Re: [RCSE] New Orleans and EAGLE CO flying ??
There's not a whole lot of slope options in New Orleans. There is only one die hard glider flyer in New Orleans. You should be able to amuse yourself very easily with Mardi Gras celebrations which should be getting underway on those dates. Here is a parade schedule. http://www.mardigrasneworleans.com/schedule.html You would likely be interested in those on the traditional UPTOWN route. Check in with the front desk of the hotel to locate a decent place to watch the parades. A nice place to catch the afternoon/daylight parades is along St. Charles Ave. Never underestimate the importance of safety and common sense in New Orleans. Enjoy, Lee Estingoy formerly of New Orleans, actually going there this weekend. Re: [RCSE] Multiplex accessories in US
I can order most MPX stuff in quantity, but I need more than one person who wants something (or if you want a couple dozen it's cool too). Things will improve in a year or so. [RCSE] Graupner Cirrus Needs
Hi Folks.. I have a Graupner Cirrus that I want to refurbish, and there is a few things I'm looking for. First, I am hoping someone has a set of plans and instructions that I could get a copy of. Of course, I'm willing to pay for any copying and shipping costs. The version I have is the one with the larger balanced rudder. I am also looking for a canopy. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Steve Ball
[RCSE] For Sale
I've got a couple of tremendous bargains for someone. First item: 100 yard roll of half ounce carbon fiber mat. The roll is 38 wide by 300 feet long. The retail price of this material is $9 per square yard and I paid $5 per square yard six years ago. I'll sell it for $1 per running yard ($0.95 per square yard). I'm only interested in selling the entire roll as it's not worth cutting with multiple shipping at this price. Second item: 99 yard roll of 2.2 ounce fiberglass. This is plain weave cloth which has been properly sized for resin adhesion. The roll is 40 wide by 297 feet long. I bought this roll three years ago intending to make composite stabs for the Addiction and Compulsion. At about that time, light weight stabs became popular so my lay-up changed to a lighter 1.4 ounce cloth. However, this fiberglass is very suitable for most glider applications including DLHLG wings, fuselage lay-ups, etc. I paid $2.50 per square yard and will sell the fiberglass for $1 per running yard ($0.90 per square yard). Again, I'm only interested in selling the entire roll as it's not worth cutting with multiple shipping at this price. The buyer will pay the actual cost of shipping for either of these items. If you're interested in either, please ping me ASAP as I'll be packing the items for storage in the next week. [RCSE] Can a bagged wing be covered with film
I have a bagged wing that I bought several years ago than I need to finish. I had orginally intended to paint the ship, but circumstances now dictate otherwise. I have it primed and no longer have access to painting equipment other than cans. I just can't imagine painting an open class ship with cans, so I'm wondering if I could cover it with "film" i.e. oracote or some other low temp covering. If filming is possible what do I need to consider? How much heat will melt the foam? Any experience will be helpful to me. TIA Stan
Re: [RCSE] Can a bagged wing be covered with film
I did this once, with mixed results...covered a carbon Renegade wing with Ultracote Plus. This was the self adhesive stuff that doesn't require much, if any heat. The results were quite good...until the first really hot Southern California day on the slopes a few months later. At that point, the covering totally bubbled all over the place and looked terrible. I ended up stripping off the covering and just painted the thing. Getting the old adhesive off was also a huge pain, btw (though I didn't know about Goo Gone at the time). I'd just paint it..even with cans. At 09:57 PM 2/3/04 -0600, Stan Myers wrote: I have it primed and no longer have access to painting equipment other than cans. [RCSE] Invitation to SWSA's Hey Man, This Ain't Phoenix! Contest
Here comes the first full weekend of February and there go a bunch of glider guiders heading to Arizona. The SWSA group's regular monthly contest was supposed to be this weekend but was moved back a week so we could all go to the SWC and get back home to fly the club event. Well, for some reason most of us opted not to head east so we have decided to put on the Hey Man, This Ain't Phoenix! contest this Sunday, February 8th at the SWSA field in Covina, CA. All AMA fliers are hereby invited to this one-time event. The details are: Sign ups: 8:30 Pilot's Meeting: 9:00 Task: Three flight, 21 Minute Add'em Up, no maximum time Landing: Standard 100 point tape Awards: None Food: Free BBQ hot dogs, chips and soda for everyone The unusual twist to this event is that the field will also be open to fun fliers throughout the event. Oh yeah, there won't be any entry fee either. You will get your picture taken so please be presentable. Dan It's hard to be a turkey when you soar with the eagles.
