Re: [RCSE] 1st Slope Racer
Btw, if you ever want a glass fuse for it, the wing of your wood Renegade will actually fit the Fun-1 fuselage *better* then the wing of the Fun-1. Brett Erica and or Rob wrote: Hey now, I've recently made the same jump, so maybe I can help a bit. I was told "the plane" was the C.R. "fun one", so I ordered one. And as useual Charlie took forever to fill the order. While I was waiting a fellow soar-head put an older wood fuse "renegade" up for sale, the price was right so I bought it. So now I've got a brand new "fun one" waiting to be built and a "renegade" that I'm flying the snott out of. I'm lovin' this plane so fast, so smooth, soo cool. I'd recomend any race trainer that you can rebuild, if nothing else you'll need to relearn landings it takes a while to learn how to slow these things down. Try to find a wood/foam wing and not a mouldie. you prolly won't be able to repair a moulded wing, and you will break it at least once and it'd be nasty to spend bux and not be able to fix it. Re: [RCSE] DLG thoughts
Well, I suppose that's true of any technological advancement. Once everyone has it, equilibrium is reached and everyone goes back to where they were. as a sport HLG pilot though, it's a very cool development to have trickle down. I might not win (or even enter) any contests, but if I can catch a few more themals on a lazy Sunday afternoon, that's fine with me! Brett Jason Werner wrote: Sorry to poopo the DLG "revolution" but from a contest perspective it really has not done anything to tighten hte ranks.
Re: [RCSE] HongKong soaring photos
Thanks for the pictures Raymond. My girlfriend is from Central, but she only talks about the city, shopping, traffic, etc. She never mentioned the great views or slopes. I'll have to take a plane when I go to visit her parents, just don't tell her mom (she thinks it's ONLY a hobby for old, retired men). -Silas- - Original Message - From: Raymond To: soaring Sent: Sunday, April 15, 2001 10:08 PM Subject: [RCSE] HongKong soaring photos these photos were taken with my new Nikon Coolpix 990 digital camera. http://home.hkstar.com/~raywong/03-01/album.htm enjoy! [RCSE] fascinating flap research
For the aerodynamics heads out there here is some fascinating research from Stemme, the company that makes one of the more amazing motorgliders in the world. They are looking into reproducing the stall-mellowing effects of having self-actuated, top surface, partially porous flaps that mimick the effect of feathers on birds' wings to prevent stall separation from progressing forward on the top surface, well beyond the critical angle of attack: http://www.bionik.tu-berlin.de/user/giani/vortrag/sld002.htm The 'slide show' format of their presentation is very clear (be sure to read the text at the bottom of each page), and should do a great job of explaining this concept, so even if you're not an engineer, have a look! You'll very likely 'get' it. Enjoy watching these german experimenters in their efforts to preserve Lift, Scobie in Seattle RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. [RCSE] Finishing Obechi
I would like to finish a pair of obechi/foam wings with a clear finish. Having never done this before, I am seeking advice from the list. What is the process?? [RCSE] For Sale Airtronics Vision V8SP PCM receivers
This should be a good deal for any people who want to upgrade to a computer radio. The Vision has far more to offer than any of the low priced new radios. When it came out it set the standards for all of the radios which have been introduced since. At the low used price it is one of the best buys of any of the computer radios. This is the sail plane version with the 8 plane memory upgrade. It has been my primary transmitter. It has recently been checked out at Airtronics. It comes with two of the vision compatible PCM receivers. The transmitter is on channel 44. It comes with a spare battery pack and two standard wall chargers. The transmitter alone is $300 with RF module. The receivers are $50 each. The package deal is $375 including shipping. This combination has more programing capability than anything other than the top of the line radios from F, A, JR and Mpx. Seling because I upgraded to a Mpx P 4000 and don"t need the Vision. [RCSE] Wanted: Higgins F-20 specs
Aloha! Having seen the opening scene of the "Lift Ticket" video I now have a serious need for a similar plane. I understand that the Higgins F-20 is no longer being made and is pretty hard to find. My solution is to roll my own. I am planning on making a plug and mold and using epoxy-glass, Kevlar and carbon to build a very tough fuselage. The wings will probably be rg-14's sheeted in 1/32 ply with Kevlar hinges. Pretty much the same as the original Higgins plane. I have managed to sketch a pretty close copy just from viewing the video, but I would really love to find a 3 view or at least the important planform and dimension info from the original. If anyone can help I would be very appreciative! Mahalo Brian Courtice Maui Hawaii RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. [RCSE] A gaggle (not a flock!) of Jok'air assembly questions
Having finally come up with the funds to purchase a radio (Hitec Focus 3 AM w/ HS-300's), I have some (quite a few) questions concerning the assembly of the Jok'air. a) Which side do the servo arms face, and what functions (rudder, elevator) are assigned to each servo? b) What kind of servo force transfer mechanism should I use? (arm, disk, cross) c) The articulation cuts on the EPP rudder/elevator; are they made on the top of the elevator, and the right side of the rudder, or opposite? d) The arms attached to the control surfaces; are they attached on the top/bottom of the elevator, and the rudder arms; are they attached on right/left side of the rudder? e) The rubber bands; should they be doubled back, or should one "end" of the rubber band be doubled through the loop of the other end? f) On a related note, the wing rods; should they be bent a good bit, or is there supposed to be a bit of a gap between the rods and the leading edge? g) A high start hook; where and how should I attach this? Lastly, how the heck does this thing break down for travel? The webpage on NSP says "You can assemble and disassemble the Jok'air in 30 seconds!" I'm not altogether sure how to do this... It takes me at least a minute to get the fiberglass (carbon fiber?) wing rods into place.. Sorry about all the rather juvenile questions; I'm a complete newbie working with an iffy translation for an unconventional plane. [RCSE] Could we have a time out and end of this tirade?
Paul and you others, We have all, I think, now and then experienced a bad servo - a HS-60 comes to mind, and, no, I wasn't allowed to exchange it. But that is passed, forgotten, and a good lesson. Always test before doing anything to your servos (no, I didn't even cut off the lead). But please, Paul and you others, stop turning this list into a one-man battle against the rest of the world. It ain't that interesting. And both sides, stop baiting each other! Pick your fights elesewhere, please! There are 6 billion men and women out there, so a single disgrunted customer doesn't make much difference - that's the sad truth. Not nice to be that customer, but that life isn't always a song and dance is also part of growing up, to toughen and to learn. Enjoy the good times and forget the hardships! Not so long ago about 500 people, men, women and children, were burned alive by some devoted nuns, doing God's Gospel, as they thought. THAT is something to think about. A few lousy servos is not, unless they result in a crash costing thousands, or the health of others. Enjoy your loved ones and take care, Tord, Sweden PS Those nuns will soon face trials, together with some of their friends. Hope sincerely that they all will be consumed by the Eternal Fire in Hell. Dude...Like...She knows I just turned 28.
