[RCSE] FellowAtkinsDiet guys-OFF TOPIC Sort of :-)

1999-12-08 Thread GordySoar

(For those of you guys that are on :Please post me off line if you have
anything to add to my observations.)

For you sailplaners who have started the Atkins diet after seeing my reduced
airframe and have also lost that 30 to 50lbs this summer, here are some
observations I noticed after losing the weight and then continuing the eating
habits of steak, bacon, cheese, fish, butter, etc.

KEY point to weight loss after being on for almost a year. WATER, when I
stopped carrying a bottle, I stopped losing.

You will get to feeling 'funny' at various times as your metabolism goes thru
adaptions, First 6 weeks especially. Then at about 3months or so.

Don't pay any attention to your 'energy' that changes dramatically till up
to about 6 months. At that point you will feel better and have more 'energy'
than ever before.

You may not make it to your target weight ...without exercize. I haven' t
done any and I also haven't lost that last ten pounds I had been shooting for.

Water is key/critical. Even if you aren't thirsty.

Crystal light is great cold or hot. ALL the flavors!

Pay attention to the part where he talks about 'addiction' food. You may not
realize what it actually is, but in the end find out that you have been
derailed off diet.

If you see a cookie or piece of bread that looks s good, and really want
a piece, and considering you haven't had your alotment of carbs for the day,
DON"T TAKE A WHOLE PIECE. Just break off a small piece about a finger tip
full and put it in your mouth to test its "real flavor satifaction level" .
Usually you find that it was your minds romantic memory of what it might
taste like and in reality find that it taste pretty blah and not worth
ingesting. That trick kills a crave instantly.

If it turns out to taste just as sexy as you thought it would THEN have a
small portion, you can always have more. The point is.chose your poisons
carefully:-)

People will ask you about it or kid you about how its impossible to stay on
the diet and they are right. None of us are disciplined enough to stay on a
'diet'. but with Atkins it switches from a diet to a lifes habit after that 3
to 6 months. So when people say to me am I on the diet, I say no and yes.

I don't eat the things that have the killer carbs, and if I do I know its a
small count for the day.

Water is key.
now back to sanding those Zipper leading edges, the motel is gonna freak
about the dust :-)

[RCSE] Beginning F3j

1999-12-08 Thread John Ihlein

I would like to start flying some F3j. I am looking for a suitable plane to
start with, one that could also be used for AMA thermal duration. The two I
am looking at are the Hera (7035, vtail), and the Emerald (7037, cruciform
tail). Any comments on the pros and cons of these models? Any others I
should consider? I haven't flown or seen either of these models. Any
others I should consider? I tend to favor the 7035 airfoil and cruciform
tails (the molded Psyko is out of my price range). With what I currently
know, I would lean towards the Hera.

Thanks for any input,

John Ihlein

[RCSE] Sparrow killed by Victor

1999-12-08 Thread Raymond Wong

I meant a NSP Sparrow, had a mid air collision with a NSP Victor, the
Sparrow's wing was split into 2 halves. Surprisingly, the Victor had no
more damage than a little scratch. Later on, the same Victor split up a
balsa floater which belongs to a new pilot. The owner of the Victor
felt so bad he paid the rookie for a new plane. The Victor was grounded
by the owner for the rest of the day.
Wow, I should consider getting a molded wing plane myself.

The Hera is a high quality fine flying model. The only downside to it, is
that it is hard to come by. I am hoping that the manufactures will make more
available to the American market. The only thing holding the Hera back is the
long waiting time to receive it. Larry Jolly

Sapphire 2M

Very interesting! Just so everyone knows that similar things happen, When I designed
the Sapphire 2M, 2 years before Airtronics had
a Sapphire, the name was unused as far as I knew. The design was submitted to Model
Builder magazine for publication. For some
reason, it didn't get published even though the editor was a good friend of mine(the
publisher has control of what goes in, and
when).

Several years went by and the Airtronics plane came out. When MB went under, the
plance was returned to me. I submitted it to
Flying Models, who eventually printed it. When we went into production, we called Ed
Whyte who now owned the rights to the
Airtronics Sapphire, if it was OK to use the name. He said fine as long as we used
the '2M' behind it, and if someone was looking
for the unlimited Sapphire, that we directed the purchaser his way.

I now have a Sapphir 100" in the works. I'll change the name of both of my designs
when the 100 reaches production. I have a list
of names I like. It seems the longer I stay in this hobby, the fewer new names come
up. I was going to name my next model the
"Orion", but Sal beat me to it. No biggie, I'll just come up with something else.

On the FMA thing, Trick RC is a small company, 2 brothers and mom as I understand it.
FMA is a larger company. I know that some
sales that Trick would have gotten will now go to FMA. GP did a similar thing when
they copied Andy Clanceys' Bee series. GP has a
full engineering staff, I think Andy works out of his garage. The Slow Poke was a low
blow in my opinion. gv

[RCSE] Help! Foamcutter Details!

1999-12-08 Thread Scobie Puchtler or Sarah Felstiner

I am finally getting around to setting up my own weight driven foamcutter
system, and I would like opinions about a few key details. I don't mind
getting referred to online drawings and such, but I have seen most of them,
and am now looking more for multiple opinions and solutions to particular
details:

1. What kind of line are people running through their pulleys? What does
Feathercut use? What does Del recommend?

2. What are various folks' solution to how to attach the pull-line to the
cutting wire or bow? (It makes more sense to attach to the cutting wire for
my design, but I'd like to hear about both, if folks do both)

3. More specifically, what keeps the attachment point (of the pull-line to
the cutting wire) from slipping sideways when cutting a more highly tapered
wing planform? And if the attachment point can be made slip-free, then what
keeps the attachment point from bearing up against the side of the foam
block or template when cutting more extreme tapers? Or is this just not a
problem for some reason I don't yet understand?

Thanks, as usual, for insight and info.

Lift,
Scobie in Seattle

The price (of the item in YK's latest postings) might be good but the range
isn't. The idea of putting a camera and tx in a ship, especially a
