Re: [RCSE] Bungee-monster question

Standard $12.00 archery release from a sporting goods place.
You make the tow hook extend back to the tail of the model and terminate in
a loop to grab with the release.

Subject: [RCSE] Bungee-monster question

As I'm pulling harder, further, and graduating to larger rubber (got
Hollyday's biggest now), its becoming increasingly difficult to keep a
grip on the plane's fuse for the pull and launch. I'm picturing some
sort of handle with a 'trigger' that connects to the tail of the plane.
What type of grip/release devices are folks out there using for
 bungee-monsters? Suggestions?

 No flutter yet,
 Richard

Re: [RCSE] Monster bungee safety

2000-12-29 Thread Bill Swingle

While I'm confident that Richard is proceeding safely, I want to post a
reminder to others considering bungee launching.

For average foamies or smaller, lighter conventional planes a standard bungee
is sufficient. With the average strength bungee safety is important. WEAR EYE
PROTECTION. Utilize some safe guard to prevent the stake from pulling loose
and becoming airborne.

For the monster bungees safety is beyond important. It's paramount. These
bungees really hurt. If some metal piece remains on the end of the rubber the
hurt increases by an order of magnitude or more. If you get hit in the face
or, heaven forbid, the eyes; it's even worse. You simply MUST wear EYE
PROTECTION. Additionally, your stake must have a redundant and/or idiot proof
method of attachment. The use of a release mechanism is a fantastically good
idea because it gets you out of the "line of fire" should mishap occur.

[RCSE] Midwest sloping,Mini Acacia first flight

2000-12-29 Thread Greg Smith

Hey all,

I got out today since we had 15-20 from the east so that works here pretty
well. There was some lake effect snow but it has been so long, I didn't let
that stop me. What's a little blizzard to a grounded slope flyer? 20 degrees
and blowing snow.

I flew the Mini Acacia I got from Tom at f3x.com for the first time. Quite a
rude thing to do to a plane, throwing it out in a blizzard, but it rocked! I
will definately need to make some ballast though, there was tons of lift and
I would love to hear it scream. Still, I got to do some close in passes
about 20 feet in front of me and tearing through a 90 degree bank turn, it
does sing!

The site overlooks Lake Michigan, sorta like a frozen Sunset Beach. 2
launches, about 30 minutes of flying and 2 nice landings. Those snow banks
are good for something!

Can't wait for my Prodij which should be here soon.

Maybe Mt Baldy, Indiana Saturday.

[RCSE] Where To: JR347/ Any Radio for repair

2000-12-29 Thread GordySoar
A great place to send your radios in general (especially JRs) Is

Galaxy Hobbies
1607 N. Richmond St
Appleton, Wisconsin 54911
920-730-9220

Wade (the owner) has been testing radios for years and has all the tools to do it right. I happened to have been in Wisconsin last week and had my Stylus modules checked out to make sure they were 'in spec'. With my frequent travels to others flying sites, I can't be too carefull about giving someone a 'cold' (crash) cuz of a sick TX. So like all of us should, I get mine checked each season, (along with getting my new AMA card).

He checked my stuff while I waited and even let me watch. We tested my TX with a couple of modules and even a couple of antenna options, just to see what affect they might have on signal purity and power. I was happy to see that nothing caused a change from being dead on the right signal.

Feel very secure in knowing that your radio sent to Wade will be checked thoroughly.

[RCSE] TWhipper TWhiz

2000-12-29 Thread Silas Collier

Well I got home early yesterday and had a hour to kill so I built a stock
Whipper Whiz. Flew it across my living room a few times and then just had
to start modifications.
Mod 1 - made a dihedral wing with elliptical tips.
Mod 2 - made a T-tail with matching elliptical tips.
Mod 3 - replaced putty with a T-pin.
Now my Whipper Whiz looks like a mini-hotliner.
It flies about the same as the stock one, but looks much cooler.
Distance - all the way across the living room.
Time - until it hits the wall.
I'll try to get it outdoors this weekend if the wind dies down and the
drizzle stops.

Have you thought about using an archery release.
There not too expensive. It should hold up to atleast 60-80lbs.

Richard, Got to an archery store and buy a bow release to use with the loop

I made a molded carbon Whipper Whiz with a removable 2 piece V-tail (for easy
transport) and 5 piece polyhedral variable camber, pseudo-elliptical, pylon
mounted, breakaway, water repellent, ozone friendly wing with the AG2001TA
airfoil (AG stands for antigravity, TA for thermal attracting) outfitted with
RES flaps and ailerons that were literally bristling with external RADS
linkages (for easy access). It flew THROUGH the wall and disappeared. I KNEW
I shouldn't have thrown away the molds, but I thought "who's gonna want one
of these if they can get them right away? Besides, if I have to make new
molds, I can charge more!". I'm going to stop the watch..now. The wife is
none too happy about the hole in the wall.

[RCSE] Pegasus page updates

2000-12-29 Thread John Derstine

Happy New year from EMM (Endless Mountain Models)
I have constructed a new easier to use comprehensive site on the Pegasus tow
plane. I am hoping I have the bugs all worked out! Featured are some new
photos, and an updated kit, and accessory page.
Also,
I am looking for any video footage of a Pegasus towing a sailplane either
from Elmira 2000 or somewhere else. Please contact me if you have a quality
shot and would like to share it.
enjoy,
