Home Depot! Metal Duct tape for air conditioning ducts. It's about 2 1/2" to 3" wide
(like duct tape) and I cut it into thin strips
the length of the Chord.

And you know, freehand actually does work ;)

[RCSE] R/C sailboat for sale or trade

2000-11-10 Thread Rcsoar4fun

I know some guys out there are sailing boats during the winter season, so
here goes. Its a Victor Wildcat, can be seen at www.victor-model.com. The
boat has been sailed only a handful of times. Its in good condition. I have
added wider beams to the boat. The paint job is not the best, the hulls are
all blue, but its not very shiny. The beams and mast are varnished. The
radio is a 2 channel Futaba Attack. The TX and RX need alkaline batteries.
The rudder servo is a Futaba standard. The winch is a modified standard
servo with a drum on top. It turns one way to "wind up" the sheets, other
way to let them out. The winch is completely enclosed. An arm type servo
requires the arm to hang out in the breeze. The sails are pretty much stock.
I have added some battens and a better vang. The boat is pretty fast,
enough to keep someone interested. The main reason I am getting rid of the
boat is because I would rather spend my time flying.

[RCSE] Jeti receivers ?

2000-11-10 Thread Stefan Smets

I just notices some receivers in a German magazine, brand Jeti, FM
7-channel, weight 14 grams, not too expensive (79DM) and the ad says it has
full reach (I don't know the English expression, in German it's "volle
Reichweite").
They are also marked "single conversion", while my Hitec 555 reveiver says
"dual conversion".
Can somebody explain me what exactly those single and double conversion
mean, and if there's a practical difference I should care about ?

Thanks,

Stefan.

Re: [RCSE] Advanced Airbrushing tutorial

2000-11-10 Thread Joedy Drulia

>I am still curious about the actual painting process...

James,

Thanks for bringing these questions up. You are very right. I have
unintentionally omitted much of the actual technical details regarding the
process. It is easy to over some issues when discussing a topic like this.
The irony of it is that I have only airbrushed mylars a total of three times
(not counting a few practice strokes on paper). You don't need to be worried
about not becoming proficient in a short amount of time!

Masking is another good point you make. I've only done it once on a v-tail
feather. I masked the tips, painted the inner panels, let the white paint
dry, masked over the whites using some post it notes pressed gently against
the painted mylars. I found I that pulled up a very small amount of the
white paint, but it did not ruin the paint job. The only thing that I wonder
about with masking is that when the airbrush is spraying, it can be very
forceful depending on the amount of air you select. This airforce might blow
the masking away.

I am sure that there is a simple solution to this, but painted mylars are a
unique application of airbrushing. You have to work from the back out.
Another words, the first layer of paint to hit the mylar is going to be the
outter most layer of paint when the wing is bagged and the mylars are
removed. You need to keep this in mind. Most artists will airbrush the
background colors onto things (t-shirts) and paint over that to make their
images. With mylars, this would be hard to do. You could try the reverse,
but like I showed on the web tutorial, blending colors by overlapping did
not have the intended effect that I wanted.

Of course, because I am a newbie as well, there are probably already
solutions to many of these issues.

One more point I'll make. You were wondering about the opaquiness with the
paints and if it was readily noticable. On my very thin v-tail feathers, the
bottoms are mylar'ed red, the tops have black, red and yellow. The black is
opaque and does not allow the light to bleed through. The red just looks a
little more red, but the yellow does look somewhat orange, buy only when
held up to the sun directly and looking at it only a few inches away. The
effect starts to disappear the further away you get. Also, I used pink foam,
which might have had and effect with the color play.

I will say this also. I don't personally have any molded ships, but I've
seen a lot of them. Most of them have great paint jobs. The FC wing bottom
was painted with Gloss Cherry Red from testors and it truly does look like a
molded paint job. I not exaggerating at all. By making sure that the paint
coverage was consistent, I did not get any light areas of paint coverage.
The top of the wing is nice, but the bottom is where all of my pride is.

Let me get back to the drawing board and work in some more details giving
the specifics. I'll announce when completed.

Re: [RCSE] Question?

2000-11-10 Thread Tom Watson

I was told by DJ Aerotech that the Monarch/Wizard series was discontinued
earlier this year in favor of the Spectre. Parts (wings, fuses, tails) will
still be made available separately, but no kits.

Sheldon's Hobbies may still have kits in stock; I bought one from them
several months ago and their index still lists them.

Re: [RCSE] carbon d light hlg

2000-11-10 Thread Adam Till

Hi Louis,

My experience with the Unlimited version of the sailplane has been alright.
As far as I know, the only difference between the 1.8m & 1.5m versions is an
added bit to the wing, so it should be academic for what I'm about to say. I
ordered mine from www.ecmc.com, but I got the cruisform version because it
was on sale. Don't do that - go v-tail. The airplane was looking to have to
have 2.5-3 oz of lead in the nose! I ended up making it an electric boosted
glider simply because that amount of lead puts this airplane out of the
competitive weight range (that was a bit of a disappointment to me). My
sailplane now flies well w/ S-400 & 7 600mah cells @ 19.4 oz, but I don't
consider the Carbon D-Lite it to be a very competitive hand launch. It
doesn't penetrate very well unballasted, but it does thermal happily in
calmer conditions.

Now if only my Encore would come sometime this year. Four months and
counting, not that it matters at all since we're under a layer of snow and
it's a balmy -14C.

Cheers,
Adam

[RCSE] Super Grand Esprit

Kirk,
You are certainly in the right town to find out what you need to know.
Contact George Joy (of TPG). He flew a Super in the first year of
Nostalgia competition at the LSF Nats 3 or 4 years ago. He elected to
put the thing up on a hi-start, seemed to take forever in our man on man
flight format. But, it did keep the wings at one with the fuselage.

[RCSE] RE: For Sale - Pico Jets, etc...

2000-11-10 Thread Nathan & Marni Woods

The Airtronics '141's are gone, the Pico Jets are still up for grabs. Had
plenty of offers for some of the parts, but I really don't want to part them
out. I think there's more value to the end user as a whole.
--
Original Post:

I have a NIB Combat Pico Jet with Multiplex Speed 480 motor for sale.

I also have a standard Pico Jet for sale. Flown twice, landed once,
repaired once. I fiberglassed the canopy nose back together. Still have
the original decal sheet for this one also (currently still undecorated).
Warning, this plane is perfectly flyable, but kinda ugly. It will look
better once its decorated with paint and stickers.

A new Combat Pico retails for $88 + Motor
A new Std. Pico sells retails for $79 including Motor.

I have an 8 cell 800AR mah pack, and two 7 cell 500AR mah packs, plus a
really nice Multiplex BEC controller. The RTF Std Pico has two micro servos
installed and included.

Add it up, and You get about $280 worth of equipment.

I'll sell it all, INCLUDING a Hitec Focus III AM transmitter and Receiver
for $175 plus shipping, or hand delivery to SoCal region (preferred). OR
BEST OFFER!
