[RCSE] Fresno area Soaring Club

2002-06-21 Thread David J. Schat

Trying to hook up a friend in the Fresno area... I sent him links to SVSS
and CVRC. Is there a group in Fresno proper?

[RCSE] Vendor Bashing ... sorta

2002-06-21 Thread tom43004

I had a very interesting experience with a mailorder vendor recently
and wanted to share...

Dymond Modelsports makes/imports a servo called the D-60 that is very
small, thin(.33",) and has good torque(24oz at 4.8v.) I put these in
a couple of DLGs and in the wingtips of my 6 servo Fusion. The
Fusion had a problem with one during a contest that made me go to a
backup ship and upon further inspection, I found that the servo had
travelled beyond it's mechanical stop somehow. I emailed Helmut at
Dymond and he asked that I ship it back to him for inspection. I
told him that I would gladly pay for repairs, since I felt that the
servo was electrically okay, but just needed a new case/output shaft
that had been damaged. Yesterday I received a new or very well
repaired servo in the mail with no bill.

Responsive customer service and a decent product... what is this
world coming to? Now I use their $29 Micro Peak charger to top off
all my NiMH Rx and Tx packs too... neat little charger!

http://www.rc-dymond.com is their site... mostly electric stuff.

[RCSE] Looking for Images

2002-06-21 Thread Bill Kuhl

Working on a Power Point presentation on the hobby of RC Sailplanes to be
put in public domain, there are some pictures I do not have access to, that
I was hoping someone might donate. When complete I will put the project on
the Internet for anyone to download. It should be great for anyone giving a
presentation of the hobby to a group.

The emphasis will be on what a fun and educational hobby this is. A similiar
type presentation can be seen at http://www.luminet.net/~bkuhl/sld001.htm.

Pictures I am looking for:

slope racing
EPP training glider
fiberglass molds
sailplanes from many years ago
high start launch

Thank you,

Bill Kuhl

[RCSE] Re: Cheapest plane

2002-06-21 Thread Bill Swingle

HEY, are you slamin' my Walmart foamie??!! Dude!

Seriously, it's turned out to be a good plane. Honest, it slopes well. I
didn't expect it to but it's doing great. Even the masking tape hinges are
holding up well.

Plus, every time I take it to the slope, the wind blows. Really, I want to
try the plane in light lift conditions. But, so far I have not been able to
fly it in less than 10mph winds because the wind blows every time I take the
silly thing.

Best 4 dollars I've ever spent.

[RCSE] Thanks for DLG Launch Help

2002-06-21 Thread Bill Kuhl

Thanks for all the advice I received on doing the discus launch. My problem
was how I wrapped my fingers around the launching peg. Now, I just bend my
fingers 90 degrees and the plane releases straight everytime. Before I was
hooking around the peg, thinking I could straighten my fingers just before
release. The difference is amazing, at least twice the altitude, sometimes I
would think even higher.
