Matt-- Check http://www.planes-wings-things.com/for all your tape needs. Paul offers nothing but the absolute best for our needs. Clear Mylar tape (3M?) was recommended to me for hinge tape. Can I get it locally, or is it a special order from a R/C supply house? Does the stuff have a specific trade name? What do you guys use? I'd really like to be able to pick some up locally, as I'll be ready to hinge tomorrow night. Secondarily, I want to put some reflective tape on the leading edge to increase visibility. Recommendations? straight shiny stuff, or the stuff with ridges that looks like hologram material; out of a toy store, or is theresome special tape I should use. Thanks, Matt
[RCSE] Wingeron plane w/ add-on mixer
I was wondering if I can use an aftermarket electronic mixer (like the one from Ohmark) for use in a Wigeron plane like the CR Turbo ST? Or is the mixer only for V-tails and flying wings? I've never flown one of these wingeron planes so I'm a little confused, but it would seem that the control surfaces would work the same in principal as a V-tail or flying wing. Thanks Peter

Re: [RCSE] Sources for Hinge tape, reflecting tape
Go to Home Depot or Lowes. You'll find hinging tape in huge (60') rolls for less than $4.00. It's the good tough stretchy stuff that the RC people sell for a buck a foot or so... I was privileged to be a witness for Jack on Saturday, but didn't make it back on Sunday. I haven't seen anything about John Schmoll reported here, and believe he deserves mention. John is a former AMA record holder for Class A thermal duration and always a contest force to be reckoned with. Maybe we get a little over elated about these 8 hour flights here in fly-over country, but it is quite a challenge owing to the scarcity of suitable sites and favorable weather/wind conditions, to say nothing of what everyone faces--the physical and mental test. Congratulations to all three of these guys. Better luck next time to the two who didn't make it, both came down after about 3 hours. Been there, done that, guystry about 7+ !!! RE: [RCSE] Wingeron plane w/ add-on mixer
I'm not familiar with this particular model, but I've flown and designed both wingeron and pitcheron slopers. If it's a wingeron plane where the wings act like ailerons, and there is still a separate elevator in back, you don't need a mixer at all. If it's a pitcheron plane where the wings must act like aileronsAND relative elevator all at once (the tail is usually fully fixed-no controls- on a pitcheron plane), then you DO need mix capacity. An ohmark mixerwill probably do the trick, though it would be nicer to have independent relative travel control over the elevator and aileron functions of the mix. A BAD THING!!! Don't EVER clean your antenna with WD 40, IT'S BAD THING! Use 3 in 1 oil! WD 40 is a degreaser not a lubricant! Also it evaporates! I don't agree with this - WD-40 *cleans* the antenna so the telescoping bits can make solid contact again. Putting 3-n-1 oil on an antenna is an invitation to dirt build-up and subsequent poor electrrical contact. I don't think the point of the WD-40 here is to *lubricate* the antenna, but to clean it and leave it relatively lubricant free. As far as WD-40 goes, in general: WD stands for Water Displacement. It's originally designed to push water out of mechanical components. It does have lubricant in it, but just a very little bit, serving more as a protectant to metal. The stuff that evaporates is a carrier, not the lubricant itself. The fact that it'll cut grease, loosen rusty bolts, remove adhesive 'goo', etc - all bonuses that make it a useful product. I'll get off my soapbox, but I do think people excessively malign a good product by expecting something different from it's designed purpose. RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News.
