[RCSE] R/C Flight Simulators

2000-11-04 Thread Cam Alexander

We've had the first snowfall, and the soaring season is at an end for
another year. My numb thumbs did not improve much this season. Are any of
the simulators good enough that sim time translates to improvement in real
world flying? If so, which one is recommended as the superior glider
simulator, with emphasis on thermal flight?

Thanks for the bandwidth

[RCSE] dynamix F3b for sale

2000-11-04 Thread Jason Werner

I picked up a Dynamix this summer for a backup and find that I am not flying
it much. It is the "f3b" version which basiclly means that it has the
molded tip panels. The fuse and center section are the same as the F3j
version. It is a VERY nice flier, and to be honest, if I had fewer planes I
would fly it a bunch. I just have too many planes right now and with my
other projects it is gaining dust.

IT has one repaired ding in the center section leading edge. Caught a stake
on landing. No spar damage, and the repair is complete. I can do full
pedal launches with no problems (especially now that I have real servos in
it!).

HS-81s on the V tail.
MPX Micro 3BBs on the ailerons.
Multiplex Profi MC/V2 on the flap (single servo).

No rx or battery.

Wing "bags" from foam...work nice.

$600 + 1/2 shipping.

[RCSE] Futaba 8UAF low battery warning

2000-11-04 Thread Antonio Martinez

My 8UAF has begun giving false low battery status. Fully
charged packs give a low voltage reading, resulting in the
low battery alarm going off soon after turning the TX on. I
seem to recall seeing a thread about this some time ago, but
could not find it in the archives. Has anyone had or know
anything about this problem???

Will all my FM RX's (futaba and hitecs) work with it (as the

I think it's probably that 707 () airliner that they crashed for a fire

at 10.6 meter span (almost 35')
Towed to 1500' by a Pegasus tug by the way!

What is the biggest rc-glider built, and flown?.
Is there some kind of record? If so, how big?

Any ideas?

I was at a contest when my Futaba Super 7 got wet from rain. It was giving
me false low battery signal and would not let me change model. Took it
apart and dried it out. Still works fine.

Blow it out with compressed air. If that don't work, use a safe cleaner on
the power switch.

Re: [RCSE] DS'ing -- Achievement program

2000-11-04 Thread Keith

A small elite group of true combat pilots had a similar name back in the late 80's,
taken from the place we used to fly that looked over the bay inside of Newport Beach:

"Bad Boys of Back Bay"

We flew an unusual little 50" composite model called the "Air-Tic" (once it gets on
you it can't be shaken off)! It was designed and mostly built by Ed Resetar, who
works for Porsche now (he was part of the group that put out the new Carrera GT that
was just unveiled in Europe a few months ago). He would only build them for those he
felt were capable of and willing to fly them as aggressively as they could be flown,
which was very aggressively! The Air-Tic could also take quite a bit of punishment,
more so than any other design we flew against back then. We used to fly as a 4 or 5
man team and combat against other groups of guys flying various designs. We never
lost a combat as a team! And we flew "real" combat, where all hits had to be made
from a rear quarter, no "T-bones" or head-ons". It took a considerable amount of
skill to consistently be able to score hits, and forced everyone to really learn
energy management and aerial combat tactics similar to those employed by real fighter
pilots (lag and lead rolls, yo-yo's, scissor maneuvers, etc.). I've watched so many
of today's combat events and don't see any of that, just big furballs where everyone
seems to be more into enjoying the amount of damage wreaked from out of control
impacts than the deep satisfaction of a kill prosecuted with skill, cunning, and very
good aerobatic flying. And believe it or not, it actually draws quite a crowd when
two or more teams are flying in a defined area with judges and timers, etc.
Very similar rush to Man on Man slope racing!
