[RCSE] Epoxy-Cabosil Advice

2004-04-30 Thread Tommy
Every now and then when mixing a batch of epoxy and cabosil for
structural model building, it doesn't always cure hard as a rock.
It ends up kinda rubbery for a few days. I'm using Hanger 9 30-
minute epoxy and West Systems Cabosil. Using an accurate postal
scale, the normal amount mixed is 3 grams of part A and 3 grams of
part B. It gets mixed for 3-4 minutes before adding the Cabosil
then mixed for 3 minutes more. Sometimes the mixture cures hard in
one hour and sometimes it is still rubbery after 2 days. Only
enough Cabosil is added to make the slurry the same consistancy of
toothpaste.

Any ideas for the rubbery result? Any suggestions for a more
consistant epoxy?

RE: [RCSE] Epoxy-Cabosil Advice

2004-04-30 Thread John Derstine
You have to use a quality epoxy to get consistent results.
Cheap hobby epoxies have lots of volume filler added to make the mix
ratio 1:1. Use West Systems, Fiberlay Pro-glas, or another 4:1 or 5:1
resin/hardener system.

Is the epoxy supposed to be 50-50 mix by weight,. or by volume? Makes a
difference.

Garland-
The owner of that plane would be Jason George.
Or, as I should say, ex-plane.
He was the one who dances with trees, and ended up totaling
it at the SWSC.
I believe the paint scheme is laid up in the mold during
assembly.
Not sure if Jason is listening on this list or not.
Here's a pic of his sad Walk of Shame coming back with the
trashed plane...

I've seen this model (Sage product?) for a few years at the
Southwest
Classic in Phoenix each February. I'd like to know the
striping paint type
and application method (paint brush?). I'm about to put
striping on Genie
wing tips and I want that same paint brush look.

Would the owner of this model please contact me or respond
to the list.
Maybe there are others that would like to know your method.

[RCSE] Scale Soaring Medal Results page

2004-04-30 Thread johnders
I just published a page in Excel providing the results for
the Scale Soaring Gold Medal Program. So far I have results
for Visalia Scale Meet, I will be adding Los Banos and the
Muncie Aerotow as soon as I get them.
I have made catagories for type of sailplane flown, I don't
expect to have this information provided by default. If you
flew in any of these events, medaled, and would like the
type of scale sailplane you flew and its size listed, email
me. I may add some interactive features and macros later as
time permits.
In theory one could sort records by event, pilot, or any
other parameter. These are not functional at this time.

WTB Stabs to fit Hera -anything! ...was [RCSE] Hera Cross-Tail Stabs

2004-04-30 Thread Bluecavu
Somebody somewhere has got to have some old horizontals that will fit a Hera Cross-Tail... I'll take anything I can find. Does anyone know if the Artemis, Nyx or any other horizontal stabs might fit? I'm assuming they would as the fuselages are similar. Get rid of your old unused parts and make a few bucks!

I'm willing to do some modification -if it'll keep me from having to build some from scratch...

Thanks All!

Re: [RCSE] gluing servos instead of screwing them

2004-04-30 Thread Joshua

I first paint a thin coat of epoxy onto the surface to which I am
gluing the servo. Prevents damage if/when you remove the servo.
Let the epoxy cure completely.
Then I glue it in with a dab of household goop (if there is no foam
nearby) or silicone sealant (if there is foam nearby). Goop melts
most foam.
To remove - pry it out slowly and cut the glue with a knife as you
go.
I use 3m 4011 double-sided tape. I used 4010 for a while but the 4011
is more weather resistant, stickier, and a little stiffer.

4011:

I stick it to the servo then cut it to size to keep sand from
accumulating.

2004-04-30 Thread George Voss

Get a set of stabs from Ed White. They are MUCH lighter than your Hera
stabs and the price is right. With
his stabs youll lose as much as 6 ounces over all, depending on the weight of
the original stabs and the moment arm.
