2004-01-29 Thread Alan Jones
Possible lower cost option. Try Sun & Ski Sports or other sporting goods
store for a bag meant for skis. They look really nice, have padding inside,
shoulder straps, and some have accessory pockets. Start around $49.00. I
have my 126" Houston Hawk wings in one now.Comparable wing bags start
around $150.00.

(This was a tip from Jack H.)

Little known Wing Bag Hazard. Another thing and I know it sounds silly but
it is true. When you take your wings out of your wing bag you can damage
some servos by the static electricity discharge as you draw the wings out of
the bag.

Re: [RCSE] Neda Wingbag

2004-01-29 Thread Jim Bacus
Clear bubble wrap is about the worst thing you could build a wing bag out of...

Left in the sunlight with the wing inside, outside or even in your car, the
little bubbles act like magnifying glasses and quickly deform the wing
under heat and melt the bag to the wing.

I know someone that this happened to... a terrible loss of a molded wing.

Don't do it,
Jim

[RCSE] NEW way to cap spars.

2004-01-29 Thread Harley Michaelis

In wings intended for bagging, I've long filled
over and under wrapped spars with balsa and spackle. I was never totally
happy with the looks or the strength of the bond between these and the main
layup.

Recently, I stumbled into a better way that really
bonds the layup well over and under the spar.

Here is the gist of the thing:

Quick epoxy, heated to be very thin, is applied in
the recess a few inches at a time. A waxed Mylar strip is quickly rolled
over the epoxy to level it out. When cured enough, the Mylar peels off. The
recess is progressively filled in this manner. When all is well-cured, the epoxy
is scraped with a razor blade to level out any irregularities and to remove
the wax on it. The bagging epoxy will then bond very tenaciously along the
spar.

A page on this with several pix has been added to
the GENIE CD.
I'd be glad to e-mail it on request. Ask for File
3, page 13.
