on the DAW site, so I knew there would be some holes and questions, in regard to slope racing and the new classes Robert has some valid points and they are in need of review by all In section 3.1.3 Spar total cross section of 3/4 sq in was developed originally for the 48 inch foamies and may need to be increased for the 60 inch foamies. What this means is, if you cut the spar(s) cord wise, you would get no more than 3/4 sq inch of spar cross sectioned when all spars are added together. So if you have one spar that is made from 1/2" x 1/2" you would have 1/4 sq inch of spar cross section. Two of these spar would yield 1/2 sq in and so on. What is reasonable for the 60 inch class? Is this rule still valid for 48 inch class? In section 3.1.4 This wording was for control surfaces. Should this be extended to include all tail feathers and winglets. In section 3.1.5 The cross sectional area applies to the total of all longerons in the fuse. This total cross sectional area does not apply to wing or tail mounts so long as they are considered longerons. Again, do we need to increase this for the 60 inch class? Conventional Unlimited Class "These rules include the FAI maximum weight of 11.023 Pounds or Max wing loading of 24.57 oz/sqft for total projected area. Correct?" Are there FAI rules for 60 inch and unlimited class slope racing? Where can I find them? I believe they should apply, don't you? Jerry R. [RCSE] Re: Joe's vertical pull up
Has anyone ever timed Joe's vertical punch with a stopwatch? I timed the climbs shown on the infamous John Roe DS video tape. On those flights shown, WITH MINIMAL WIND, I believe the longest was 5.3 seconds (if memory serves). 5 seconds vertical on SINGLE DIGIT wind. Yeowza!! The DS phenomenon is unbelievable. Apparently it's common for Joe to reach what he himself calls "Scary speed". Scary! To Joe!! Unbelievable. I've heard rumors of some possible speed record attempts using DS. Along with some other hush, hush "secret" projects. When will the cat be let out of the bag? Bill Swingle [EMAIL PROTECTED] Pleasanton, CA RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News.
