Other than Hobbico, who makes the small monitor with the four or five LED's
that light up depending on the voltage of your airborne battery?
Thanks

[RCSE] Magnum 12 For Sale

2004-04-06 Thread jtlsf5
Too many Nostalgia planes, too little time. Soarcraft Magnum 12, ready to fly with
your receiver. This big, magnificent plane was built only last year, so it is ready
to go,not old and tired. The magnum 12 has a 144 span, is a T-tail, has unique gated
blade spoilers, and looks really nice in the air. Some mods I made for modern day:
pull-pull rudder; case hardened Squires type main joiner rod; carbon capped spars
throughout; and direct drive spoilers with separate micro-servos.

Included is the plane, 2 micro spoiler servos (Airtronics 501), 2 mini servos
(Airtronics 831), battery and switch. I would prefer local pickup in
Sacramento, or I could bring it to the Bent Wing in Visalia. I will ship for
actual cost, but this big a plane will not be real cheap to ship.

$450 plus shipping

[RCSE] New battery Technology

2004-04-06 Thread Lex Mierop
NEC has developed a technology that promises 30 second charge times and
equally high discharge rates.
Capacity is similar to current NMH technology.

Is this going to shake up our hobby or what???

[RCSE] Toledo 2004

2004-04-06 Thread Tom Kallevang
I must echo the sentiments already expressed by others ... this year's
Toledo Expo was a great time.

To be immersed in everything R/C for three days, great! I only wish I
had had more opportunity to walk around and ogle all the neat stuff.
Can you believe it, I didn't buy one darned thing all weekend!

True, for a glider bum there isn't a lot to be seen, but look at the
big TOC type acro ships and you see the same molding techniques in use
there as in our TD moldies ... and at quite a bit bigger size.
Gorgeous paint schemes on every one of them.

Electrics ... the glow engine manufacturers should be reading the
writing on the wall ... if you have noise issues, the electric wave may
be your salvation. Li-poly batteries that are taking more and more
abuse the way Ni-Cad and NiMh do today, and the price is coming down
all the time. Giant scale and gas motors are strong, too.

It was great to see so many LSF members over the weekend ... we were
able to update the database for many members coming back from years of
inactivity or other pursuits. Seeing old friends, making new friends,
that's what the hobby is all about, and Toledo is a great place to do
it.

Be sure to carve out some time next year for the 51st annual Toledo
Show.

RE: [RCSE] New battery Technology

2004-04-06 Thread Hall, Stuart A
Is Nickel-Hydrogen the same thing as Nickel-Metal Hydride? Or are we talking some
other kind of battery? This looks really cool! I have been bemoaning the fact I
bought into NiMH one year too early and didn't wait for LiPoly. Now I may not have to
worry!

I dunno. I would guess he participates in either Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu or mixed martial arts, or both, by his handle.

Maybe check out the posters on the "fight boards"

[RCSE] SB-XC cross country sailplane for sale

2004-04-06 Thread Soareyes

I have a NIB SB-XC I would like to sell. It is the T-tail version andcomes in the very nice custom wooden storage/travelbox that DeanGradwellmade for these kits. The kit is complete asnew, and has no construction done.Due to the size and weight I don't want to ship the plane so, for now, I'll limit it to buyers who can pick up the plane in Southern California (Victorville, or a convenient meeting place).I can also bring it with me to the Visalia aerotow event in two weeks. I'masking $1100. Contact me by email if you have any questions!
Heres a link to the RnR SB-XC web page:

Re: [RCSE] New battery Technology

2004-04-06 Thread Bill Swingle
Let's hold on to a bit of skepticism. Charging in 30 seconds will take quite a bit of
current and will require an even better charger to do it correctly.

Remember the LiPoly thread? The LiPoly's have caused a few fires and gotten pilots
understandably concerned. Anything that can handle the quoted high charge rates and
dis-charge rates will be capable of even more exciting failures.
