Re: [RCSE] Battery connector problem, Futaba 8U Transmitter
> In retrospect, the problem arose because I took the battery out of > the transmitter for charging I would highly recommend taking the battery out for charging. My 8uaf had a total battery meltdown while charging and it melted the case. It also erased the memory from the op system of the radio. Tower now handles all the futaba repair and they grossly misdiagnosed the problem as water damage and wanted about $180 to replace the main board. I picked the radio up from the repair dept. in person and it was in the same (non water damaged) condition as when I sent it in. I had been corresponding to one of their PR people and they stopped replying to my inquiries about the situation. (I was in their town at the time.) I ended up buying a new 8uafs locally for less than the repair cost and I will use the old radio for parts. It is a great radio, but I wouldn't count on anything from the service dept. [RCSE] Vacuum bagging Mylar
Has anyone had any experience using Mylar thinner than .014"? I would like to try using the thinner material in an attempt to better conform to tips and leading edges. The next two stock sizes seem to be 0.010" and 0.0075". I thought I might start with the 0.010". Any input would be greatly appreciated. Michael Melbourne, Australia ICQ 3481522 __ Do You Yahoo!? Re: [RCSE] Battery connector problem, Futaba 8U Transmitter
Happened in my x347 also. This is a common problem for any unit where you frequently connect and disconnect this type of connector. As designed and installed these connectors are made to be put together and left for a long time. For things that are put together and taken apart frequently you need a mechanical connection, not just a solder joint. The connection can be a solder joint but it will be much larger and also will not be the same joint that carries power or signal. Using epoxy or CA to glue the connector down before resoldering the leads is a very good way to solve the problem. These connections should be checked at least every year. michael N6CHV AMA 77292 Dennis Phelan wrote: > > Dudes, > This problem occurred in my JR 388 as well! RE: [RCSE] Futaba 8UAF Sudden Death Syndrome
The RF pin problem occurred with the first 8Uxx production runs. The later runs and the new 8UxxS have incorporated a fix that includes epoxy reinforcement of the pin to circuit board connection. If you are using an older 8U that has not had this fixed you should do it now before it starts causing crashes. Re: [RCSE] Futaba 8UAF Sudden Death Syndrome
My friend had a problem with his 8UAF & crashed an expensive scale glider because of it. The repairman told him that the pins that connect to the RF module came unsoldered from the circuit board inside the radio. Said it is a common problem. Resoldering the pins fixed the radio. Symptoms included loss of transmitting signal when pressure is applied to the RF module. Dudes, This problem occurred in my JR 388 as well! Intermittent, very difficult for me to detect, JR service found it for me.
